I too thought Mayer would play it like glen did. Because I've seen john kind of upstage other great players when he is on stage with them . But interesting that he didnt tackle glens solo ! To me it just shows the ease at which glen did enormous things with his guitars . And if you fail ,you prolly fail big trying to do glen ! Respect to all . R I P Mr Cambell !
@@Alundrahs we are all waiting ... post it . And put yourself amongst the legends ! Or just be quite while we pay tribute to somebody who touched us all .
Decent cover, vocally. Can't hold a candle to Glen's guitar prowess. One who can is Molly Tuttle. There are a few RUclips vids of her doing it right. Worth a search.
@@christian_uu good point. I am an old finger style folk guitarist who did not really appreciate Glen Campbell when I was young. For one thing he was a flatpicker and I was into folk music fingerpicking and for another thing he was so glossy and commercial. As I got older, I began to appreciate other genres and styles, and I discovered how good people like Noki Edwards was. And I discovered that the flat pickers can actually pick also. But I especially became Tran by Glen Campbell’s incredible musicianship and how he could fit in so many notes in a fill that were just perfect and ended right at the moment he sang the next syllable. And in difficult keys and inversions. I was gobsmacked. I also felt that he tried desperately to be a good person. And in the end he succeeded. I’m not a big rock blues fan. So John Mayer isn’t my cup of tea to begin with. He seems kind of disinterested. Aloof. Anyway, I didn’t realize what you said. I have listened to Glen Campbell play this 100 times and each time I am thrilled. For me, his playing was perfection. I watch people play this thing in the key of C. The song was made for the key of D Glen Campbell knew that and played it in the key of D not because it was easier but because that’s where it sounds the best. I used to play it in the key of the finger style. Naturally, without the brilliant runs. Hartford did not play in the key of D. actually he played it on the banjo!
Glen would be proud! John did a GREAT job on this cover !!! RIP Glen Campbell ..
I saw this live, it was one of the most visually pleasing concerts I’ve ever seen lol
this was absolutely beautiful. well done john. truly well done.
love this song and love that John is doing a tribute to Glenn Campbell.
Mr. Hartford left his mark for generations
Great job Mr Mayer
I was waiting for John to say, "I'll play one" then rip into Glenn's guitar break...
Not many people on this Earth can tackle that guitar solo with the speed and precision that Glen Campbell did. R.I.P.🙏

thanks for this.
Love this ❤
Nice gesture......classy
He did the song justice... I like
John gets it. His audience could care less.
WS3RD that’s cause he sucked the life out of that song. I play it way better than that. So disappointing. You people think anything is good music
@@Alundrahs Why don't you post a cover then, big guy

Whether he played or sung it well is not the point. It was a tribute to glen
Exactly
@2:09 dave matthews' little brother. river matthews.
I don’t blame him! (For fingerpicking it and not taking a break).
All of you know that
John Hartford wrote this song
Glen just paid him royalties
R.I.P. John Hartford

Wow he destroyed that song. You people are nuts
I LOVE john mayer but this was a really poor performance from him of one of my all time favourite songs
That was decidedly mediocre. Dull accompaniment and no break.
this was an homage at a concert, not even purposefully meant to shared on this platform ON the day of his passing. You're really asking for a lot.

Not doing such a good job. Just repeating same clunky finger style comping. No break. Disappointing. And revealing.
WTH is he playing on guitar This sucks
