Ok, I did put 2 1/2 cups of cold left over spaghetti in my disposal and it has clogged the lower part of the disposal. Is there ANY WAY I can clear it without taking all the pipes apart!? Your videos are so clear. Thank you.
Aye, lass, it is possible that a product called "Instant Power" (comes in a black bottle) could do the trick. However, if that doesn't work, taking it apart is probably the only way to clear it.

Aye, take the pipe loose from the side of the disposal, and see if you can push the handle of a spoon into the disposal chamber. If that doesn't work, and you've already leaned the P trap, then the problem could be further down the system. Do you have a snake?
My issue was from potato peels also, plus onion skin. Thanks for the insight! I just had my basement snaked (massive flood) so in no way did I want to all a plumber!

YOU SAVED ME SERIOUS COIN! Of all the video's I've watched over the years for DIY fixes this was by far the best. Aw, lass ye bring a tear to me eye! Both fer yer thanks and fer your story! I've done the same thing - like turning on the water to warsh me hands before reconnecting them pipes. So glad we were able to help save you some coin. Smooth sailin', lass!
Aye, matey, it could be the trap arm, or between the p-trap and the wall. If you take off the trap arm and it is not clogged, you should try running a snake into the pipe that goes into the wall. Let us know if that solves the problem.
Dental floss (8 inches or so) got into the disposal. Didn't see it, turned on the disposal and now it won't drain, which makes sense! I was able to get most of it out in small pieces using needle nose pliers, and I can't see any more of it, but it still won't drain. The disposal blades are not stuck. If I turn it for a few seconds, it sounds and looks normal. If I run water for 5 to 10 seconds, it won't drain. I've tried pulsing the on/off switch. I've reset the disposal and it still won't drain. What now?
Have you checked the P-trap to see if there might be something else causing the backup? I would try that first, then check all of the pipes, from the disposal to where it goes into the wall. Let me know what you find.
@@thepiratehandyman2225 P-trap was clean, but the pipes had 30 years of 'stuff' in them. Got a snake and back in business. Thanks for the quick response - arrrgh!
What if your sink without the garbage disposal drains fine, but the garbage disposal side doesn't? There was nothing in the P-trap, and liquid plumber didn't help.
Check the pipe that connects the P-trap to the side of the garbage disposal. The pipe comes off with 2 screws on the side of the disposal. If that pipe is clear, look inside the disposal where you removed the pipe. Le us know if that worked, matey!
I cleaned out my pantry and had a few cups of flax meal..tried plunging. right side ok left side disposal not ok tried hot water and instapower.. very slowly draining..
I'm getting ready to try this, but have a question. When I turn on my disposer, water shoots out of the vent on top of my sink. Do I have some other issue going on in addition to the clog?
Nay, lass, the clog must be located behind the the pipe that leads to the vent. When you remove and clean the P trap, make sure the pipe that leads out to the drain is not clogged. Good luck, and let us know if it worked!
@@thepiratehandyman2225 Weeeel, in attempting to remove the pipe from the vent to the p-trap, I broke the fitting holding the pipe to the bottom of the sink. So...now I'm going to the hardware to get a replacement fitting for that. The clog wasn't in the line from the vent to the p-trap, so now I'm thinking it's further along in the pipe where it goes out the wall? Tried using a short snake but got nothing out. Going back in with a longer metal snake next.
I break stuff all the time while trying to fix things - it's part of the process! ;-) If the longer snake doesn't work, try a product called Instant Power Hair and Grease Remover. It comes in a black bottle, and works wonders. Just follow the instructions, and you may have to do 2 rounds, but it's much cheaper than a plumber. If that doesn't work, then a plumber may be your only option.
@@thepiratehandyman2225 snaked the pipe, got the clog out, and replaced the broken part, just $4.28 at Lowe’s! Thank you for your help, you saved me a LOT of cash! 🙌🏻
OMG! My garbage disposal plugged up right in the middle of peeling potatoes to dehydrate. I normally don’t peel potatoes but decided to do so for dehydrating. I put vinegar and baking soda in, ran with hot water, did the other side of the sink and used a plunger......2 hours later still looking at brown water in my sink. So, i figured it was in the pipe but I thought I had to have special tools to take everything apart. I watched your video and decided to try it. I only removed the pea trap and it was full of skins. I put a brush in the other pipes....just a bit nervous to remove anymore. Now that I got it back together and everything is working, I’ll have more confidence if things run slow to remove a bit farther up the pipe trail. I’m mid 70’s, grandma of six with my first great grand baby on the way and I self cleaned the pipes under my sink! Saved me $100 or more. Sooooo happy. Thanks for your video that covered every question I would have had. 🤗
Aye, lass, glad it worked for ye - made me heart glad to read this! I be a grandfather of 7, so I be so happy to hear that the video helped one of me contemporaries! Smooth sailin, me lady!
I went through this today. My wife put 2 quart jars of Lupini beans down the garbage disposal and said, Hon, the garbage disposal is clogged up, water standing in the sink. I asked her why she put the Lupini beans down the disposal and she said 'It's a garbage disposal, why not'? I explained that certain things do not go down the disposal very well, such as uncooked Lupini beans. I tried the plunger and a a few other things but no dice. So after watching a video (not this one) and getting some idea of what to do I lit into it. I removed the pvc pipes which were full of beans and a few other substances. It stunk like all get out. I cleaned out the gunk and flushed it down the john. Scrubbed the pvc and put it all back together. Now it works great and all is back to normal. My wife is impressed and thinks I am a real handy man. This is all good stuff to know. She also promised never to put Lupini beans down the disposal again. I agreed and asked her never to buy them again. I don't like Lupini beans.
my disposal is clogged, due to an excess amount of fresh spinach I put down it. We have tried everything except disconnecting the pipes under the sink.
Aye, lass. yer gonna have to take of the P trap at the bottom. Or, you could try a bottle of Instant Power, but it takes overnight to work. If you can avoid using the sink for that long, that is an option. Otherwise, just follow the instructions on removing the P trap, and that should work.
@@thepiratehandyman2225The garbage disposal and all the pvc pipes are clear. There was a very strong odor after disassembling the pvc pipes. I tried to put a snake into the pvc pipe going out into the back wall of the condo unit but it was blocked by a turn in the pipe. When I put everything back together, water still backs up into the sink. I would like to see the second video. Tgank you.
Here are 2 other videos that might might provide some insight? Let me know if these help. ruclips.net/video/21Gl3ObLH6Q/видео.html ruclips.net/video/c2UWSIBx5xM/видео.html
If you cannot reach the clog with an auger, try getting a bottle of Instant Power. I have had great luck with it. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid you will need a plumber.
Try removing the pipe on the side of the disposal that run down to the P-trap. If that is clear, then the blockage is further down the line. Please see the recent video we did on using snakes (drain augers). I'll post the link below.
I took off all the pipes and there was no Clog in either of the pipes. I even snaked them.... Nothing. Put them back on and still got the same result, still clogged.... Idk what to do next
Did you snake the drain all the way back into the wall? Did you check to make sure the knockout plug in the garbage disposal? If yes to both, try using a product called "Instant Power" (www.homedepot.com/p/Instant-Power-67-6-oz-Hair-and-Grease-Drain-Cleaner-1970/100169339). Otherwise, you may have to call a plumber.
I guess I am the 1%, I also snaked it with a 25ft auger and still clogs after 39 seconds of running water. It does go down just slowly. No clue maybe I pushed the blockage to 25 ft. I do have about 38ft of a run to the main drain pipe. Not sure if I get a 50 ft auger or call a plumber.
You also might try a product called Instant Power Hair and Grease. It comes in a black bottle. I used it in a similar situation to yours, and it worked great. Put in half a bottle, let it sit for 8 - 12 hours, then use hot water. Good luck, matey!
Then ye most likely have a partial clog somewhere in the drain line. Try pouring some Instant Power in the drain and letting it sit over night (www.homedepot.com/p/Instant-Power-67-6-oz-Hair-and-Grease-Drain-Cleaner-1970/100169339). If it still drains slowly, start dismantling the drain, starting at the garbage disposal. If you can't find the clog between the garbage disposal and where the drain enters the wall, then use a snake, pushing it into the drain as it goes into the wall until you come up against the clog and dislodge it.
@@thepiratehandyman2225 thank you! I should clarify, the sink drains slowly and the garbage disposal doesn't work, it just hums. Is the drain cleaner still the way to go? I tried to remove the U pipe but couldn't because they glued it together?!?! (Ahhhh the joys of apartment living)
Glued???? Idiots should be keel hauled! Before using the Instant Power, watch the video on Garbage Disposal Won't Spin. There are 2 things to try in order to get the Garbage Disposal to work - the red reset button, and using an Allen wrench on the end of the shaft (bottom of the disposal) and trying to get it "unstuck." if that works, and it still drains slowly, then try the Instant Power. If that doesn't work, you'll need to call apartment maintenance. Let me know what happens!
Sorry to hear that, matey. The clog might be in the hose/pipe going from the disposal down into the drainpipe. Try taking the hose/pipe loose from the disposal, and see if that is where the clog is.
If it's beyond the P trap, you probably need a snake. You can get one at a hardware store, and it's a good idea to have one. Take off the P trap, and run it out in the direction the water runs from the drain. Hopefully you can either snag or push the blockage thru. Let me know if that works, or even if it doesn't work! There is another trick you can try before resorting to a plumber. Good luck, me hearty!
Hello my one eyed pirate plumber dude. I ordered a snake yesterday that arrived this afternoon before I started searching RUclips for advice. I ran the 25ft snake 3 times. It sort of kinda worked but no cigar, it’s still clogged. I will say the water has slowly drained down but I’m sure it’s still not right. Anymore advice?
Try Instant Power Hair and Grease Drain Opener. It comes in a black bottle, and I have had great luck with it. Let it sit overnight, and it will clear out most clogs. If that doesn't work, then you will probably need to call someone like rotorooter, as the clog may be caused by roots, or a broken/collapsed pipe. Good luck, matey!

@@thepiratehandyman2225 P-trap was clean, but the pipes had 30 years of 'stuff' in them. Got a snake and back in business. Thanks for the quick response - arrrgh!
Arrrgh, matey, glad yer back in business - smooth sailin'!
I found p-trap full of black water, cleaned it out, still have bad smell from disposal, is there a block to the sewer line?
Is the water still backing up? If not, put in lemon rind in the disposal and grind it up. That should eliminate the smell.
@@thepiratehandyman2225 okay, thanks for the tip, will give it a try
Let me know if it works, matey!
Thanks on behalf of all the single ladies 🥰
Aye, lass, thank ye for the kind words. Smooth sailin'!
Wow, I just saved myself 150 bucks!!!
Aye, lass, that be the goal - glad this helped!
I cleaned out my pantry and had a few cups of flax meal..tried plunging. right side ok left side disposal not ok
tried hot water and instapower..
very slowly draining..
Aye, lass, you may have a clog between the disposal and the P-trap. Have you tried taking those pieces apart to see if they are clogged?
@@thepiratehandyman2225 Aye, Ill give it a go in the morning.
Smooth sailin'. lass!
So glad that worked, lass - saving coin is the best! Smooth sailin!
Thanks so much! Night before hosting Thanksgiving. I put spaghetti down it and oh no!!!
Aye, lass, I hope ye got it done in time for the festivities!
Aye, matey, great story - thanks for sharing - smooth sailin'!
Mine clogged after putting raw cabbage in and Iv tried everything, gonna watch this and see whats up. did this to ugh
Let me know how it goes, matey!
my disposal is clogged, due to an excess amount of fresh spinach I put down it.
My P trap was clean and not clogged. I still have water not draining.
Check the pipe coming out of the garbage disposal. That can be another choke point.
Tgank you.

What if the pipes are clear and you suspect it’s the sewer line.. how do you clear the sewer line?
If you cannot reach the clog with an auger, try getting a bottle of Instant Power. I have had great luck with it. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid you will need a plumber.
Mines still backing up after doing all this I’m so lost on other options
Try removing the pipe on the side of the disposal that run down to the P-trap. If that is clear, then the blockage is further down the line. Please see the recent video we did on using snakes (drain augers). I'll post the link below.

My disposal used to run ,even though sink was clogged, now it hums loud what to do?
Does it run and just hum loud? Or, does it only hum when you turn it on?
Try pressing the reset button on the bottom
Check out ourvideo that goes up today at 4:00 PM CDT. It might give you some help. Let us know!
@@thepiratehandyman2225 I went all the way to the wall, gotta check the disposal later today
yarrrrr unveiled a 3-inch solidified grease plug blocking the u-bend
thanks for helping me save some of ME COIN
Aye, matey, glad we could help!
Have you run the auger both from the clean-out access to the street, and the clean-out access back to the house?
You also might try a product called Instant Power Hair and Grease. It comes in a black bottle. I used it in a similar situation to yours, and it worked great. Put in half a bottle, let it sit for 8 - 12 hours, then use hot water. Good luck, matey!
@@thepiratehandyman2225 thanks, I will keep plugging away at it
Did you find a solution?
Yes, it is all clear now. It simply needed more line to run through the pipe. 25ft was not enough, the 50 ft was the answer. Thanks for your help
What if the water in the sink drains but slowly?

I don't see eye to eye with this guy
Aye, matey, good one!
Really hope your true name is Steve and you're on a terrific Dodgeball team 😊
LOL!!!
I’m having the problem right now
Let me know if this helped, matey!
Aaarrrr send the plumbers down the plank !
Aye, matey!
that's great for clogged pipes, but when running my disposer it fills up with water, this didn't help at all
Sorry to hear that, matey. The clog might be in the hose/pipe going from the disposal down into the drainpipe. Try taking the hose/pipe loose from the disposal, and see if that is where the clog is.
Both!
My problem is beyond the p trap
Arrrrrr, thanks Captain! Will give it a try.
Let us know if it works, me hearty! Arrrr!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thankee, matey!
Just buy a new one a lot easier
Aye, matey - but much more expensive!
