So does the new styling only appeal to Americans?? Or is it a global hit!!👇👇
Let us know if you like the looks by giving a 👍 or a 👎 with the flag of the country you're from 🇬🇧
👍🇬🇧
Looks very American from the back.
👍🇵🇭
KIA =💩💩💩💩💩💩
I own the 4 - hybrid done 1500 miles so far and it’s fantastic. Slight issues with my back on the comfort of the drivers seat but I think it’s more my back at fault. Love the hda the car drove all the way to Sheffield and back the other day and I was feeling like a passenger more than a driver!
So refreshing to see a review of a car in a base trim without absurdly large rims.
Agreed
Wow...the review is to the point and concise. Learned a lot. Now I know.
Third row good for long journeys, says Doug with his knees around his ears... ;o)
😅
Yeah I got a good laugh out of that too. He looked like a contortionist.
Lol good point
For the money and what's included as standard, this is way better than a Discovery, Audi Q5, and the Merc GLB! Had an Evoque and Disco Sport and this is 10 times better and far more reliable!
Very very good SUV.
We have our 3 rd Kia Diesel , now for 2 years a sorento 2019 awd diesel 8 speed auto and 19 inch wheels , I had many, many cars in my life ( being an ex auto engineer ) ...... this is the best and most reliable car we have and had. and excellent for the lousy NZ roads .
As an American I find it informative and often amusing to see how reviewers in Europe view vehicles we share. None more so than the new Sorento. Characterized in this video as "One of the BIGGEST SUV's on the road, the Sorento is typically viewed as among the smallest "midsize" unibody SUVS. In fact, at 189" in length it is among the smallest. It IS the smallest among 3 row SUVs in America.* The category of "large" SUVs (or as we Americans call them, ""full size" SUVs such as the Ford Expedition, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevy Suburban, etc.) shared with American consumers' first love the full size pickup. Those behemoths range up to 226" in length.
The difference extends to the interior size. Here in the US the room available in the third row is routinely criticized as being suitable only for children despite the fact that it offers more legroom than the Toyota Highlander, the best selling 3 row crossover in America. But that's a criticism leveled at nearly every "midsize" SUV available in the US where the 3rd row is routinely relegated to a space for children and in-laws. American reviewers would never say the 3rd row is "comfortable enough" for a six ft tall passenger on a long journey" (3:07). A similar difference applies to assessment of "boot" (i.e. cargo) space. The 75.5 cubic feet of overall space is quite adequate especially compared to vehicles we consider to be "compacts" but not nearly as roomy as larger midsize SUVs like the VW Atlas and KIA Telluride (neither of which, I believe, is available in Europe.) The space behind the second row is ample but again not as generous as its larger midsize rivals. The same is true of the space behind the third row where the 12.6 cubic ft is enough for a typical grocery run but not to what we call "big box" stores, (e.g. Costco) where we buy 50 gallons of mayonnaise and other "necessities.". All in all, most American consumers would consider the Sorento to be adequate for 6-7 passengers on a short local journey or for 4-5 passengers for a longer trip with luggage but not fully loaded with both passengers and luggage.
Otherwise there are a number of feature differences between the European and American versions of the Sorento. Most are minor but a few are more significant. For example, only one US spec model (the top trim X-Line) comes standard with AWD. Other trims can be optioned with AWD for an additional $2000. The exception is the hybrid version that is currently available only with FWD in the US.
Even more significant are differences in engines and power trains. The hybrid models are apparently identical in America and Europe but the base engine in the US is a 2.5L four cylinder naturally aspirated petrol mill. Not surprisingly no diesel option is available in the US.(Cheap fuel and "diesel-gate" largely eliminated diesels in passenger vehicles.) Instead, a higher performance alternative is a 2.5L turbo petrol engine with a dual clutch transmission available on upper trims. It's a version of the same engine offered on a variety of other KIA and Hyundai models including the Santa Fe, the K5 GT, the Sonata N-Line, Genesis GV-80, and G-80. The engines reflect the Americans' more narrow perspective on "performance" than Europeans. There are reasons that drag racing originated in America while rallies originated in Europe and why our version of "road racing" takes place on high banked ovals rather than on public roads in places like the Isle of Man and Monte Carlo or specially constructed circuits like the Nurburgring and Le Mans. Straight line acceleration from a standing start to 60 mph or a quarter mile are the standard and almost the only performance metrics for Americans. Personally, I find the European perspective more appealing but I'm in a minority among my fellow citizens.
Finally, there is a huge difference in the price of the Sorento in the US versus the UK. A base trim Sorento with optional AWD in the US has an Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of about $32,000. That translates to a straight currency conversion price of $54,000 for a similarly configured base trim Sorento in the UK. A fully loaded top trim US spec Sorento has an MSRP of $42,790 that amounts of a straight conversion price of over $65,000 in the UK. There are numerous reasons for such a difference in many vehicles even before taxes such as VAT vs sales tax in the US are taken into consideration. Among them is the fact that auto ownership in the US where mass transit is abysmal compared to Europe means lower cost auto ownership is a near necessity for many consumers while many middle class Europeans have little daily need for a car. That situation means the Sorento in the US competes against so-called "mainstream" midsize vehicles while in the UK the KIA competes with vehicles like the Land Rover and other brands that are considered luxury brands in the US. Europeans may well envy the automotive "bargains" we Americans consider routine. But Americans, whether they realize or not, lack alternatives and a social safety net that Europeans take for granted.
In any case, as a Sorento owner (twice) I appreciate the UK perspective of this video. Thanks again.
* The US Spec of the VW Tiguan appears to be a version of the vehicle known as the Tiguan Allspace in the UK. At 185" in length it's typically seen as a "tweener" between the US category of "compact" SUVs that range from about 179" to 182" in length and midsize crossovers the smallest of which are about 188" long. But the Allspace, the US Tiguan comes standard as a 2 row vehicle with a small third row of seats available as an option.
Thanks for the informative comparison between American and European car ownership. Was very interesting to read :).
There seems to be a lot of correlation between you're observations about car sizes and McDonalds meal sizes! A large drink in the UK is like a US kids size. US super size is obscene! Informative comment, thanks.
the sorento is so good went on a test drive with my mum and dad yesterday amazing i love it
Really nice Review, Amazing Car
Wow this guy's presentation is amazing
Important to note that the 4 trim can't be had in the diesel which is utter madness.
Wow it's, amazing I wait for the plug in hybrid
Why do we not get the option of the X line that is sold in the States??We also have to put up with the short wheelbase Sportage and no option of the Kia Carnival. Why??????
I find it very indicative of the US market when the Sorento is considered a large SUV. Even in the KIA lineup it isn’t the largest. Here in America the current SUV darlings are the Palisade and the Telluride. If you want a hybrid the best seller is the Highlander. The biggest draw, for me, for the Sorento is the hybrid option.
I didn’t realize there is a hybrid sorento with bench 2nd row seating?? Is this true in the United States? I’m in Los Angeles... I don’t want the captain style second row seating
Does the Sorento have a spare wheel and if not can one be fitted?
What’s it like for parking and driving around town?
Interesting that Kia now feel confident enough to sell a car at prices above certain competitors... Certainly many owners have come to find Kia a good choice, especially since their corporate 'rebirth' a few years ago.
I know a housing association who buys these cars where I used to live in Bradford. These cars are really well built and it's like a cheaper version of an Audi or a BMW. I've been in one myself and they're quite good cars. It also has seven years of warranty cover meaning it's a long term investment.
First they put you in the last row of seats, then they make you film in pouring rain. You’ve got to ask for a raise!
Honest reply pls
Do I get a sorrento 2021 disel k4 or get a Peugeot 5008 2023 GT disel? @whatcar
They are same price currently
today´s taxes in Denmark brings the PHEV model close to 25000 euros cheaper then an diesel. That is because of the new favoritism of EV and PHEV. So the choosing is not all that difficult :) startprice in Denmark is 57000 Euros - so i think it will become an hit
Love this car.... Love Telluride even more looks wise but its only available in the US and the engine is crazy uneconomical for the europe
How is it compared to 2021 Santa fe
X
Does car have remote drive on key fob when come out small tight spaces like new sante fe
That infotainment and trim in the front is unforgiveable. It just looks like the sort of thing you'd expect and accept from a Dacia, with it's entry level budget. Although going a size down comparing this interior to the new Tucson shows just what Kia/Hyundai are capable of for the budget and yet this is what they're presenting.
Surely for this price a BMW, Merc or audio is better value and considering the resale price? Especially as the third row is not fit for purpose unlike say a ford galaxy?
I think it is time for at least UK to let more cars in from USA to break or at least shake German car makers monopoly at the moment all German cars are rediclously overpriced the model you could afford 3 years ago new version of same model is out of your range
lol 1:52 nice one :))
If thats large then what is the suburban ?
They advertise NIVOMAT- unfortunately it doesn't work. Top glass roof stops sealing with motorway speed.
It's a nice car
This car is way bigger on the outside than the 5008 yet it has over 200l less cargo space with the seats flat... how do they do that
This or the Toyota Highlander Hybrid?
why no captains seats for the second row , as some countrys are getting.?
Captains or bench.
Looking for a good hybrid for wife thanks brother from across the pond
Another giant car for tiny British/European city roads!
I like you, Doug.
Why isn’t the Telluride and Palisade sold in the UK?
Telluride is too big for our roads.
@markyes true. It’s too big too!
Because they are pushing their luck with this car, an even bigger more expensive Kia wouldn't sell
@@oliverstemp9132 I was actually suprised that the Kia Sorento is so much more expensive in Europe than the US. Because Europe and the UK only get the top trim level
@markyes I think the UK is becoming ever more snobbish, especially when you can get a premium badge for the same price on PCP
Wow kia sorento Top up goooood
Best car for 2+3 families.
How is a Disco Sport a step up? Unless you spend serious money you get nothing of quality inside.
I'm sorry, but I wouldn't subject any 6 footer to sit in that third row. Its strictly for kids or very short adults for short rides.
Discovery might be £7k less but you'll spend that on repairs!
But it does not have 7 full size seats but rather 6,5. The Peugeot 5008 on the other hand has 7 seats. So - 5 stars???
I'm confused about the rear (middle row) seat space. The Peugeot 5008 has three individual seats in the middle row, which sounds very spacious. Yet, you seem to think that the Sorento is even more spacious, although it does not have three individual seats (?). Which car would you recommend to a family that needs to fit two adults and three children seated in children seats (age 1, 3 and 6)? For example, driver + 1 year old in front row, adult on one side + 3 year old in middle seat + 6 year old on the side.

Why do you compare Sorento to Skoda Kodiaq? I think it needs to be compared to Audi Q7 or Volkswagen Touareg in terms of size. It is the cheapest carin it's class.
No, Sorento = Q5 or Tiguan respectively.
Getting famous off of comments day 226, so I can live the dream, live every day like it’s your last🤙🤙
Very good value when you consider the cost of the overpriced Renault engined Mercedes alternative.
This is a comment about your short car of the year videos, and what they show of the What Car team. Don't you think that your reviews would be better informed and more relevant to a wide audience if they were undertaken by a more diverse team? 4 or 5 British middle aged white men probably share a lot of thoughts in common - speaking as someone who fits this description. I'd like to hear from different perspectives about these cars so I have a full picture when trying to make one of the biggest financial decisions there is. Thanks!
Check out Vanarama
His knees are up around his ears whilst sat in the third row but he didn’t mention it
The service of this car is very expensive .
Sensible, but do you WANT it? No...
I’d like to know how it compares to Volvo XC90
At least in the US they do not share the same price range. Top of range is ~$40k for the Kia, the XC90 is about $54k-70k range.
In Belgium where I live, a similar version of XC90 (comparing to the full extra hybrid Sorento) is just double the price.
The car play doesn’t work if you have an iPhone, Google it, everyone including me is having the same issues. Kia blames Apple and Apple blames Kia and I am left with a $38,000 car without the ability to keep my iPhone 11 connected.
No spare wheel, what happens if you get a puncture in the middle of nowhere and you're stuck with a stupid tube of tyre sealant that's useless most of the time....
Buy a repair kit and fix your tire, cost £3 takes 5 minutes. Holds until you change to new tyre.
So-so Almost
Getting way too expensive for a non premium badge
Like it
Really have an issue with your comment about the third row being comfortable for long journeys - clearly wrong there, ooops! Rest of the review was really good though. Just avoid the BS ... :-)
too expensive
Diesel...
Looks like a Dodge caravan.😂
Not Even remotely

Center screen still looks ugly.
Big, ugly, unpractical, consuming tons of fuel (battery energy ends after dozen of miles)... americans will LOVE it!
As soon as I realised this wasn't an electric vehicle I stopped watching. How disappointing ! This vehicle could of been amazing if it was electric with over 300 miles. This car isn't going to be worth anything in 6 years time. No one will want it.
yeah, sure. And who's going to build new powerplants that will be able to cover the needs of all the EVs? Europe is already on an edge of a huge blackout.
Then they must all get there fingers out and do what tesla has done. Make a massive charging infrastructure. "Simples"
@@dereknederekne How does charging infrastructure solve the problem I was talking about?
Again this is a simple question with a simple answere. EDF are already on route to building the powerplants on which you desire.
Derek s
Also Rolls Royce are building powerplants right now too. There are 26 to be exact. At this moment in time being built for the UK.
With that kia badge! No thank you🤷🏻♂️
Lol are you stuck in 2007?
Stick a Mercedes,Audi or BMW on the front and you’ll probably buy it, another £30k on top and only a 3 year warranty. lol
james In Bradford why would i go for Mercedes and audi while u have plenty of other brands including them japanese and american ones. Korean cars have always had problems and they can’t resist for too long.
Britons and their mpg. It is 2024, use km and litres you make-up artists
