The Non-Canon Expert looks at whether Darth Maul knew Darth Sidious was also Senator Palpatine from Naboo and if Darth Sidious revealed the full details about the Clone Wars and how he would complete the Sith Grand Plan to his apprentice Darth Maul.
This is a Legends story for Darth Maul and Darth Sidious with information found within the Legends novels "Star Wars: The Wrath of Darth Maul" and "Star Wars: Darth Plagueis." I hope that you enjoy it!

“Hundreds of senators are now under the influence of a Sith Lord called...Darth Sidious.”
I don't believe you.
*- Obi Wan Kenobi*
That's what I think is a major plot hole; how could they not figure out that Palpatine was Darth Sidious? what other individual in the entire galaxy would have even had any dealings with literally hundreds of of Senators, let alone had any influence over them, OTHER than the Supreme Chancellor? lol. No matter how much the Dark Side clouded judgement and diminished thier ability to use the Force, you would think the Jedi could use simple logic to see what was blatantly looking them in the face.
QUOD TERMINOS JUSTIFY QUOD MEDIUM it’s not a plot whole it’s just a flaw of the Jedi order they thought that they were too powerful and in control for a sith to get so close to them.
@@quodterminosjustifyquodmed6616 hubris of the Jedi
It's not that obvious. I only figured it out after episode one at the end when they showed Senator Palpatine side view with Mace Windu, when they asked ćWhich was destroyed, the master or the apprentice. Otherwise I would have been surprised during episode 3.
Yes, they talked face to face at the capital and when Savage Oppress told Darth Maul about the Clone Wars, Maul said, “So it began, without me”
Can you do a what if?
What if Vader's real name as anakin Skywalker was known throughout the galaxy?
Wouldnt that make the galaxy more supportive of the empire as a whole. They could just use anti jedi propaganda about what the order did to Skywalker when he protected the republic
Honestly I can’t wait for episode 11, I’m really interested to see how TCW handles Order 66
The real question is how they're going to fill up episode 12 which may be the longest.
@@bruhmieter5688 I mean, i'm just spitballing here. But I'm guessing episode 11 ends with order 66. Potentially with Rex killing Jesse to save ashoka. Ep 12 would then be all about her escaping Mandalor, spruced in with moments of how the clones take over mandalore and how Maul gtfo of there.
@@LazyTestudines I think it's gonna be midway actually.
I hope you and everyone to doing alright! May the Force be with us all during this pandemic!
If Maul only told Aksoka then she would alert Obi Wan who would alert the counsil. It would seem like revenge for Maul outting Sidious. But maybe Maul thought he'd thirve in the chaos during the Empires Reign
In Legends most sources imply that had Maul not lost on Naboo be it becoming crippled, imprisoned in a high profiled jail cell, or killed off then Mauls role would of been in Grievous And Ventresses roles although Maul would be more deadlier and powerful then those two but Dooku would be Sidious second in command because in Legends Dooku had a higher potential then Maul did and was way smarter too I know the oppisite is true in Canon but with the EU Plagueis himself saw Dooku by TPM Circa while Dooku was still a Jedi Master as a insurance apprentice if Sids either becomes crippled badly enough, gets imprisoned in a high profiled prison, or dies while he only saw Maul as a useful yet expendable sith assassin showing that Sidious had a higher force potential then Dooku while Dooku had a higher one then Maul yeah.
makes you wonder if maul was in a proper state of mind, he could have exposed sidious to the jedi many times
I have a theory that
Palpatine probably knew about mauls survival-
But he probably doesn't care about him or care less for him-
Its stated on the wiki after he killed plagues the wise,he felt a disturbence in the force and realized it was maul's "death" so no he didnt know,as soon as he found about him,he came to see him on Mandalore.
@@mojewjewjew4420 aн
Now I kinda wanna see a "What if Maul became the master?" How would the plan of the Sith be altered? Who would he take as an apprentice? Dooku, Ventress, another?
More likely Ventress or Savage a Maul's apprentice than Dooku or another.
@Abu Eesa ibn Zakariya Didn't he defect from the Jedi only AFTER Qui Gon died? I also thought Sidious only corrupted him after he left the Jedi.
OK I just finished watching The Rise Of Skywalker and I'm sitting here crying. But at the same time I'm pissed off because I NEVER once seen Anakin in the movie. I was told that Hayden Christiansan was going to be in the movie. Boy I'm so dissapointed.
Steve Vestel - That’s exactly why we want to see “The JJ Cut” of TROS. Various members of the cast have described additional scenes that were filmed, but weren’t included in the theatrical cut of TROS. We want to see those deleted scenes!
@@thegreypath1777 I'm wondering if I go to Walmart and buy the 4K Version if that would have the deleted scenes?
I mean of course he knew because it was his First apprentice duh....
I'm pretty sure he knew the gist of the plan... THE plan
It really impressed me how wise Maul was. He is perhaps the most underrated character in Star Wars.
Agreed damn people don't remember how beloved and feared he was when the prequel came out he was amazing even more terrorizing than vader to me
Imagine if Ahsoka believed Maul or Anakin killed Palpatine in the Chancellor's Office.
Yes but because they are the "prequels" The senate has *UNLIMITED plot armor*
Or all three, imagine Maul, Ahsoka and Anakin waiting for the chancelor and then circling around him with lightsabers...and by accident all jedi masters on Coruscant or at least Yoda, Windu and Kenobi visiting the office - I have doubts they would figure out whats happening:"no, no chancelor can't be the sith lord, he already has all the power, and they are just teaching him how to use his new red sith lightsabers" and Kenobi would realize that group thinking is not always good and would join, so Yoda and Mace maybe, but others would go hunt Sly More or Ameda...
He *must* have recognized his voice and his face from all the vidcomms and speeches
Maul could have easily warned *everyone!*
Tucac Starkiller for no reason
Tucac Starkiller bro shut up no one loves you ur a cancer he did nothing to you
Tucac Starkiller bro lol u didn’t text back because ur scary wow go hide ur so rude
Tucac Starkiller because it was shit
Maul definitely knows who Palpatine is because in TPM where Darth Maul says "At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last we will have our revenge" is on the balcony of Palpatine's office in the Senate building so it would make no sense if they changed that in canon. I only know this because if you see Palpatine's office when Padme is sitting on the red couch you see the same balcony in the background.
That's a very good point but still... Why would Palps change into a sith robe to meet Maul? And why didn't Maul tell Ahsoka that Sidious = Palpatine? And would Sidious let Maul run amok for so long hoping that Maul won't betray his secret identity? I'm still not sure if canon-Maul knew...
@@tsitsu8345 Because Maul wanted Ahsoka to join him before telling anything. And she probably wouldn't have believed him anyway, especially after telling her Anakin had to die
@@tsitsu8345if a former sithlord told you that your former master, anakin Skywalker, hero of the republic and jedi, the hero with no fear, and believed chosen one of the jedi would willingly betray the jedi and join the sith. And that the sith lord manipulating everything was fucking chancellor Palpatine, a widely respected politician and leader of the republic. You would think he was just lying or stalling for time. Palpatine was seen by the galaxy as a kindly politician that was doing his best to save the republic, and was more popular than the jedi and most senators.
Ashoka would shrug and keep questioning him until he revealed the truth.
Episode 1, Maul and Palps are having a conversation on the roof. This shouldn’t even be a question
yea but as darth sidious
Had he “survived “ I could see Maul being placed as head of the Confederacy. As an alien, he would have had a perfect excuse to rally others and convince them to separate from the crumbling Republic
And he could have been cast as a disillusioned jedi
B. Lloyd Reese I agree
Very good point!
@@b.lloydreese2030 at least at first. The Jedi would deny his place in the order and that would cause discontent either way
Ashton Peterson thanks!
Lol he can’t have thought him and ahsoka could take on sidious, did he forget how he got whooped with his brother?
Ahsoka is significantly more powerful than savage and maul gained power too. I don’t think he actually believed they could win but ahsoka could alert the Jedi. Maul, Ashoka and the Jedi like windu, yoda, and obi wan and maybe even anakin would very easily overwhelm palpatine. The weakest link in that fight is maul at the peak of his power so that just shows how OP that alliance would’ve been
Spectra Phantom agreed. Ashoka would destroy savage in a saber fight. He is so uncoordinated.
Ahsoka is definitely smarter and more capable in combat than Savage, remember for most users of a double-bladed lightsaber, they actually were more hindered combatively than helped. Just using a single or two single-bladed lightsabers was more optimal most of the time, and most users of a double-bladed lightsaber acted simply as butcher barbarian types, which is actually a specific reason Palpatine had Maul use one. It made Plagueis certain that Maul wasn't being trained as a TRUE sith Apprentice, so he had no fear of being replaced by him.
Elden Vedetta keyword being most. Maul was definitely more competent with a double bladed saber as opposed to a single bladed one.
Spectra Phantom savage is definitely not weak tho remember he took on dooku and ventress at the same time then like 5 minutes later took on anakin and obi-wan. he also easily defeated and killed adi gallia, a jedi master, and mowed through some jedi without even using a lightsaber.
Another amazing video. Thank you.
In these hard times, I have one thing to say- the Force will be with you....always 🙂it's not long till May 4th too!
Joshua Robinson - Yes, but, is disney finally going to reveal The JJ Cut of The Rise Of Skywalker, OR continue to keep the deleted scenes from TROS hidden from us?
He was with Palpatine on his not so secret balcony on Coruscant...he must've known it was him.
Wow! I'm the first view! Never been fortunate enough to catch a SWRC video right out of the gates. It's nice to know that the subscription notification actually works. And, on such an excellent topic too.
I was just thinking about this channel today and thinking about how I haven't seen anything in like a week.
Maul was a fake sith lord he was trained to be nothing more than a sith assassin he was never meant to be apart of the rule of 2! Sidious withheld sith knowledge from him because he was never meant to be a Sith Lord he was never going to be more powerful than Sidious and take the mantle as master! Simply a sith assassin with the Darth title to make him feel as if he was a real sith
Would also like to note he was never given a sith name he was just maul with Darth added to it. That should show he was never meant for anything other than a tool to be used by the sith
I wish Maul’s plan would’ve worked with luring Anakin to his trap from episode 10. I think we all know Anakin would’ve DESTROYED Maul, I mean Anakin trained against the simulation of Maul since he was a Padawan. This could’ve been one of the best lightsaber duels in the whole canon
Darth maul knew something was about to happen, he could sense the darkside becoming stronger and stronger, whatever plan his master had in motion he knew it was about to come to fruition, knowing also that dooku is dead and anakin killed him meant that Palpatine was about to turn Skywalker to the darkside and have him be his greatest weapon to lead whatever plan sidious had in mind
I just come from the video about how Sidious was such a skilled lightsaber duelist and I have a question. Do we know if Vader did that same trip Sidious did with Plagueis to that planet where they had to fight the population?
I wonder if Sidious let Vader wipe out the entire population. The Sith has used the planet for generations but now Sidious had no plans for future generations of Sith, the rule of two ended with him and (until he found someone more powerful) Vader.
Thank you for watching! This is such a great question that I have thought about as well. I don't think we know from a direct story within the lore, but I do find Plagueis's quote to Sidious interesting in that he understood the Sith would likely one day grow past the need for the trip, which I could see Sidious concluding once he became Emperor. Thank you again and I hope that you enjoyed the video!
Thank you both for the answer! :O
First of all, yes. I enjoyed that video and this a lot. I always love all the videos you prepare, they are gold! :D
And both opinions are interesting... They can easily go along together. Sidious follows Plagueis' comments regarding not needing the planet and he lets Vader go on a killing spree... Wow. That is great content for a new comic
Love the video but where are the gaming videos u haven't uploaded in 5 mouths just wondering that's all
Thanks i don't have Disney plus but im still very curious as to what's going on with maul
Ha ha, Maul was wondering if he'd ever acquire a secret identity. Good luck with that, buddy.
Always love your videos, but we hope you're staying safe and doing well too. I'm looking forward to the next episode of this
You forgot to like the video?
Shame!!! :D
I do wonder how things would have been if Maul had survived and Dooku never become Sidious' apprentice. The Legends version of Maul would never have been able to form the Separatist Union that Dooku did. And canon Maul... from the bit we saw in the Maul short comic, I doubt it. He really grew and changed quite a bit after his revival on Dathomir
I think Palpatine would have encouraged Dooku to still do his thing, but not bring him into the Sith, using Maul to instigate things on both sides. Dooku was at a point where he'd have formed the Separatist Union regardless.
Any time I see a Darth Maul video, I click and obey
Maul should have been the main villain through the prequels; a menace to the Jedi and head of the confederacy. He would of been the perfect fall guy at the end of Sidious’ plan. Anakin defeating Maul and Sidious betraying him I think would have been more potent.
Maul i think is more iconic amongst fans and could have defined the prequels as a villain in the same way Vader defined the sequels
If not for me... for "we're all going to burn!"
I believe Dooku made more of a convincing leader for the CIS, so I don't see Maul in that position, which makes me wonder... Where did Sidious had planned to have Maul at during the clone wars?
Maul: "he turned the jedi's own army against them."
I can’t remember if it was episode 9 or 10, but Maul says, “so, they haven’t turned on you, yet”, when in the tunnels.
I don’t remember this and I watched both 2 times
All he said was 'not. Yet'
"I wonder... if the moment may be upon us"
Could you make the original video on how much Sidious told Maul about the Sith please.
Wtf ever happened to the green lightsaber? I feel like disney is being bias against green..
He saw his face for years heard his voice and got beat up by him he knew both his identitys
If the chosen one had come along, and Maul hadn't been defeated, Maul would have been a powerful Sith. He always had a burning hatred and just think of Episode 4 with Maul instead of Vader walking into the Tantive IV
Boom !
I love how your Canadian comes out with some words "aboot"
It's funny because even though maul is so evil, after learning about his back story you can't help but feel sorry for him at times. Especially when Savage opress and mother talsin die everytime he thinks he's got a family or a foot hold something goes wrong 😢 except when he goes after obi wan than that fool gets what he deserves. Also though anyone who would kill Jedi Liam Neison deserves to get chopped in half 😂
Seth Winters - I wonder why disney killed off Jedi Ginn so early in the saga. Of course, it’s possible that Leim Nelson had said that he only wanted to do one episode.
@@thegreypath1777 yeah that's always been my theory. I think the prequels would have been awesome with qui gon training Anakin instead too. But yeah it'd change alot of things lol. Obi wan probably wouldnt have change his lightsaber style or ever became the master of soresu (I can't remember how to spell it lol)
Oh and technically it wasn't Disney that killed him off that was just George Lucas. That decision pre dated the whole Disney buying star wars stuff
@@thegreypath1777 Disney? Are you serious
If Yoda was stalin order 66 never happened
Legends only? Yes. Maul was trained in Sidious’ own image and the Master was training him as a successor in the event he died. Maul states in TCW (before the Disney buyout, thus remaining Legends) that he knew of the plans.
No, the whole clone wars is canon
@@criosovereign Clone Wars remains both canon and Legends material as it existed in the same timeframe.
@@AwFiddleStickss ah I thought you meant legends only, apologies for my misunderstanding
I keep coming back for those "if not for meeeee" bits at the end. They're usually not even funny but I laugh literally every time lol
🤔 Legends Continuity is better!
I haven't had a chance to watch season 7 yet, so I'm going to skip to the end to find out what i should leave a like for....which is...*needing to do a what if on Maul defeating Obi-Wan*
What’s the history of the blades Maul had in this episode? I’ve lost count somewhere along the way. What’s their journey up to this point?
I was thinking about this like I wasn’t sure
It’s treason then
... why is Obi-Wan holding his lightsaber like that? From what I can tell he has his thumbs facing each other, which is not how you hold a single bladed weapon!!
Yessssssss
No way he didn't know Sidious' alto-ego!!
Darth Maul in legends would never join with a jedi, he despised them.
Ahsoka is not a jedi.
He knew of order 66. But I don’t think he knew Sideous was Papy.
Who cares about legends anymore
RICK NICK - WHO cares about disney’s trilogy?!?
