Thank you!! This 62 year old single lady, took the disposal apart and was able to locate and pull out a small screw that fell in the disposal! No fuss no muss. Feeling pretty confident now!
Thank you!!!!! My husband was away for work and a shot glass fell into the garbage disposal. All the broken glass clogged it up, so the sink wouldn’t drain and the disposal was locked up. He insisted I waited until he got home but I couldn’t cook or do dishes easily with this issue, so to RUclips I went. With this video I was able to carefully do it all by myself before my husband came back from his work trip. I was so incredibly proud of myself and so was he 😂❤🎉
Cleaned out my aquarium last night and even with a strainer some gravel made it through. With the help of your video, I was able to fix it myself and now it's up and running like a champ again. Super wife, super life!
Thank you for making this video,I am a single woman trying to save money and I am not handy at all when it comes to fixing things. The video showed me step by step what to do and I was able to follow along and repair my disposal.
I did it! I did it all by myself without having to call Dad. I turned the thing and pressed the button and it unclogged! I am like so amazing you guys...
Thank you for this video! I was able to repair my disposal after dropping a glass dish in. One thing that helped me after disassembly was using an Allen-wrench for the bottom of the motor to manually loosen some of the grit that was stuck in the 'grinding' teeth. Great instructions in your video, thanks again!
I just removed a small pebble from my son’s fish tank that had gotten lodged in mine and had it locked up, for 6 months! Thanks so much for the well done, informative video.
Reality was, I got done watching the part I needed went to the kitchen, and was done in 5 minutes. Wife was watching a TikTok video in the front room with All I Do Is Win playing. Yeah, I celebrated to the song. Thanks Mega Shake!
Thanks so much for this tutorial… I used it once several months ago and then had to use it again tonight (worked like a charm!)…it’s the best one on RUclips -thanks so much!
This is very helpful..in my case,it was big nail that was stuck flat and jammed hard between the blade and base..started with simple troubleshooting steps but couldn't move the screw underneath to unjam(as the nail is sandwiched so hard) and also tried from top etc.....finally I had to remove the whole unit which gave me flexibility to exert needed pressure and remove the sucked up nail. This video helped me to uninstall and install the disposer unit...
Thank you. I broke a 10 cup measuring cup/bowl the other day and there were large chunks of glass in the bottom of my disposal that I couldn't reach. Once I dropped the motor down, it was easy to do. I installed one of these things some 15 years ago, but I had forgotten how they attach up at the collar. I appreciate the help!
Thank you, my husband was ready to call the plumber and I showed him your video, so he got a Allen wrench and worked it back and fourth and un jammed it.
This video was very helpful I follow the step-by-step instructions and was able to fix my sink in under 30 minutes. Thank you I have been dealing with this problem for over six months and didn’t know that I was able to fix it in 30 minutes is a relief
Thank you so much!!! My disposal was humming (it was jammed by some small rock hard object that fell in there). After cleaning it out and messing with it I was able to free the top spinning mechanism and it worked like a charm! Many thanks!

Great video! I almost didn’t watch it past the first two minutes of it thinking all it was going to show is removing the particles by sticking your hands in from the top. I needed to know how to remove the unit itself. I stayed with it and I’m glad I did. Great explanation with great video. Loved the high speed shots. I knew how it worked but never have seen it in action. Thanks for taking the time to make this. It’s really helpful.
TAPP PLUMBING - wasn’t plugged. Turned out to be the unit itself. Had to replace it. Seals around the internal motor failed. Just can’t buy anything that lasts anymore. This unit only lasted 15 years. (Sarcasm). Your video helped me understand some things that I never have been exposed to before. Thanks for that.
This video was super helpful, thanks for posting it! It wasn’t as complicated as I thought it would be, and now I know how to do it if it happens again!!
Thanks for this video. Many other videos stop short of removing the garbage disposal or showing an example of a clog that can't be removed via plunger.
Thank you so much for this video! I'd never messed with a disposal before, but 10 minutes after watching this it was working again! Had a measuring spoon stuck in it
thank you so much I really appreciate this diy video and your effort to explain how it works. I did this process and it took about 30mins to fix my sink now I can use the dish washer can't believe I went 3 months washing manual and waiting for it to drain your a real life saver.

Thank you! I was able to do it without removing the disposal. I have small hands.1) Unplugged power. Did not disconnect the water. 2) I used a flashlight to see what was in there. 3) Removed the jammed pieces of plastic that were easy to remove by hand. 3) Took a very small pair or jewelers plyers to pry the stuck piece out. 4) Plugged in and hit reset. If someone has large hands this would not work. You would need bent needle nose angled plyers.
Michelle Goebel Thank you for sharing your experience. I was wondering if it was absolutely necessary to remove the whole disposal. I can clearly see into the disposal when I remove the rubber thing from the sink drain. Washing dishes is my teenage son’s chore, and he apparently didn’t understand that plenty of water needs to be running to flush out the debris when he uses the disposal. 🤦🏼♀️ 🤢🤮 Oh! And, it also helps to make sure utensils haven’t fallen into the disposal before it’s turned on. This is how we learn. 😂🤣
Thank you I didn't have to do all of that the pipe was clogged up I cleaned the piper real good and put it back together garbage disposal back in business thank you very much
thank you so much!! I watched half a dozen videos on how to clear a garbage disposal before I found yours, and yours was by far the most helpful and informative!! Liked & Subscribed!!
There is actually a little zig zag shaped or double ended Allen type wrench made specifically for garbage disposals... Sometimes included with a new disposal unit. We keep ours right under the sink so if there is a problem or it’s time for a new unit we don't have to tear up the house looking for it. Or a 1/4in Allen wrench will give you the leverage u need to turn the collar. Great vid!
Thank you for sharing this fix it trick, I have recently clogged mine with beans... So I will be trying the reset tips, hoping that I do not have to take the disposal off.
Thanks for your help, it's all unclogged, yesss there is nothing like a clean sink😌 trouble shooting now ; so I am watching the video and it was hard holding my flashlight/phone. I am going to buy a Big Larry, my husband will be so proud of me.
Hey, this is very helpful! You showed a lot of steps I needed that others didn’t include. I hate to be the typical RUclips commentor, but the audio balance is a bit off-the ambient vocal mic is fairly quiet in relation to the loud backing track. No biggy. Thanks again for the help.
Thank you so much! just took mine off and cleaned it, sorted the issues I've been having. Can't thank you enough! though I had lots of nasty old black gunk to clean out, as well as rust. can blame my apartment complex for being cheap and cutting corners for that. Still, this video made everything easy to follow and understand 😊

Took my noisy g-disposal out, scrapped the greasy, semisolid matter, hosed as clean as possible. It works fine now. Not sure what caused the rumbling noise. Best evidence was a piece of string. Glad for saving $250 - $300 for a replacement. BTW, this unit is a Whirlpool & is 8 years old.

Thanks. Would think some engineer would design a disposal you could screw off the top that's in the sink to see what's clogging/jamming the disposal. Having to take out the disposal itself is a pain in Le Butt especially with knees that don't bend....grrrr!. Apparently, my jam is due to a piece of metal from a small knife, looking for it now... The problem has been fix ,according to your step-by-step instructions ,thank you n appreciated.
Thanks this helps a lot. I want to note that the downstream T junction of the disposal is where this clogging misery would most likely to happen
Thanks for watching! Happy to help
Thank you! With the help of your instructions, I was able to get a small rock out of our disposal and everything back together in about 15 minutes!

thanks, all the other videos just showed using an alan wrench on the bottom, disconnecting it was much easier to find the obstruction (tiny nail)
Thanks a bunch! Very informative for a novice plumber like me!!
You're welcome!
Pulled the plug, then pulled out the olive seeds. Didnt know about the plug so thanks for that. Thank goodness I didn’t need to disassemble it.

Okay boss so happy new year as I write this I just spent my newyears morning doing this exact thing to no avail.
