Thank you for this!I bought my very first pet tarantula (one of the pinktoes featured in this documentary) and I have to say, I wasnt a big spider person before, but I have immense respect and admiration for these creatures now after observing her. I grew curious about her counterparts in the world though so that's when I went looking and found this documentary. Awesome creatures we so easily dismiss or take for granted.
my pleasure!… i’m glad you’re enjoying these beautiful creatures and this documentary… it’s all about awareness and knowing the facts on these venomous invertebrates.
If u look closely at the painting of the t eating the bird, the t actually has pink toes, so what the painter saw in Suriname was actually a pink toe, not a Goliath. And thank you for posting this, this documentary was one of my favorite things to watch as a kid.
Having a pink toe as a pet I recognized that right away, everything about it matches a pink toes even the size and from what I know of them in the wild they can do eat small birds. Irony is that pink toes are one of the most docile and nicest species of tarantulas.
Daya Autum I'm getting into the hobby of keeping ts and as of now I have a 3 inch Theraphosa stirmi and a 4 inch Brachypelma hamorii and I'm kind of embarrassed to say I don't have a pink toe. 😩
Those are very nice terrestrial breeds to have and the burgundy can grow freaking huge and be quite the show stopper and the Hamorii is also quite gentle. Avicularia Avicularia or common pink toes are pretty common, and cheap. They along with the Chiliian Rosea are the two most common sold in pet stored displacing the Brachypelma Smithi. There are two major issues with the Pink Toes I will let you in on, one is the ventilation + humidity requirements and a tall narrow enclosure instead of a wide and low one due to it being aboreal. The other one is that it takes time and patience when handling them. They won't bite, but they will run and jump. The mistake most people make with them is they scare the bejeezus out them, that and you need to kind of let them do their thing and not coral them too much or they will feel bullied. It's kind of like befriending a really shy and skittish cat. The advantage is that being aboreal they don't go splat so easily and once they get to know you are the most gentle things imaginable.
Daya Autum Yea I also heard that they can spray their poop at you if they feel threatened. But from what I hear avicularia avicularia and avicularia metallica would make a great first arboreal t :)
Yes the dreaded poop cannon XD. I only saw it in action once, and let me tell you they are spot on for accuracy and it's not a spray but a fine stream that can go 3 feet or more in a most impressive display. If treated well you shouldn't have it shoot at you, mine hit a loud beetle that had come into the room while my T was out. I still do not know how it managed to detect the beetle with such accuracy or if it was pure luck as they can not see well and are deaf, I can only tell you that despite all that they seem to be quite the sharp shooters with their poop. Avicularia Metalica I have heard are also nice, but not all T's in the pink toe family are so beware. Avicularia Avicularia are the nicest of the bunch from what I have read and mine is easy to deal with, just be very gentle and not too pushy. Mine gets a bit irritated (watch the abdomen for this species, that's the earliest sign) when you go hand over hand and wants to be able to go where it may, so safety permitting, give it what freedom of choice as to where it can go as you can, and provided it isn't terrified it shouldn't freak out or jump much. Or at least that has been my experience with mine.
I have seen the spider which they said to have found recently in Argentina here in Brazil, in the moutain forest near Diamantina. Also, as they said, there are many yet to be found. I have found one whose color I have not yet detected. It was orange in some parts. Thank you.
A Tarantula bite is no worse for you than a bee sting? Yeah mate. You telling me that it can kill a fully grown Elephant but it's not dangerous to humans? In what universe?
The venom from some new worlds may be equivalent to a bee sting but that's definitely not true of all. The venom from old world is much worse. If you got bit by something like a poecilotheria metallica you could still be getting pain etc weeks and sometimes even months later
Gotta feel sorry for the poor spiders who got transferred to different countries. Imagine it: You're just hanging out on your banana bunch, and the next thing you know, you're somewhere completely new, which feel totally different and the first thing you see that might be able to tell you where you are smacks you with a broom.
45:1: A Brachypelma Emilia female in all her splendor... But there are even prettier ones, like the Cryocosmus species from South America. Thet glow in wonderful striped patterns..
I have two tarantulas Mitzy and Bitzy Mitzy is a Brachypelma Boehmei (Mexican fire leg) Bitzy is an Acanthoscurria Geniculata (Giant Brazilian white knee) I am not totally wierd, I also have my baby , a jack Russel Terrier named Jake! :)
here us a list of common layman terms for different varieties of arthropods that i made for no reason. butterfly beetle ladybug lobster firefly centipede aphid millipede wasp bee ant fly mosquito hornet sawfly spider crab tarantula scorpion tick cockroach shrimp mite mantis termite dragonfly silverfish earwig flea louse moth caddisfly lacewing grasshopper cricket krill barnacle caterpillar silkworm crayfish dobsonfly locust damselfly weta antlion scorpionfly camel spider crane fly vinagaroon whip spider horseshoe crab sea spider I dare you to do one for chordates.
10:18 I disagree. try an OBT(Orange Baboon Tarantula) bite or a Peocilotheria, or arboreal "oramental" bite. They will give you pain 100x worse than any bee sting -- you will wish that you were stung by 10 bees instead lol.
this is what a doc should be, no over dramatisation or hollywoody effects
Ni dinosaur sound effects

So just like with humans.
2 minutes to 2 hours right?
Took me 30 years u til I started watching tarantula videos on Instagram, now these are some of my favourite animals ever.
It's great to watch this again after more than ten years.

The film camera:…. I’ve seen things man… 🤣
I feel sorry for the snakes.

Yeah mate. You telling me that it can kill a fully grown Elephant but it's not dangerous to humans?
In what universe?
A King Cobra's bite can kill an adult elephant
In this universe no one has ever died their venom is not strong enough to kill you
Fascinating yes, though I get the heebie-jeebies rather quickly.
30:16 Knife Party - Centipende (intro voice)
the sun tiger is so cute

im surprised that there weren't any scorpion vs tarantula fights in this doc. good doc though
This documentary is my childhood
none of the centipedes could be a match aganst a jumping spider
This documentary was my childhood:3
BTW, 12:01 Has it been confirmed yet what species of spider is this? I never knew…
Back when discovery channel was the OG
16:40 right in the middle might be some fairies.. Haha.
May the best man win.
A spider taking down a snake?
*raywilliamjohnson screaming JESUS MAN*
" ...this Centipede is a predator." **beat drops**

I was wondering if you would like to watch a youtuber he likes to take care of lots of tarantulas and also feed them
is the spider named milo?
Highly recommend this if you've not seen it, even if you're well versed in information on Arachnids...
And this is why I check my bananas before buying... o.o
Watching this documentary so when I play Animal Crossing I understand the enemy.
Spider at 45:11 Is the Aphonopelma Bicoloratum , I have one of my own , very gentle specie !

its not the spiders fault for hanging out there in the first place its part of their habitat.

+Ujuani68 That is NOT a B. emilia Mate!! It´s an A. bicoloratum. Gorgeous as well indeed.
Could have fooled me, as it resembles a Brachypelma smithi.
Tarantulas are big types of spiders
The chicken is insaner than the tarantula

How the hell did it not seance that
Giant Tropical Centipede Share There Territories With Tarantulas
I have two tarantulas Mitzy and Bitzy

You been bit by both these particular spiders?
I’ve heard that about OBTs as well…maybe if Old World spiders were in this doc, he would have mentioned it
