you perfectly described the reason why I wanted to buy a camcorder. So many people have tried to reason with me saying it's the same as an iphone or a camera but just lower quality and I can't seem to put my feelings into words when I decided to have a camcorder. It was really the feels of making a core memory, living in the moment and just having fun without worrying about the technical stuff :)
what a bshit, camcorder is a crap, that is 100% true. go buy used ultrazoom point-and-shoot, use a 30fps codec, auto mode, this is a proper stuff to deal with. It will be as good as iphone 4-5, but with stab like 12 pro max
I've had a camcorder for many years, they're really perfect for capturing that early 2000's vibe and they're still in abundance so you can find a lot of them for cheap.
you doing this with a camcorder is the exact reason i got into analog photography. With your phone or a high-quality camera, you capture a copy of whats in front of you 8K resolution 120fps whatever. With an analog camera, you capture the moment you are in and burn it on a physical medium. Its just a different level of preserving memories.
Cool video!! And yes, I agreed with you. This camera is about capturing the moment right in front of you. And the vibes from the footage feels so nostalgic so it makes like a precious memory. I will get that one soon for my next project. Thank you for sharing this.
This video came at the perfect right time for me! I want to film my travels next summer but I just don't know how to film in social situations without it being awkward or taking away from the moment. I don't want to spend a lot on a tiny action cameras or change my personality to fit the vlogger stereotype. An older camera model is the way to go! Some people may hate the low quality but it actually adds something special to the shots. Amazing content, thanks for sharing! 📸
yesss, I always film everything in my life 'cause I'm a very nostalgic person, and I usually do it with my phone since I always have it with me. I love the quality of the videos I took with it because it really makes the colours pop, and the video os more stable. But two years ago I also bought a camcorder, and it was the best decision !! I use it for special occasions, like trips, and I feel like it creates a more secure atmosphere for my friends when I'm filming them ! People are more comfortable and themselves, which really is what I'm trying to capture !
Think about it: 20 years ago, no mirrorless cameras, DSLR's were even new for the market and they were not shooting any kind of video, drone were just cyberpunk future for us. And in those days we only had our camcorder. Both for fun, memories and shooting short movies etc. I am glad you had our nostalgic experience and spread this on internet!
the camcorder effect is absolutely real and ive never been able to put it into words before!!! ive been carrying a camcorder around for months after a trip to iceland and i made so many friends! everyone loves the camcorder and i think the novelty and childhood nostalgia is what makes people so excited to be on it and i think reactions like that instead of embarrassment or shying away are so much better for video anyways. if you had the best quality everything but youu could on;y take videos that people look uncomfortable in then theyre not very good pictures, but you could be filming with the worst quality camera but if its all people waving and smiling and saying hi then i think thats the best quality you can find!! plus theres a lot of good ones that have really good audio and video quality that can be a lt cheaper than other cameras of similar quality, plus camcorder bags are small and dont take much to carry and theres still space for everyday things so you only have to carry around 1 bag and you dont have to give up possible protection for the camera! i love camcorders i am so passionate about the camcorder effect they are so amazing and wonderful
Lol I feel so nostalgic watching your summer montage even though I know none of you guys 😂 it’s amazing how this camcorder can make the moments looks so pure, fun and nostalgic. I should get one 😅
man, reminds me of my own camcorder, a canon vixa hf r62. they even still sell a similar model today, the r800. the video is soft and lacking dynamic range, but the zoom is insane and its just plain fun.
bro thanks so much for the recommendation!🙏🏽 just bought the camera and im planning on using this for my bday week since im going to a concert and cruise!
Do you think nostalgia is the only reason why people are less afraid of camcorders or film photos? I personally have switched to film photography instead of iphone and I've had friends ask "Why" take a photo of them, but when I do they all pose and have a great time! I just wonder if its purely nostalgia or the negative associations we have with tech now.
i think its both. but I do believe there is negative associations with tech. If you take a photo on iphone people are instantly wanting to see and check if they look fine, plus add the social media into the mix. with film its simple and you cant see the photo. you gotta wait.
i think there's also a feeling that when someone records or photographs something with a phone, they are likely going to post it somewhere or send it to someone. i've done that a lot before honestly! someone takes a candid pic of me on their iphone and i feel the need to look at it, make sure they're not posting it to their story or sending it to anyone, take more pictures until it looks good. it takes you out of the moment and makes you feel insecure
I think camcorders capture an authenticity that feels more personal to the audience. They are what we used for our home videos and so people feel a certain nostalgia when a video is recorded with one.
Awesome video! It is nice to just strip back the thoughts about gear and just shoot on such a simple device in personal settings. This was greatly put together, and the perfect length!

i can vouch for what you said about how people switch up when they see a camcorder ( kind of ) i took a digital camera to a house party one time and left it on the kitchen counter for everyone to use, and we had so many fun pictures to look back on. personally i prefer being captured on older hardware because since the quality is "worse" it doesnt bring out every detail of my face which i dont like lol

Really enjoyed the look yours gave, did you do any editing after filming or is this straight out of the box?
I dug out my old camcorder because of this video: a few thoughts about using a camcorder: 1. its so small and light, and there's no reason to need an external mic so you can have it all in one package. goes perfect with a mini tripod but even that might not be necessary sometimes. 2. the benefit of crappy 1080p footage is the file sizes are so small and you can basically never run out of space, edit on any computer, and it takes no time to transfer files. 3. Autofocus, auto exposure, auto everything, you can just push the button and not have to worry. i guess i do wish it had like, an exposure slider, but i think this was a cheap model. basically it just means its small enough to take everywhere and you can just whip it out and press record and not worry. super fun toy to play with. the only problem is, i barely leave my house and dont do enough stuff IRL to actually have memories to film, haha. i wish i had seen this video at the start of the year, because i went on four trips and i would have filmed so much more if i brought this camcorder instead of my full frame mirrorless camera (and anamorphic setup! haha)
I used to have a little waterproof camera and I’d take pictures and record videos with it all the time. I don’t know if I even have any of that footage anymore. I recently bought a camcorder and I want to start using it more.

2. the benefit of crappy 1080p footage is the file sizes are so small and you can basically never run out of space, edit on any computer, and it takes no time to transfer files.
3. Autofocus, auto exposure, auto everything, you can just push the button and not have to worry. i guess i do wish it had like, an exposure slider, but i think this was a cheap model.
basically it just means its small enough to take everywhere and you can just whip it out and press record and not worry. super fun toy to play with.
the only problem is, i barely leave my house and dont do enough stuff IRL to actually have memories to film, haha. i wish i had seen this video at the start of the year, because i went on four trips and i would have filmed so much more if i brought this camcorder instead of my full frame mirrorless camera (and anamorphic setup! haha)
great points! still an awesome set up for that those trips though!
looks like you got to plan some new adventures!
I will be doing this when the summer comes
DO IT
Inspiring. Reminds me of all the camcorder footage I need to edit from the 90’s 🤩

What's the exact model of camcorder you used in the video?
What is the actual model used? Thanks for the video!
I dont remember and I dont have it with me right now but I know it was a JVC model!
Yes bro I'm doing the same thing. I use a jvc gr compact camera and I plan on buying this kind of camera for the same vibes. Keep up the good work 💪🤝
do it! thank you so much
I used to have a little waterproof camera and I’d take pictures and record videos with it all the time. I don’t know if I even have any of that footage anymore. I recently bought a camcorder and I want to start using it more.
use it! summer is on the way!
there is something so special about camcorder footage
