Cluckingham Palace construction is in full steam! In this video, I focus on designing and building out the coop with windows, nesting boxes, and rough openings. Then, I sheathed the entire outside. Enjoy!

Man if I had the money, these videos would be the final straw to push me to get chickens 😂
Saturday + Dooffie = Ben time!!! Ben + project = Ben-ducation!! 👏👋👏❤😷
I think your doggos would benefit from getting their OSHA 10 certificate
I’m loving how this is looking so far!
The build is very interesting but the dogs are stealing the show for sure! :D
Another great, detailed video!
The dogs want a big one doghouse for them ;)
I love watching your videos I feel like I’m there
Love all your puns: "chicken coop for the soul". I'm amazed that you work without a blueprint or pattern...just think it and make it happen. Amazing!
The general plan is in my head and it all just kind of comes together
Basic size idea and some common building practices. Fudge in the rest to make it correct and viola!
@@sarinhighwind Ben makes it look so easy and you make it sound so easy. 😂
I can't imagine it being easy!
@@marybethduke3263 The magic of editing!
Honestly though, it's a bit scary for people who are not carpenters. I've been a carpenter for 20 years, it's a bit different for me.
The basic concepts get you through a lot of it. We all still make mistakes.
My little chicken hut I built has a bunch, mainly due to laziness and material I used to build it, which was all scrap/reclaim/salvaged. So some of my things didn't line up because I didn't measure anything before I started building, so... Like my roof is about 1 inch shorter than I wanted it to be. So it doesn't overhang the door and the top of the door wood is exposed now.
I dont' plan on that being the final structure, but I needed something ASAP, so that's what I built.
Ben here has a bit more effort put into his and its looking fantabulous! .. okay, the browser isn't saying I spelled a word wrong, that's kind of weird.
He had a bit more time to plan it out and get it sorted.
And a budget. My budget was... well. 0.
I had to buy 3 hinges and a clasp and some screws. Luckily I was able to get all this wood from a jobsite, but it's not enough to make a super cool structure like he's making.
I had it in my head to be more like that, but material limitations.
love the way it looks!
Tip - dont use hay or straw floors, they'll stink after a few days. I suggest using dirt, so they can also have bath's in it
To add for cleaning. put down Linoleum on the floor.
You can just scrape the turds off that make it passed your bedding and you can wash/mop it out if necessary too.
Cheers mate. =)
In a future video you’ll see my solution for protecting the floor 👍
@@BenTardif awesome. Cant wait. Need to do something for mine soon.
Ben, you're one mean building machine!
Love your videos Ben. You’re over doing on the nesting boxes. They’ll only use one or two. I know it’s too late now tho. Lol
I can't provide you any eggs. But, I might want to move in with the flock, as nice as this is looking.
This looks fire
Video is great man, but too short! Make em longer please!
Chicken Coop for the Soul 😂😭😭
TASTES LIKE CHICKEN(COOP)!
Aww you have to do a video of the chickens, I wanna know theeeem
Yes I will!
You should look into OFFTHERANCH,s chicken coop water system…
Let me get my popcorn
I'm laughing as you are being so precise in building ur nesting boxes, not realizing that two sometimes three chickens will try to get into one, just remove the partitions, lolol all chickens do this, they want to lay an egg where one is already laid as well as where one is currrently trying to be laid.
Can I buy from you Ben . I still can't do it. Cut all wood and put in box get a patent man .
You will find most of your chicks will all lay in the same nest. lol
Seems likely. They are already clumping together in the coop
@@BenTardif at least yours will go inside. Mine wanna sit outside till i push them in at night. I dont have nesting boxes yet. Need to work on that.
I wanted to build a bigger one for my chickens, but ...
It ended up being a scrap project, so its 4x8.
Lumber prices are just to excessive right now to get the sheeting and tin to make it what I want.
Full size osb sheets are insane right now. It’s already doubled from when I purchased for this coop
@@BenTardif i ended up doing leuon... i think you spell it that way, for the other project last year and its basically a 10x6 box and it cost me 650 in lumber. So insane. The chicken coup i did was built from scavanged scraps on a jobsite.
are you going to build more cubbies for them in the future since there’s only six now?
For 10 chickens 3 nest boxes would be plenty. Several hens will share one box.
Any chance you have a link for the windows? I think I might need to do a renovation for my coop :)
Here a link to what I bought

Your shop helpers seem uneducated on shop safety.
My apprentices have much to learn
I'm concerned about your dogs. They will probably be deaf in a few years if nothing changes. There is hearing protection for dogs on the market.
Or maybe just go in the beautiful dog run. I was worrying in the last video about eye protection for them too. 😢
You make it look too easy, Ben. I get tired watching you.
