Love the 80s adult film music...
But seriously, this is one of the best "how to" videos I've seen for this issue. Excellent explanations of all the options to try before calling a plumber with all the right safety tips. Fixed our sink using this advice in less than 20 minutes (not counting the time I spent watching the video). Thank you!!!

Awesome video Roger. The only thing I would do different if I saw straws on the side without the garbage disposal I wouldn't be plunging it down. I would be taking it apart and taking the straws out. You don't want to get those jam further down. I understand you did say in the he taken down but a lot of times when you punch you'll get them in that horizontal line but it won't actually push it through to the garbage disposal and then eventually it could clog it up again. Thanks a lot!

I had to do this last night. My daughter when she does the dishes wont run water long enough after running the disposal, so naturally it blocked the p trap and the pipe from the disposal to the p trap. Only thing I did different, was to take a tupperware container and mostly empty the sink and disposal side, into a bucket first, before opening up the p trap underneath into a bucket. This way I was sure, that the bucket would hold all of the water that was in the sink, and when I broke open the connections, I let it slow drain first, so that it wouldnt splash all over. Then took each connection loose, cleaned each pipe, put it back together, then flushed it with a large bucket of hot water on each side, so I had volume and pressure, and ran some more hot water down each side to be sure.

I like these sorts of videos. I figured it was doable, but not being a plumber myself, wasn't sure if there was something I had to watch for when taking the pipes apart under my sink. My setup is different; I have a straight pipe that runs from the disposal side to a t intersection and then the p trap. A little struggle to get the t out, but once I did, the offending bits came out easily. Saved us money and time.

If it is in the wall, I have found most times you can run a garden hose up in it, wrap it with a old rag or towel, give it a blast of water, be sure to have a catch can in case it does break lose, repeat the blast a few times, if it breaks lose, let the hose run for a while, if it does not break lose, then you may need a drain snake, from one Roger to another.

Better than a rubber garden hose, is the steel hose. You can twist it further in as they're very flexible. Also, you can see the debris attached to the ridges of the steel hose. I tried that and it removed a lot of debris.

Just moved in a year and half ago,
One drain in the kitchen sink, no disposal,
Remove 95% grease from going down the drain but there always seems to build up.
Tried vinegar-baking soda procedure 3 times,
    Still keeps clogging.
Tried 2 sessions of 1/2 bottle draino gel,
    Still slow & clogging.
But the plunger was the WINNER!

Another way to try to unclog the kitchen sink if it’s both sides that’s stopped up & you have a garbage disposal is: Plug off the basket strainer side, fill disposal side with hot water & turn on disposal while holding down plug on other side. Sometimes the disposal will force the water through the pipes & clear the blockage. It’s worked several times for myself. I’m a service plumber in Florida.

the bellows style plungers seal kitchen sink drains almost perfectly. and I like to go with more of a short brisk plunge cycle to try to break up the clog rather than trying to push it through.
and with a disposal, as often as not, it clogs because people run small waste down it without cycling it.
but I had one time the disposal was "clogged" because someone knocked the plug off the countertop and it landed upside down in the drain. once it was covered with food residue, it was mistaken for a clog.

Garbage Disposal is the reason for logging the sewer system . It makes the pressure not to clean the P-trap , it just bring the dirty in the P-trap go to the sewer . You should clean the P-trap instead using the Garbage disposal .

  • @antoniodeleon9547
    @antoniodeleon9547 2 месяца назад

Fml, wife decided to try putting lasagna noodles down the garbage disposal as I was yelling not to do it… She got half way through before the water started coming back up both drains. The pressure created from the garbage disposal side caused water to shoot up the other side’s drain. Tried all the steps, plus my drain snake (didn’t fit through either drain). I then disassembled the drain with fun stinky pasta drain slurry all over the place. The trap was so clogged that every time I snaked it, the clog just resealed. I had to take off the trap to unclog it, thankfully no sewage gases burped up while I was doing so. Long story short, I had to disconnect and reconnect all of the pipes (including the trap), in order to get the clog. I got my hopes up for a second with baking soda and vinegar but it turned out to be a false positive 😢. It was less messy than the plunger, that was an experience…. Anyway, thank you for the recommendations, one clogged sink done!

Both my kitchen sink bowls won't drain. When I plunge the side with the disposal, water is forced up out the dishwasher air gap. When I plunge the side without the disposal, nothing happens, I don't make any progress. Is there an easy way to stop up the air gap so that the water isn't forced out of it instead of towards the clog? I'm hesitating to upen the p-trap because I did try Draino and the chemicals are all still sitting there, draining it all is going to be a challenge.

Nine times out of ten if the clogg is under the sink and not in the main line on a double sink it is in the tee of the continuous waste. There is a very small channel inside that tee Wich almost always cloggs up. Self employed Plumber 33 Year's experience in NEW YORK State

Heya Roger, thanks for this guide! :-) My bathroom sink is doing something weird for quite some time, perhaps you can shed a light on what's wrong and what I could do: It's generally draining rather slowly, running the tap on full blast will fill it up in a minute. I go at it with the plunger, just a few pushes, and it starts to drain quickly again. Once it's empty, it burps loudly, and becomes clogged up instantly again. I can repeat that as often as I like. It's almost like an air bubble gets stuck somewhere. What could that be, and is there a way to resolve that without taking the drain apart? I've been flushing with almost boiling water to take any greasy residue out, and take great care to not drop hair etc in the drain, so I have no idea what could be in there and why.

you have (or had considering its 10 months old) a clog. More than likely its comprised of hair, soap and other bathroom based misc stuff. Youre gonna need a drain snake since at this point, its likely stuck along the path and is narrowing the pipe thus slowing the draining process.

Before we start, do we shut off the water valve?

What do you do if someone glued all of your under-sink plumbing together? Is there a plumber hit-man hotline?
My p-trap is literally glued to both the discharge arm and the riser. FML.

What if you run the water on full and it takes a minute or two to plug (back up) that’s bad huh? It means the clog is further down the system. And the last resort is snaking the damn thing. Correcto?

    Step one.
Don't pour animal fat down the sink.
If you do, call me the maintenance man and lie about doing so.

Working on this issue as I type. All piping is clean no debris. Appears to be wall drain issy. I used a drain stick in wall drain and it went in and out without issue.
If the issue is the wall drain would other sinks start backing up?
Next step is to call a plumber.

Same issue. Tried a 15 foot drain snake with no problems... now do i get a 30 footer or longer or just call a plumber? By the timw i buy a longer snake thats about the same cost as 1hr from a plumber.

We got both clogged, tried everything, but nothing has worked so far. We removed the pipes under sink, and water flowed freely from both sinks, so we think that the plug must be past the wall. Snake could only go in up to 16 inches past the wall.
I guess we have no choice but to call a plumber.

What about if you don't have a garbage disposal

But my p-trap looks different than that setup. It’s sitting on the board and the pipes are at the back of the disposal.
