This is a good idea to have one of the theses since councils don't pick up food waste or green bins every two weeks saves on rubbish too

Very useful video, thanks. We are waiting to have a new kitchen installed and have decided to get a disposal unit. My dad has one and my grandparents swear by them so thought I would get one too! Didn’t realise there were two different types and have only experienced the continuous versions (although have been guilty of filling it up before turning it on, oops). I think I’m going to go with an InSinkerator as they seem to be the main player and my grandparents have one which seems quieter than my dads (not sure of the brand, might be the Maxamator one?) although that one is now 15 years old. Just great to have a UK video about them as they don’t seem common here. As you say, they’re everywhere in the US!

Great video. I’ve just bought a second hand version of this unit (Maxmatic 5000). I thought the fact that it had both batch and continuous functions that I could use it without needing the magnet/cover, and that I would just be able to keep pushing material into the unit. Is there a way to do this, without needing to cover the hole with the magnet each time?
    Thanks

Hi. You could place the continuous feed tube in but remove the rubber splash guard. It will run continuously and you can feed things in without the splash guard in the way. Did you get the continuous feed tube with it?

@@everythingandthekitchensink thank you for your reply. From a quick Google search, the continuous flow tube appears to be called magnitube, and I didn’t get one included, but fir £16 new I’ll order one. Thank you again for pointing that out and suggesting to remove the rubber splash guard.

I often have items which won't go into the dishwasher, or not enough to justify it being used, and like the majority in the UK I have a plastic bowl of water.
A couple of times a week I will turn on the waste disposal unit and pour this hot soapy water down the waste disposal unit. Not only has this stopped my unit from smelling (essential in a flat with the kitchen and living dining areas together) but has also kept the pipework clear.

    *HELP NEEDED*
I have a dish cloth court in a MaxMatic 5000!! I know ,,, dont ask please....
I believe I can do a rewind of the blade to release the cloth please help because I know no more than this.

I won't ask... you should have got a metal crowbar type thing with it? You can use it to turn the gear inside and hopefully unlodge the dish cloth. I wouldn't turn the unit on with the cloth still in there as it may make it worse. The best thing to do would be to get some long pincers (like BBQ tongs) and reach in and see how much you can remove. Then use the metal rod to carefully wiggle the gear inside to dislodge (make sure its unplugged)
Absolute worse case would be to to remove the unit from under the sink and take it to piece carefully - or get someone else to do it that knows what they are doing.
I really would not try turning it on and using the switch to reverse direction as this will just make it worse.
GOOD LUCK! If it needs taking apart it will be a pain but I dont see why it won't work again!

make this a Buy maxmatic ad. ise is mediocre now contentious units are AS batch feed units are. you have a maxmatic which isn't insulated or is it? it doesn't look like it. they're around the same noise level depending on motor rpm, size/hp and how the unit is soundproofed
