    With the amount of gasoline cars on the road today, It'll be nearly impossible to fully get rid of the combustion engine powered cars. I believe that Porsche is doing it 100% correct with synthetic fuels through a company in Chile that they invested heavily in. I think they have the right idea rather than pushing a new technology that is nowhere near where it needs to be to be fully adopted by everyone. Other countries are offering huge incentives for electric cars that work for them, so I feel like to win people over to buy them, they have to be affordable, have comparable range to gasoline cars, and have a lot of charging stations. I will never buy one even if they are discounted by 50%, I really truly stand with Porsche and what they are doing with synthetic fuels.

    The thing in europe where 15 yo cars cant be fixed, only applies if the car is damaged and the repair cost is higher than the value of the car, anyway i dont think they are going forward with that because, as you said, most people don t have money for newer cars and thats why our "parking lot" is so old. Also they wanna do that based on germanys, france, belgium, etc (northern europe countries) economy, wich is very different from like my own country (Portugal), spain, italy, etc (southern europe), where most people can barely afford to live right now.

That is not a successful business plan (see Porsche Taycan). EV’s will not hook with mass consumers (only suburbanites who can charge them) until there is a high spec $40k one that can go 400 miles in -20F.

    The most important thing in the electric car segment is having the fastest charging times and the biggest range because technology is not quite there yet so beeing the best at it is very significant. If your company is the best at it you will almost for sure be the one who sells most. I would say that having the fastest charging times ends up beeing the most important thing nowadays. This of course after having a certain range which i think some cars already have. So lets say your car has a range of at least 500km even in highway and you can charge your car fully in 5 mins or less that means more to people then having 1000km of range but taking 30min to charge. Long charging times also gives anxiety! Because with long charging times you have to plan your life always ahead so its a extra worry and people want their cars to be a solution in their daily lifes not another thing to worry about at least no more than it is a combustion engine car. Also unexpected needs to travel happen in life so you cant plan always ahead but if you can charge your car fully in 5 mins or less than unexpected travels are not much of a problem at least not in most cases. Also sometimes you might not realize you have only a certain amount of range left then you notice it and you realize you will have to wait 30mins more or less to solve the situation that can be a issue when it happens or simply you become anxious about it and no one likes that. So faster charging times means more nowadays than having a huge range. Also saying you can charge the batterie fully in a certain amount of time is different than saying you can charge 80% of the batterie in a certain amount of time even if you end up having the same range because people have the mindset of using combustion engine cars and in a combustion engine car add a small amount of range or add full range is always very quick so its not a worry.
    The electric car beeing the successor to the combustion engine car has to be better in everyway otherwise is not much of a successor is more like a down grade even if it is only worse in a single aspect but that aspect is significant then is a down grade. Or at least thats what most people think!

    in the USA our electrical grid is falling apart. there is no way we can have everyone driving electric anytime soon.

    • @craigcampbell1843
      @craigcampbell1843 3 месяца назад +4

      That’s not true. The grid is constantly being improved. Especially now that Biden passed the largest infrastructure bill in history. We are already producing a lot of the electricity we would need to charge EVs. It’s powering gas stations and oil refineries, and gas stations and oil refineries run 24 hours a day whether you’re using them or not. Most EVs charge overnight when there is no strain on the grid. They can even charge from solar panels and other batteries without taking any power from the grid at all.

    • @Busterburg
      @Busterburg 3 месяца назад +2

      Have you looked at the amount of power it takes to charge a car vs a house? Cars are a huge drain on the grid.

    • @craigcampbell1843
      @craigcampbell1843 3 месяца назад +1

      @@Busterburg so if I have solar panels, how much power am I pulling from the grid every time I charge my EV? And how much energy are you responsible for draining from the grid if you drive a gas car that relies on gas stations and oil refineries running 24 hours a day to get it’s fuel? Even if I charge from the grid I am only using power while my car is actually refueling. Not 24 hours a day like your car’s fueling infrastructure.

    • @Busterburg
      @Busterburg 3 месяца назад +1

      @@craigcampbell1843 the pull would depend on the storage you have or if you are just selling it back. It would depend on how far you drive and even the type of electric vehicle. The power grid is fully capable of handling gas production as has been for years.

    • @craigcampbell1843
      @craigcampbell1843 3 месяца назад +4

      @@Busterburg I think you’re missing the point. People said the grid couldn’t handle it when we started installing air conditioning in our houses too but here we are. The grid is always being improved. Gas cars will always need oil fields and gas stations and refineries but there are many different ways to produce electricity. Some can even be done at home and don’t rely on the grid at all. Everyone will eventually have solar panels on their house. They’re already required to come on all new houses built in California. Over 90% of EVs charge overnight when there’s no strain on the grid. The rest use fast chargers and are only drawing power from the grid for 20-30 minutes once or twice a week. Not 24 hours a day 7 days a week like the gas car. Plus as we buy more EVs and fewer gas cars, some of the electricity we’re using right now to power oil fields and refineries and gas stations 24 hours a day can go to charging our cars instead.

    The market priced Rivian probably way too high a few months ago. I was around 22-23 dollar a share. The main issue is - just like you said - they are losing money on every single car, gross margins doesn't matter when your operational costs are so high. Rivian has managed to do something NO OTHER manufacturer has ever done in such a short amount of time. It is just cool to own a Rivian. Everyone knows what it is, almost everyone. People - who do not know what it is - will stop you and ask you what it is. Tesla isn't cool anymore, not the way it was a few years ago. Tesla is the obvious choice if you wanna go electric. Porsche is probably the closest thing to Rivian when we talk about electric vehicles. I know Lucid is nice, but not Rivian nice, it is cool, but nothing amazing. I have started buying Rivian at $11.11 (my wife's lucky number) and added all the way to low 10s, when I stopped to see if it dips below $10, because I felt like if it does, we will go lower, maybe 5-12% lower and wanted to wait and see. It is back to above $11 already. I believe the R2 will be a hit, regardless of the actual design, range ... etc. Also, Alejandro, you forgot to mention that Rivian has a deal with Tesla (or kinda) and they will be able to use their chargers. That is a game changer. Rivian isn't going anywhere, even if they will post another bad quarter or two ... well, they will be acquired by someone big, like really big. There will be some pressure from shareholders if that happens, but I believe management has other plans. I really wanna see the R2, and know the preorder numbers as soon as they will become available, the share price will react. At this point I am happy with my average of mid 10s, (keep in mind, I only own 5k shares - as of writing) and I expect at least a 50% return on my investment this year, preferable before 1st of September.

Although CARB will make it more difficult in the future to own an ICE car they cannot ban it. Which is why synthetic fuels will be the future since there will still be new ICE cars sold until 2035 and will continue to run for decades after legislation for EVs.

Why would anyone choose a car that needs oil changes and smog checks and tuneups and special trips to the gas station when they could just plug in when they get home or when they get to the grocery store or the restaurant they’re eating at that night and never have to deal with any of those inconveniences? A hybrid is just a gas car with an extended range and twice the things that can go wrong. Good marketing but any more than 250 miles of range and you’re just being duped into paying for something you’re never going to use. Even on a road trip. I have never driven 5 hours straight without someone needing to stop to eat or use the bathroom and I take a lot of road trips.

Also; people start to see that charging is complex in big towns and the density of population is often very high. Charging is complex in high density areas.

What I will do is keep an eye out on Rivon stock so I can purchase more shares. People need to understand that the stock market is not a quick scheme to get rich. You have to study the stock market and predict that a loss is going to be a gain in the future. Basically, it’s the lung game. Not to mention anything that you decide to invest in the stock market think of it as money that you’re no longer ever going to see. It’s no different than going to the casino and betting on black.

    @Alejandro: there are retrofits in development, on low energy nuclear technology. The CO2 you'd expect from the exhaust, becomes O2. No plant food, just human inhale directly. It's appears to be real, a similar paper was just published under peer-review in Nature by Greenyer and the Taipei uni. More specific to petrol/diesel cars, the Thunderstorm Generator is a retrofit that ionizes the air taken in, sends it through a water bubbler, into the engine. Then the gasses from the engine go back through the TG reactor, just a thin layer of metal removed from the intake air. Eventual exhaust gasse are COLD where you'd expect hot. Near zero carbon where you'd expect lots. 16% oxygen where you'd expect near zero. If true, the whole climate sham impacting hydrocarbon burning will be "green" suddenly, measure in plant food. Way more eco than EVs, although EVs make plants eat still.

    Sorry to say this, but I shorted Rivian when you mentioned to buy it because there is a trend of RUclipsrs talking about stocks, and then losing tremendous value shortly thereafter.

    There is no enough minerals to go full electric worldwide and that is the reason it cannot be long term solution. Car companies are pulling the plug already because it's a waste of money.

    The difference is Tesla was actually making profit on their cars! Yes, Tesla wasn’t still profitable at the time because they were spending money on R&D but, the difference is Rivian is losing money even if they weren’t investing on R&D. Their cars aren’t profitable to make! I still believe Rivian will come out in a quarter or two to do a cap raise under the guise of “funding the R2” but still a long shot on if the R2 will get into production…(remember the delays for the R1??)

    I don't know if I would call it well priced. Most people live on wage-slave finances these days. So, I'm going to say that nine out of ten people wouldn't be able to afford a car like that in their lifetime. Most people these years struggle to afford the payments on 15-20k$ cars.

    I think rivian will only survive if 1 they make a cheap model to compete with model 3/Y or they sell majority to a bigger brand like GM/Ford etc.

    The real problem is fuel. All in all, electric cars contaminate basically the same as other ICE cars. Ideally, the future would be with alternative fuels with ICE and hybrid cars.

    Rivian doesn't have 10bn cash, on paper they have a bit under 8 but they also have 4.4bn$ in debt. So that means they really have 3.6 and they are losing 5.5bn per year. That's about 85k in loss per car they sell. That's one hell of a margin. In an interview the other day the CEO didn't sound like he has a plan for improving that margin so that's why it looks a little bit like a deadite. A well liked product but unviable. And they just lowered the prices which can't help the margin. Elon had the profit margin to give so he just squeezed everybody. And they were all already bleeding hard. Everybody else loses money on EVs, not Tesla. The reason I think Lucid is being punished less is simply exposure. Their situation is really quite a bit worse. They have no dealer, they don't advertise, nobody is talking about them and despite Saud buying thousand of cars they only have 5000 annual sales. Real sales might be 1000 a year. And they were losing big money selling 200k$ cars and now they are forced into 70k cars. On paper it looks bad. In reality is looks the same :) In principle both could turn it around, they are both making good vehicles. But will they? I'm guessing no.
    Electric cars will dominate, there wont be any primitive gassers. That the rich car guys are often stubbornly ignorant doesn't really matter, the rest of the world is shifting. Norway is already 100% EVs in new car sales. Next year pure ICE will be illegal to sell in Norway. I drive my Tesla, it's inconceivable that I would pick an ICE car next. The combustion engine died in 2006, it's just too dumb to have noticed.

      Sidenote, I came across a rivian headlight for sale used, about 600$. That suggests their parts are crazy expensive. I just one headlight costs Rivian 600$ that quickly adds up.
      And in case it wasn't obvious to some, such a headlight should cost 50$ or less. If suppliers are greedy douches then it's vertical integration time. Take it inhouse. It's not that hard a thing to make.
