My first car after passing my driving test in 1972 , had a hell of a job to get insurance for it being only 18 , swapped it to get a motorbike, still regret doing that even now 50 years later , loved that car , 😭😭 mine was the same colour as yours aswell, your vlog brought back many memories of that car , really enjoyed it .👍👍

Looking good, I'm sure it'll come back painted in the right shade. I don't think you could get a better fit than that, it looks perfect. Always thought the script badges were stick on, that's put me off as my Mk1 boot lid is completely smooth and I wouldn't want to drill holes in it! With thanks to your help in the comments of another video, I got P700s from Huddersfield Spares, they are fitted and looking fantastic.

Great work, never liked the boot mounted spot light, ok on a full on rally replica but always thought they look out of place on an otherwise standard car, looks so much better without the roundels too. Stunning car mate, was into Mini's years ago, highlight was a 72 Mk3 with a 1380 Swiftune motor, Cooper S discs and 10" Minilights, always wanted a Mk1 S, i remember when you could buy a nice one for about 14K (and 998 Coopers were 7-8K), they are dream cars now.

My goodness Alex, your Cooper S is so beautiful it’s a level above Rolls Royce or Bentley as far as I’m concerned. It also has the great advantage of appreciating in value all of the time, (unlike the above two mentioned)....Providing you can afford it, I wouldn’t worry what you need to spend on it buddy, it couldn’t be in better hands! • @johndavey72

Alex. Well done on the badge. It's very common for the threaded studs to come out . Put 2 nuts on the stud tighten the nuts against each other and then refit the stud and use the top nut to snug up the stud then simply undo the nuts and ....job done ! If you do get new hinges remember the early hinges are different to the later type. Regarding the plastic badge clips . They are called "thimble" clips . Ask your grandma she'll tell you what a thimble is ! (Used for protecting your finger when sewing) . Instead of trying to pull out the thimble clips , give them a lube and pull them through from the back. It works about 70% of the time. Finally , with reference to the boot gap, if you take a small (but not silly small!) hammer that has a bit of weight gently but firmly tap the tight edge and it will flatten out and give you the gap you need . However you will see that the dressed edge is "wider" where it is flattened . Just get a file and dress back the flattened edge until it's the same width as the rest of the boot edge . Hope this helps . If you think that boot is expensive a boot lid for an "e"type roadster is £1800 ! A bonnet is a staggering £10,000.00p ! And then you can spend 2 to 3 weeks getting it to fit !😨😨😨 I 'm sure that the boot will match spot on !

Great job. I'd be inclined to source the small period Lucus reverse lamp that fits under the bumper. These lamps were standard on the BMC Vanden Plas ADO16 1100. The lamp looks discreet and you already have the gearbox switch and wiring in situ.

I think it looks better without the light. I hope you have better luck with the new seal. My replacement was a nightmare. I had to add spacers at the hinges & leave the catch loose. I gradually worked it back & get it to close but, I still have the packing at the hinge! Maybe you can show me how to do it properly.

Looks like a nice job you've done, but if that's a MK 1 looks like you've got the larger rear window of the MK 2....was that a new rear panel fitted in your restoration or a weird changeover transition anomaly dating from production ?

    • @Dagowly83
