  • Hi guys, I've been playing fire mage on beta a lot lately and actually love the build I've come up with. Just making a video to share it and talk a little bit about it's strengths, weaknesses and current issues.

    Hi guys; a lot has changed since I made this video, and also not really at the same time. Fire mage is in a really bad spot right now. Sadly we did not get any buffs that were significant enough to bump us up to relevancy, even in high keys where we exceled before. I would say stay off fire for this patch until further tuning changes happen. It's too difficult to play around for the lackluster damage it provides.

    Couldn’t agree more, ran mid to high keys with ww & fury. They were dropping packs faster & easier while I was building stacks for rotation. Net low dps running M+ build; leveled out on raid build. Frost had no issues

    Generally speaking, it seems like fire tree is too preoccupied with how Pyro behaves than offering you Ez, effective ways to aoe. Flamestrike either needs to be instant cast or increase its damage so it feels good to press. The single target aoe build is also too weak and needs more damage or faster ramp up.
    Fire mage should be able to aoe easiest above all other specs but it’s actually the most involved.

    If i look all 3 mage specs and compare it to WW or Fury or Lock....it feels like the whole class needs a rework.

    Completely agree on skb duration. I can't think of a reason why it has a limited time and doesn't just persist the same way arcane harmony does.
    And the sad part is if you ask this question to rly good mage players "would you like skb to last forever", they just give a weird handwavey answer. It's as if they can only see what's in front of them and never zoom out for a bigger picture, even though they can actually play very well
    And the flamestrike stuff still being the way it is just makes no sense. It conflicts with ignite in a similar space, and is annoying to play because it doesnt proc heating up.
    I'd even say repurpose flamestrike to be a short cast time heating up generator on 3+ targets (garantee heating up if ot hits 3+ targets or smth) and repurpose living bomb to a cool ignite spreader/amplifier
    But then this doesnt take care of creating a spread aoe damage profile, and it further exacerbates what is already a spec that has so much guaranteed crits in it that crit stat is almost useless, soo ye idk i guess

      For sure. The thing is when you're playing with a premade group and you're experienced together the proc duration isn't really an issue it's just so bad when you're pugging with less experienced tanks when so much of your dmg comes from SKB, and lacking an SKB and combust basically makes you do tank dmg

I'm just repeating what you said here but to spell it out to whoever sees this, this design of skb just creates moments in your gameplay where you have to make a quick decision whether you keep dps uptime (whether in raid or when pulling new packs in dungeons) vs following pace and instructions, where sometimes you see the benefit of just keeping stacks up and pulling more and its frustrating when you cant.
      During active dps time this makes no difference anyways, but in between it potentially not only leaves you with no damage (exacerbated by the fact that because of so much guaranteed crits now, and the tier set, you probably wont need any crit stat, so building 8 stacks from scratch will take forever) but also frustrated because you could have done it better had you been allowed to cast spells 2 seconds earlier

    Yes, it flows good only with chain pulling so your SKB doesn't fall off. Playing without SKB is not viable. Playing in any other manner, where you don't have a constant income of targets is lackluster both in terms of the low damage as well as the feeling of play.
    Not to mention the entire design of the Flamestrike talents, it's just senseless.

    May i ask why we dont take meteor, it seems so free? instead of another no-dps point in the mage tree, also i cant imagine that the 50% reduced combustion talent can ever be worth taking purely to save 30% cast time on pyroclasm procs?

      Regarding tempered flames, I was just playing around with it, but honestly it felt kinda nice. Probably not better tho. Especially in Keys, difference is probably a lot smaller in raid.
      Meteor is just a really weak capstone, and it competes with time anomaly and shifting power

    Many times I have ended a pack with 7 stacks of SKB + a hotstreak, and halfway to the next pack, just launch a flamestrike on nothing to chain the buff lol.

    So sick and tired of seeing imbalanced hybrid classes like Druid’s and monks completely over taking dps icons like a fire mage….please bring back the hybrid tax too.

      so waht? non tnak monks stil lget 1hits, nonhealers still cant heal shit, non dps (wont be top dps even though bm does some good dmg)
      have you seen a feral tahts tanky? nope MoP killed it. no tanky kittys, cant heal shit besides a hardcasted WG that costs some dps while probably still wont do enough to call it worth it. a boomie wont tank either.
      hybrid classes have maybe some cool utility likea wg between packs, bearform for some mechanics, but by far arent insane.
      ups fire mage isnt top1, frost well i dont like the spec, never played it but it has no charm to me and well arcane is the feral of the mage specs without the rework feral got.
      let druid dps shine. esp feral. they suffered a lot. they lost st for aoe. seing firemages to twice the aoe dps and same st hurts a lot. now they arent top notch. sorry but who cares. yes its not that fun if the spec struggles but you still have the same core.
      you probably dont want a rework that may fuck up the spec i guess.
      and tbh. pugging is terrifieing anyways. i play disc, i know the horror show

    So u want to have Combust all the time rdy for u , essentialy bcz of puging on fire mage , well ye me too but thats not happening and yes puging on Fire Mage is mad strugle.

      Playing Fire Mage on anything that's not a boss or chain pulls is a struggle. If Arcane Harmony stacks can be permanent why SKB can't be?
