  • Shouts and even team talks can be really frustrating in Football Manager 2024, so this video looks at how you can keep your players in the right frame of mind via touchline shouts and team talks!

For the most part I have good pre-game/half time, sub talk “system”. If you’re presented with the option to say "The media have given you a lot of credit......" take it. I get the most consistent positive reactions from the players on that one. Of course, there are special “events” like derby games or playing a team that beat you previously talks that are very effective too. Also, remember to follow-up with individual talks with players who either didn’t respond or had a negative response. Pregame I always keep the individual talk positive. Half time talks are a little different but generally I get pretty good responses with just a couple of choices. Generally, If we are winning I will praise, usually saying something about the number of shots or our possession for the team talk or following up with players who didn’t respond to the team talk by saying I have faith in them or something like that. If we are tied or losing, I will criticize. Doesn't matter if we're a minnow playing a giant....Usually saying something about not being happy, and then following up with players who haven’t responded with individual talks…generally also criticizing the player. Believe it or not most of time this will get a positive response. One exception is if we're a giant playing a minnow and we're up by 1...I criticize. Works great 99% of the time. Half time talks I don't really consider club status, but post game I will...ie., if we're a minnow but tied a giant I'll praise. Sub talks I generally will say I have faith in them or I want the to see the game out, depending on the game situation. Sideline shouts in my experience can be a crap shoot. I don’t have any type of system for them at all.

I will only do the team shout if the general performance is heading one way or the other.
Encourage if its 0-0 or we go 1-0 down in a close game. Never encourage when winning. Demand more if we should be doing better.
I watch for individual play, if someone does something good, a bit of praise, they do something bad, focus. If the mistake leads directly to a goal, a bad pass etc., I berate.
If a striker misses an early chance, I encourage.
    Never found fire up useful.

Nice to see a discussion around shouts. I have many superstitions that I am not sure if they are backed up really or not.
    From my anecdotal experience:
    - Praise boosts morale but increases potential complacency. I used to consistently praise when two goals or more up but found that we would concede silly goals soon after. I tend to only use it now when we are overperforming and to boost confidence.
    - Fire up boosts workrate and determination but also boosts aggression. I use it when we are being outplayed by much lesser opposition when I can see complacency is an issue. I often see red cards follow however.
    - Encourage boosts morale but requires the team to be underachieving. I only use this when the team is performing well but simply doesn't have the goals to show for it or they've been robbed by a wondergoal for example.
    - Focus reduces complacency but I still have no idea when it does and doesn't work. I will use it as a team shout when the majority of the team is complacent but it yields mixed results. I tend to use it as an individual shout for this reason.

great points, and especially with focus - that one is so up in the air. I always use it when my team is up and happy but makes a bad mistake or something, and the red faces always make me laugh... but it seems to work

@@theavgdad Yeah I agree there. I often get a "bad" red response but manage to maintain a clean sheet.
It's amazing how much guesswork there is in football manager - we all seem to have created our own confirmation bias haha

Once again great video! I would love to see a series where you take clubs that are struggling IRL and implement your tactics and rebuild that club. Show full seasons and transfers etc. I think it would get good views
PS I know you’re a Liverpool fan but do a Man Utd rebuild pls haha

Great idea! :) it's kinda why I've used Valencia on these last few vids, but I guess I could go for a couple of full rebuilds.
Man Utd though... that would take a lot of persuasion or a lot of booze! I managed them once for lols in FM08 or something and played a 1-4-5 with C.Ron as a lone centreback. Somehow actually won a couple of games, the bugger used to win so many headers and intercept lots!

I'm amazed you don't know Sergi Canos as well as I'd thought! Liverpool product, but was at Barcelona for a few years before moving to Liverpool academy. Got promoted with Brentford, scored their first premier league goal, and scored against Liverpool.

woof, good info there! I had absolutely no idea he was in the Liverpool academy, or even at Brentford. Although I do tend to admit that I blank goals that go against Liverpool, they never happened - trauma response! Thank you for the info on him!!

I have noticed your personal relationship allows you to be more demanding and inspiring to your players. For example in my current save all the young players hold the very best opinion of me so I can be more demanding/inspiring and they are motivated when I sub them on. The same speech to newer signing and older pros who you have a more distant relationship will have no effect/blank expression as they exact same speech you gave to the High opinion players. I don't know if this is a real game mechanic or my imagination. Enjoyed the video but always feel like I am using the same 2 shouts

Please make a video on how to manage big clubs. I know , some people might say that it is the easiest one. But I say it is the hardest one. Because if we are managing big clubs such as Man City, we must win almost all games.

I wonder if the recommendations made by he assistant manager rely on their personality and media handling.... My ast.managers also usually have a "go to" speech which they constantly suggest even if it seems to be not making any sense.
Their motivation attribute is of course important but i wonder if -for example- a media friendly assistant is more biased towards the speeches that include "the media has given you a lot o credit lately" etc.
Whereas a level headed one might not show much emoıtion and suggest more straight forward options.
Never tested it but I will be checking those from now on.

It is unreal. Often times AI keeps playing even your players are injured and laying on the pitch, and AI will score because whoever that supposed to defend or track back are injured…

haha, it's like... Darwin Nunez in front of goal. To let an opportunity slip, basically, fail to handle the pressure, that kind of thing
