I agree. Doing these mob votes is a sure fire way to disappoint roughly 66% of the community. It sows division, allows for large amounts of toxicity, and just overall pulls the community apart
Glad to see the messiah himself agrees with me, I strongly believe that Mojang has ways to work around all of these without removing the mob vote itself outright.

More than 66% since it also disappoints those who don't like any of the choices.
If the mobs came back in future updates that would be nice just like the biome votes (i just want moobloom and hovering inferno)
with how much stuff has been "considered for a future update" it feels like we could have a whole one, two, or even three updates just adding all the broken promises from over the years

I'll be honest, 90% of my reason not voting ice-ologer is the phantom, I don't trust Mojang to make an actually good hostile mob from the votes. They'd just make them annoyances and let the community blame the people that voted it in the first place. So, I picked the passive but potentially useful mob; glow squid.

I don't know why they go through the trouble of designing, modeling, and programming 3 different unique jobs that would all make great additions to the game only to throw 2 out
Are they actually designed, modeled and programmed? Their designs are very basic, so you can argue they're designed, but most of the chosen mobs have gone through several redesigns and retextures (like the phantom). They're good concepts, but I'm sure Mojang has already scrapped many good concepts throughout the years

I didn't even vote on the last mob vote anymore. It was way too unclear what the mobs even did and what they were good for. They all sounded like you'd interact with them 2-3 times and then forget they existed. I refuse to vote with low information, because this gave us the phantom.

They really should just do 2 things imo
A: As you stated, make the mob vote decide the ORDER that the mobs are added rather than what to add
B: Make the mob votes more than just mobs, let us vote on more wacky things like what the next big update is about, such as that experimental combat update.
U mean the one that lessens attack reach instead of attack strength the faster u hit something?
@@HURR_EMERALDS There was a build where weapon not only had differing attack speed and damage, but reach as well, and a much more intuitive interaction with shields, it also had some new enchantments iirc and generally had more interesting combat, and introduced auto swing, but you would get higher damage from timing it as the swing would happen a frame or so before the increase damage indicator, but iirc the stronger attack also had slightly increased range in that build on top of the damage? But I haven't checked in for a while

@@zulika6 there are other parts of the game that need updates on way more than the End. this is why i disagree with OP's opinion that major updates should be voted. people would just vote what's "cool-sounding" rather than what's actually good
copper golem wouldve been game changing for redstone, it wouldve also added more functionality to copper, other than it being a metal that turns blue-green after a while.
I think randomizers already exist for redstone, but I do agree that it would be much cooler for contraptions if they had a little copper button masher in em

I have never seen a video that I relate to so much. Mojang needs to listen to the community more and I feel like that’s another problem. If they listened to our opinions, Minecraft would be a much better game than it is now. Not saying it is not an amazing game already, I just feel that they could make it even better if they just listened.
Glad to hear that someone shares the same sentiment as I do. There are certain times where I feel like Mojang needs to listen to the community but they don't, examples of these are the combat update, the mob vote and the infamous chat reporting system.
All we can hope do is hope they change their ways.
I feel as if instead of having to choose 1 out of 3 mobs to be added, Mojang should instead allow players to vote on whether a mob should be added or not. As in instead of choosing one mob over the other like we usually get, give the players the option to pick yes or no on a certain mob idea.

The thing is; when a game is going in a good direction, the most vocal opinions are people who want it to go "their way", everyone else is busy having fun, so the vocal minority gets their way. Then once a shitty change is implemented the rest of us are like "but we never wanted this, can we at least have an option to disable it ourselves?" (no. no we cant).
It always amazes me that either one person or a small group of people can create a mod that adds all or most mobs from votes within a day or two, meanwhile mojang only adds one and it takes like 6 months. I don't see a reason they can't just add all at once, or at least include them in a future update.
It requires much more thought than mods. Mojang is making something that will affect tens of millions of players while mods only make something that will affect the people who install it, and even then if it negatively affects the people installing it they can just uninstall.
@@RotmgTrollerFan Mojang also has dozens of full time programmers. The hardest part about making Minecraft updates isn't the programming, it's more the coming up with ideas and how to smoothly integrate them into the game part
@@RotmgTrollerFan That’s not really an issue. If they added a new realm, people getting upset would be idiots because they can just not go there. If they add new passive mobs, the people can just ignore them, etc etc. especially when the majority of players would rather have more features, than dull boring mobs that have no reason to exist.
Mojang has ro develop for two distinct platforms with different coding languages, they actually design and conceptualize the mobs, and their implementations are generally less buggy and more thought-out.

If a new dimension were completely optional but the gameplay suck and was at odds with the game’s spirit, it should be slammed, period.
I always thought that if Mojang has a good idea for a mob that will objectively make the game better, then they should just add it into the game and bypass the mob vote altogether. They are the creators of the game, they decide its fate.
Throwing lost mobs is really a bad idea. If the mobs are similarly good, then it will just make most people sad; if one mob is overwhelmingly better than others (just like sniffer for this time), the vote itself is meanless

I am still angry that the sniffer won the mob vote, like overwhelmingly angry. All he offered was digging up flowers, that’s it. The rascal added a fun mechanic that rewarded you for playing with it. A pretty good reward too, it allowed you to stay underground for so much longer and could save you from all of your pickaxes breaking.
I have a idea : in the mob and biome votes mojang will make a special Snapshot when theres every mob or biome and the players will test it and after vote and in the real update mojang will add only the mob or biome that has the most votes and the others are still playable in the special Snapshot .

I think they should have a loser bracket. Every other year they bring back the ones that lost and you can vote on which two gets added so the list doesn't get too long. This also opens up the opportunity for team lineups. So you could do something like the creepy watchers (glare/rascal) vers golemancy (tuff/copper) and whatever team wins those two get added.
This will give them an additional year to fully fleshed-out the next mobs they want to add and will have a lot lower of a chance to make a majority of the community feel left out.

a year later, we are on the next mob vote. the same rules apply.. the crab is such a better implementation in terms of the other two when in concept with the others. it isnt fair for the other mobs, like the armadillo which has a cool concept but the mob is just so limited. im glad to see the evolving backlash against mojang for this yet again
mojang should occasionally do a throwback vote where they take all the previous mobs that lost and allow the community to pick maybe 1 or 2 to be added.
and by occasionally i mean every 3-5 years. maybe not even occasionally, only when it feels right, heck maybe only once.
This echoes exactly what I’ve been thinking the whole time. The mob votes are great for the ideas they bring, but it’s a crime to see most of it thrown away with no promise we’ll ever see it again. Just like with the updates practically… am I right?

Well this years mob vote is actually quite split, crabs extend reach which is what we've needed for awhile, Amadillos give wolf armour which the community has very much wanted, and penguins make your boat faster, which is just way more useful then the dolphins grace

totally agree. one thing that I don't like about today's Minecraft is how existing Worlds get updated. for me it's affected the space i played in and the are definite signs of changes in terrain that didn't use to be there at all.

Changes in already generated terrain sounds like A bug that should be reported to Mojang...

So tbh I think Mojang has definitely started trying to rework the ideas from earlier votes. It's slow, but it's definitely happening to some extent. The Swamp update from the 2019 biome vote being the most obvious example.
From the 2017 mob vote, the squid creature that sucks people into the water was used as the inspiration for the magma blocks that create the downward bubble columns in the oceans. The trapinch looking mob with the ability to consume enchantments was reworked into the grindstone. The shielded Blaze is in minecraft dungeons, and I think they're still planning to rework that into some game mechanic in the future.

It's good to know that they're beginning to rework ideas of previous votes, in fact one of the reasons why I exclusively criticised mob votes in this video is because Mojang updated Swamps and presumably will rework Deserts in 1.20, both of which having lost a biome vote before.
I'm also happy to know that they changed the trapinch into the grindstone, that was a rather intuitive way of reworking it into a game mechanic, but I'm still rather disappointed that the squid creature never became a mob itself since the ocean doesn't really have a variety of mobs to fight other than drowned and guardians.
However, this gives me some hope at least that they'll be bringing the blaze boss in the future and potentially the other losing mobs as well.

They should have had a new mob every vote with the other 2 rolling over each time. They don’t have to create 3 different mobs knowing 2 will never be added. Also they DEFINITELY know that having 3 instead of 2 means that unless it’s a landslide more than 50% don’t get what they want.

Wildfire would've been a great mini boss in the nether, although speedrunners might disagree. For me, I don't care about the 2020 mob vote, I'd probably go for Moo bloom because it'd probably be a good way to farm yellow dye. The copper golem would be so good for redstone and would give copper an actual use, they can also be used as decorations when they oxidised. Rascal would've been so useful in caves while Tuff Golem would've been a great decoration. To anyone that think Tuff Golem is just a walking item frame, just remember, the Sniffer gave us 2 decorative plants.

Wildfire got done dirty; It was finally a chance for a new thing added to nether fortresses since wither skeletons, and we got phantoms, a previously overpowered and mechanically broken mob over-nerfed into being purely annoying. Love both of the mobs and their designs but if there's something wrong with a mob, it needs to get fixed right asap or risk leaving a permanent ripple of damage when people simply get used to it being a negative part of the game
Now that we have the sniffer in the game it's just a long side quest to get two boring flowers and a noisy hill.

DaVinci Resolve my friend! I'm using a really rundown 4 year old laptop to edit my videos so I didn't want to buy Premiere Pro if my computer couldn't handle it and then I just got used to it.

Maybe instead of a mob vote, they could do an community idea contest every update with a different theme? And instead of just adding the top voted one, they could add the top 3 or something.
Biome votes where better as they still came or might come to the game (example: swamp biome update after they lost to the mountain biome)

Yeah, I've never liked mobvote because before, most mobs were added to solve a specific issue or add a specific interesting feature. Mobvote adds mobs just to add them first, utility comes as a far second.

let's not forget about the illusioner!!
Even if iceologer did win, which it probably would have, glow squid fans would have been really close (due to how many people voted in comparison to how many dream subs there are) which would still have upset an almost as large community who are more into aesthetics then gameplay, which is valid. So even if it was best case scenario, the majority of players would STILL be upset. So yes mobs have to be more similar in either usefulness or aesthetic appeal. You can’t really mix those without isolating peeps

I do have an idea to fix the Glow Squid. Give it hypnosis, so players that look directly at it lose control.
Make it a challenge to get that ink.

I have to agree making it to where a sandbox game like Minecraft having it to wear features get voted upon by the players with the other features disappearing and never getting added as a terrible terrible idea
Now something I couldn't make sense is if whenever people voted on it decided the order in which specific things would get added or even if the voting took place with player-made content being added
But realistically the Mambo as it is is extremely flawed most people haven't just stopped going to the mob vote at this point

I agree that they should bring back the old mobs in the mob votes. I actually was okay with the glow squid because of the glow item frame and glow sign. I think they were good additions to the game. I would like the iceolliger to be brought to Minecraft in the future.

I've never heard of anyone complaining about the one time they had us vote on the next biome. We still haven't gotten merecats, but we got frogs. Imo the mob votes should just be what animal they should add next.
a 33-33-33 split is likely much more difficult than it seems, have you seen splatoon 3's splatfests?? some are super skewed. Team sweet is a prime example.
I will say with the updates we got to swamps I think we have a good idea that Mojang is at least considering adding things that lost the vote outside of the first two mob votes.

It would be cool if hostile mobs were occasionally added to the options. We don't have enough hostile mobs, so PVE gets pretty stale quickly.

Soo not to be the modded player but there's absolutely mods that add in the rejected mobvote mobs.

I'm well aware that there are mods that add in the losing mobs, however I think those mods should further prove that Mojang is capable of adding more than 1 mob into vanilla Minecraft if they wanted to.

I excluded them since they were more of the Biome Votes, rather than the Mob Votes.
They seem to add the losers from the biome votes so I just question why can't they do the same for the mob votes y'know? The Blaze Boss would've been perfect for the Nether update, The iceologer and other mobs had several updates to be considered and they are still exclude to this day, hence why I say I don't wanna get my hopes up.
tbf idk if they can make that many new mobs. I know 600 isn't a small number but compared to companies who would put out similar amounts of content have way more
I didn't participate in the first one, however I voted for the glow squid (No, I was not following dream, I just love squids and was excited at the idea of an aquarium with a little more variety. To this day, no regrets. Glow ink sacs are really cool, and I love glow squids. Though, in hindsight, all three of them would'vebeen really cool additions, especially iceologer.), then the copper golem (I passionately wanted it in the game, I thought it could be a nice way to give more of a purpose to copper and add more potential to redstone. I was pretty disappointed when the allay won, because it looks nice, but is practically useless otherwise. I foresaw it being a lot less useful than it looked like it was going to be, and heck, I even made a video about it back then using my very underdeveloped and super amateur animation skills. Somehow, it turned out even more useless than I perdicted.) I didn't feel strongly twords any options on the next vote, though I did end up voting for the Tuff golem. (I love the sniffer, think it is cute and nice addition to the game. Like I said, I wasn’t passionate twords any options. It didn't help that the sniffer clearly was going to be the winner.)
So, that's my history with it. It is super silly to just scrap the ideas because the community wanted something else more.
Now we have phantoms that people either never see and/or hate with a passion, a squid which makes me personally happy, but a load more people unhappy and has very niche uses, a rare mob that can only be used in a very few cases relating to a niche, which are somehow niche even within that niche, and a mob that is very cute, but somewhat rare and only useful for getting very
nice looking flowers, which a lot won't care for. (Though generally, I think most people can get behind the sniffer the most, it doesn't look like it does more than it lets on, doesn't make the game worse, and didn't snub a different mob that a lot of people cared for.)

tbh minecraft was struggling quite a lot recently
1.16.5 was great, but then 1.17 was scuffed, 1.18 hurt the performance even more... as if they couldn't clean up the mess they left after releasing 1.13, 1.19 was the mild update, warden is just a 1-off, swamps are only gonna interrupt on your way, maybe swift sneak is okay for general use, but for example frogs don't do anything besides making alternate sea lanterns, and those are stupidly awkward to farm, chest boats are also interesting, but only useful in early game, once you get settle down, it's pretty much useless, 1.20 is also in a questionable state right now
all i want to say is that updates don't really improve the game at this point, those are just random junk that don't really affect the game too much, only a few more items to clutter your inventory, but there's not much innovation, even OPTIONAL features don't get added, just like crafting some functional blocks, when they alr enforce annoying things on you like random raids, phantoms, creepers giving back just 1/3 of the blocks...

The first mob vote was the only one to permanently disqualify the other options from being added. They've said that the later ones just end up back into the idea book to be added in later updates that would suit them.
See that's the thing though, they've *said* they'll add it later but none of them have been added yet, which gives me reasonable doubt that they'll go through with it y'know?
mob vote has been a thing since 2017, we are in 2023 and your argument is "they said they would do so"?. Even trusting their words, it's past time already

Mojang should've added equals to each candidate mobs
Like for example Tuff Golem, other than holding an item for you it also can protecting your items from hostile mobs or explosion and they can interact with iron golem and give each other a flower. Sometimes, if you order them properly, they can placing an item that you want to.
Rascal - other than able to gives you useful item, it can also be your companion for mining by taming them with golds. They can help you with handling hostile mobs and helping you mining through the mineshaft, but they can't go outside because sunlight can killing them.
Sniffer - Other than just sniffing around and finding seeds, they're rideable like pig, Sniffer loves torchflower so you can only ride it when using fishing rod with torchflower(i forgot that item's name). Their sharp nose able to detect hidden chest or buried treasure. They're enemies with Glare for some reason, they're not attacking each other but just keeping distance between each other.

to help, they should probably make themes like: Pets. Example, maybe a silent eagle, enderstare and gold trap. all of them are tameable, but all of them wont be easy.
silent eagle is a flying overworld mob that flies around, searching for prey. It strikes down mobs like chickens and bunnies. However, if it sees a player near its target, it will instead attack the player(it is a neutral mob) the only way to tame it is at certain time of day, it is sleeping. Once tamed, they can fly around you, and you can tell it to target specific mobs and brings its loot to you. Maybe to tame it requires some random meat, or just a new like bird feed idk. imagine it as an eagle but is mostly black with green eyes. the lower part of its body is gray though. oh and it has yellow eyes once tamed.
enderstare, like silent eagles, are neautral mobs that also hates endermites. they often is found at the end, but can sometimes be found in the warped forest and the overworld at night. It hates being too close. anything thats close to it, it will stare at it which will cause damage and debuffs like slowness. the only way to tame it is to spawn an endermite and hold it with a lead, so the owner of the lead becomes the owner.(idk if endermites can be leashed, but if not, then pretend that you can) it looks like if a shorty enderman but is also chonky. yeah, that. but it have green eyes(just like the beta enderman) and have horns.
Lastly, nether trap. these mobs are the ones that keep piglins in check. they hide under random gold blocks that seems like a player placed it. if a player or piglin tries to get close to it, it will bite. hard. the only way to tame it is while its attacking, you must feed porkchops to it with a SUPER low chance of it being tamed. once tamed, it will follow you around.(this thing looks like a venus fly trap but covered in gold and can move around) it will scare of piglins, so you dont really have to wear gold anymore. and if a piglin is brave enough to shoot an arrow, its whole squad will be targeted. it only attacks hostile or neutral mobs(still attack pigs)

ive never really been a fan of the mob voted. only once has the mob i voted for won (the glowsquid) and it turned out so disappointing compared to how it was hyped up.
Mob vote is just killing Minecraft and Mojang's potential
If they dont bring back the losing mob, we might never see some mob with good and exciting mechanics
If they do, Mojang's reputation will surely drop not alot, but still dropping due do lying
If the copper golem is ever in another mob vote I'm going to spend 200+ hours making alt accounts to vote for it so it wins

I don’t need to see this to know why mob votes don’t work.
The mob vote is a chance for us all to come together and add something to the game. We’re given 3 choices of 3 different mobs with 3 different sets of functionality and such. So, if we choose the next mob then how is it ruined? Well let’s look at the past votes, shall we?
Phantkm: ok, we were given 4 mins to choose from, 1 for the Nether, 1 for the skies, 1 for the water, and 1 for the earth. The Phantom was chosen since the skies had 0 mobs, so the Phantom was selected; unfortunately the functionality behind it was pointless and aggravating.
Allay: the Allay was a selection that a lot of people didn’t really want but we got anyway. It brings items to you and drops them nearby; a LOT of people compared it to a hopper. So why was it chosen? It was cute, that’s why I voted for it, and it gave more lore to Illagers.
Glow Squid: we all know why we got that useless disappointment.
Sniffer: it was chosen because it was “so cute,” saddening really.
Notice the short trend? People pick what looks cute, as opposed to what works. For the Glow Squid people were mindless drones who obeyed a guy who wanted a mob that wouldn’t get in the way of a speedrun, a Glow Squid would never be seen ever during a speedrun so that’s why we have it. The Sniffer and Allay were chosen because they were cute; the Phantom was chosen because it filled a spot we didn’t yet have. The mob votes CAN be fun! But people need to stop thinking that certain way. Don’t be sheep following others, don’t say “that’s cute” no, none of that! Genuinely, think “what can this bring to Minecraft?” If you ask that question, and imagine some fun things, then we can actually get some cool mobs; an example being the Iceologer, a mob that WOULD HAVE been hostile and spawned in snowy mountains, that would’ve given reason to be careful there with the added danger of powder snow. Looks aren’t everything, if it looks great but works terribly then what was the point? And being sheep has the same ideology; why follow someone else when you’re not really happy with their choice?
The glow squid was not useless its genuinely the most use I have ever gotten from any mob vote. I only play in creative and glow squid ink is so useful for signs and makes it way better. Other stuff only “useful” in survival totally useless to me.
Sniffer may have won by 51%, but that also means 49% of people wanted something else...
If anything the top 2 should be added, or all mobs will be added eventually.

The mob votes suck, it even feels like Mojang knows this and always give 1 mob way more features which, of course, everyone picks
Mob vote wozld be better if mobs included would be very similar and differences would be minor, like putting 3 'decorative' mobs or 3 hostile mobs or animals
