Into the Radius is a Cursed VR Game

- Into the Radius makes Fallout 4 VR look so unplayable. Simply because of all the things a VR fallout game could be. Because this indie VR survival game I know nothing about, absolutely slaps. Into the Radius deserves a lot of credit for not just being a decently fun idea for a game, but also being a juggernaut of VR functionality. Virtual Reality is only just starting to live up to it's name, but wow is it really good already. Big name developers, TAKE NOTE of what this studio did. And to the developer(s) of Into the Radius, you really made a piece of art that has brought me hours of enjoyment so far.

I remember hearing the developer of BoneWorks said "Us small indie developers make breakthroughs in mechanics and then triple A devs use them"
Indie devs test them basically
@@TechnoMinarchist The dumb shortsighted insecure ones anyways, who PUBLICALLY SHARE their innovations, before incorporating them into a purchasable game!
except they don't, every AAA vr game I've bought I ended up refunding because they blow chunks compared to even a mediocre indie game. they'll never compare to games like blade and sorcery, H3VR, boneworks, etc. because they're still stuck in the wrong mindset and they don't even attempt to innovate on anything. the ONLY AAA vr game I've seen get it right is Saints and Sinners

Similar to my own journey after talking about the metro series with an online tutor.
I think I have close to 2000 hours nowadays, mostly in Anomaly with a few hundred in SOC and COC.
This is a great take from an outsiders' perspective of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series. Thanks for bringing this copy to my eyes so I can play.
But this game isn't a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game, merely S.T.A.L.K.E.R. inspired...
@@annoyingassbean3070 They were talking about habie's perspective on the game not saying it was a S.T.A.L.K.E.R game..
@@dumgrrl Hmm... very well then.
I thought that too, I was like “‘mmm vr stalker”
What’s a S.T.A.L.K.E.R game?
The problem with the rules of aviation is that bees are no god damn planes.
loL
Why are you here
Fallout VR is for the smoothest brains. True S.T.A.L.K.E.R's play into the radius, now get back into the zone marked one!
Those damn spiders freak me out, I waste so much ammo on them. Saw Hab using a knife, might try that. I use my knife on the slow walkers.
@@fen4554 If you absolutely can't get the hang of them, there's a pretty reliable tactic if you can keep your cool:
Which I'm gonna try to hide behind the "read more" thing because I think being freaked out and learning how to deal with that yourself is part of the fun. But if all else fails:
Wait for them to lunge at you and sidestep. Might have to face sideways and be prepared to sprint to get out of the way fast enough, depending on how close they are when they pounce. If they lunge from afar, you can literally just walk sideways and they'll whiff. If they miss with the lunge, they get stuck on the surface they impacted with for several seconds and you can take an easy shot, or even just walk up and shank them.
@@Roxfox I quit the game exactly at the moment i saw the first of those spider things. I was scared of the Headcrabs in Half Life Alyx but i (kinda) came over that fear (except for the poisonous ones, they are still scary as shit) but those Spiderthings scare me so much and i cant go back playing Into The Radius because of them lol
@@mwfrozen You get used to them, honest! Don't worry, that's pretty much everyone's first experience with them. I've watched numerous people's first attempts at this game, and those little creeps result in so much swearing and dropping weapons and fleeing in a panic! But they're not actually very dangerous on their own, so if you try to just think of them as an enemy to overcome, I'm sure you'll be fine! It helps, once you kill your first one, to take a closer look at them and learn what they really look like. The sheer unfamiliarity is a huge source of fear.
Haha very funny stalker, now hand over your rubles and artefacts........us Bandits won’t ask twice hehe
The best part about ITR is that the wonkiness of modern VR can simply be explained as the Zone being the Zone
As they say in S.T.A.L.K.E.R,
"There are no bugs, only anomalies"
You see, the game’s premise is great, any glitch could be written off as an in-game event
Funny thing was I playing the 2.0 beta the other day and seeing a bunch of stuff with placeholder textures, i thought "you know, that STILL fits in with the zone"
Honestly aside from getting randomly teleported once in a while, funky head to carrier tracking. Honestly this is one of the best games VR or otherwise I’ve played in a while.
I don’t know if an untextured lamp is considered a in game event
@@jzapien1377 "getting randomly teleported once in a while,"
I can't tell if you're talking about the Tide, or tracking issues.
I've put 30 hours into this game, it's great. Just to let you know, they have a massive map and gameplay overhaul in the works, it will likely release some time in the fall.
Tips: you can press and hold trigger with ammo boxes to hold the bullet in the air, same with mags. Touching a box and mag will fill the magazine. For guns with a mag eject, pressing and holding eject will have the mag stick out so you can grab it without dropping it. Last, and I bet you found this out, the hammerless break action shotguns have a button to pull back the hammer on them.
Im glad theyre actively working on this game, its already good but definitely cant just be left in its current condition
Isn't the whole point of a hammerless break action is that you don't have to manually cock the hammer though? Wild.
I think I'll leave it in my Steam wishlist a bit longer then, how well does DLSS work in this game?, No man's Sky just makes the game to blurry, unless running at a crazy high resolution that's not really possible in that game, even with an RTX 3070 and DLSS on.
@@thebillyd00 Yeah, it threw me through a bit of confusion as well.
@@trittyburd Isn't the beta for that out already?
Ah good, someone brave enough to play enough of this game to make a video. Because I am a wuss.
Get back in there, man, you'll adapt to the Radius
I second that... Would love to see you play this
Fancy seeing you here
This is easily one of the funniest, most wholesome channels I've ever found on RUclips :)
Just do what I do: memorize the sounds of the things that can kill you and ignore everything else. The devs like to put random weird creepy noises that come from nothing in random places.
7:04 "battlefield 2042 could not come faster" oh noh, sweet summer child
thinkin the same exact thing 😂
Glad you covered my favorite VR game!
Also the game is based on a Russian novel called roadside picnic and the story of ITR is pretty much some miners found something under ground witch caused the radius and you are one of the few survivers of "the event" and when you die you revive from the dead but you can't leave the zone or else you suffer a horrible a permanent death so the group responsible for studying the radius employs you and the other "changed" to assist them with there reaserch because they can't enter. The game itself takes place 15 years after the event most-all the other explorers have either vanished or left the zone in suicide you play as explorer 61 as you progress you help with reaserch while also helping Katya (the white statue girl) figure out we're she is so you can save her. When your done with the main game I'd recommend trying out the 2.0 UPDATE beta for ITR it's good.

@@anomalycenter1197 I went up it last night in the non-beta. There was a Mosin Nagant in perfect condition with a few boxes of ammo. It may be bugged, though. Habie, since you enjoyed this so much, might I recommend S.T.A.L.K.E.R Anomaly, if you haven't played it. It's not a VR game but Into the Radius is basically S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Plus there's a ton of mods)
Edit: Fuck it, play the original trilogy and Anomaly. It'll be worth it. I promise :)
I think that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly should be played after the first few original games, so that they can be appreciated.
Please no, play the base games first.
Main trilogy first, Stalker
@@malaizze You three have a point. Somehow overlooked that.
The original game is super janky and you have to adapt to it. I say this with the utmost love for S.T.A.L.K.E.R., I had the same amazing experience of perfected atmosphere as anyone who gives it a chance. But I feel it's best to warn anyone who tries to play it now.

I literally refunded this game because i couodnt get out for an hour. Youre telling me i was supposed to ignore everything with good quality and walk into the void? Not the train car or the FRONT DOOR?
you enter the radius my man.
Game literally tells you to go into the fog.
I almost returned it because of that. If the game tells you its easy to miss.
Heh.
Yeh, the only other character in the game tells you to go in to the Radius i think right when you spawn outside the base for the first time...I took that and the giant turret gun pointed at me to mean I had to go in to the fog and in to the Radius and not come back...30 hours of playtime surviving inside the Radius later...i finally learn that that is the home base where you can take missions and earn $$$ and stuff. :/
listening to this man speak so passionately about games will never get old
The base is so comfy. There’s something special about cleaning your firearms to piano music before re-organizing your supplies and eating canned pineapple.
Goal accomplished! It did brighten my day and i exhaled sharply through my nose more than a couple of times. keep it up!
I love how you find the most (kinda) underground games THAT ARE HIDDEN GEMS.
Has he talked about Cosmodread yet? Don't feel like it gets much attention and I've dumped dozens of hours into it. Feels rough when you first start playing, but once you get past the fear factor, it's an amazing rogue like where you get more powerful the more you play and die (or escape).

i think a great thing about Into the Radius is just how much it feels like you're surviving. It's one of the most immersive games for VR because it really does put you in the mindset of a survivor. great video. radius is one of the most underrated VR games, and its still getting better and better. the new 2.0 update fixes a lot of issues, and hopefully they keep polishing it so it feels more like boneworks or alyx
Making the climbing work like it does in Boneworks would make me not have a panic attack climbing tall structures. The hands floating in front of the rungs makes me hyperventilate because I'm deathly afraid of heights and it doesn't instill a lot of confidence that my VR hands are actually gripping something.. More so when it can actually kill me if I fall off. Sure, it's not real, but it says something for the immersion when my brain thinks it is lol.
You finally reviewing ITR! It's such a great underrated game, and I love it.
You really have to play it again, or continue doing so and learn the story, it is really good for an indie game and makes sense. You need to keep doing missions to progress the story.

My favorite VR game so far! The most immersed I've ever been in a game, despite all of its janky moments. And despite the fact that I hate horror games and this was constantly terrifying me. I just couldn't stop wanting to explore more, against my better judgement! I think it's because there's no deliberately horror-gamey parts, no scripted jumpscares or nasty things getting in your face out of nowhere. It's more *conceptually* terrifying, a really spooky place to be where you're on edge not because you have to anticipate a scare, but because you have no idea *what* to anticipate. In VR, that feeling becomes absolutely addictive.
You know what's exciting, though? The devs are working on a revamp of almost the entire game. New map layout, more areas, better graphics, rebalanced combat, and eventually new weapons, enemies and artifacts as well. They don't give exact dates, because it's a ridiculously small team working on this, but they're hoping to have the first part of that chunk of content out before the end of August. As someone who's already spent 40 hours crawling between anomalies and fleeing from tentacle spider monsters, I'm psyched to get back in and do it all over again with a fresh coat of paint!
Glad to see you playing the game Habie! I just got into it recently and have been loving it. Can confirm that every noise gets the blood racing when out exploring the wasteland.
My condolences on BF2042. At least Halo Infinite delivered.
This game need so much more love and exposure than it gets. Top tier VR experience, even if it lacks a story or driving plotline.
