    Just bought the Santa Fe Highlander and love it. I've heard a few reviews(including this one) claim that Apple Car Play is split screen only. Rubbish. By default it is split screen but in the display settings unticking the split screen option allows full screen carplay.

    I had the previous model Santa Fe Highlander (diesel) as my last leaseback vehicle through my work and it was my first Hyundai and I must say it was the best car I have driven (leased) over the past 17 years. My current drive is another manufactures popular Hybrid SUV and to date I cannot get anywhere near the driving range and fuel economy I was achieving in the “Santa Fe”, brilliant car and I look forward to going back to the Santa Fe as my next leaseback vehicle in 2022. Hyundai Santa Fe definitely let’s you Sail away, sail away, sail away.......... go get one you will not be sorry.

    For mine the Santa Fe has the edge. It may be a symptom of my age group (60s), but I get the feeling that the Santa Fe is more sedate and offers a comfy ride compared to the more sporty ride in the Kia

    For me the Santa Fe has the better colour interior choices. Black, Burgundy & Camel/Caramel beige (highlander only). Where regardless of trim the kia is stuck with a black only interior even on the top spec model.

    Santa Fe looks inside definitely more classy en high quality inside while the Sorento has a much more cheap looking plastic bling-bling appearance as well as more wobbly ventilation shafts , which distract also somewhat. The chairs in the Sante Fe are definitely far more comfortable and support offering. You will feel that on long drives. For my wife these differences were a big thing to favor strongly for the Sante Fe.
    While riding corners you feel in the Sorento more like sitting on a bench en sliding outwards. Price and driver assist systems are nearly equal as fuel consumption in the hybrid versions is. Because of the more luxury interior appearance and comfort I would go for the Sante Fe. It's has although a more intimidating front which you like of not. The Sorento has a little bit more friendly front. I like that.
    Advantage of the Sante Fe: the color of the dials in the drivers display clearly shows which driving mode you are in. (sport, eco etc). Matter of personal preference.

    We have a Sorento. Huge electrical issues with rear tail lights going out. Electrical issues. We've had it to dealer 6 times. Not only a fuse issue. This is a common issue as I see on review sites. Second issue with Sorento is the front headlights are very low beam lights!!! Honestly I feel like I'm driving in the dark it's that bad. These 2 issues would make me NOT BUY ANOTHER EVEN THOUGH I LOVE THE SORENTO FOR EVERYTHING ELSE.. BUT THSE 2 THINGS CAN BE SAFETY ISSUES.

    My Deluxe Model has everything but the sunroof , it is called a Deluxe model here in New Zealand and it does have a 12 speaker Bose system , privacy shades on rear windows . It is by far the best Sorento I have ever owned as I have had 6 now counting this new one , it is by far better than say a VW Tourag , Audi or most European SUV's and just last week we did a drive for about 3 hours on ECO and my fuel consumption was 5.5 litres per 100km !..I just absolutely love this car but here in New Zealand our warranty is 5 years with 3 years free servicing and I must say our dealer and their staff are fantastic .

      Hey Kevin, Sounds like it's equipped like our top line Sorento called the "GT Line" which has the panoramic sunroof, everything you mention. Does yours have the remote parking feature where you can use the remote to park in a tight car park space and does yours have a camera mounted below the side mirrors, so when you are driving and change lanes the image is displayed in the instrument binnacle, so you can see any oncoming traffic in the lane you are about to change into? Ours also has mood lighting and bigger alloy wheels 20 inches I think and heated and cooled front leather seats.

    The 2000kg towing limit on the Sorento is such a dumb oversight by Kia, especially since it's rated to tow 2500kg with the 2.2D everywhere else like NZ and the UK. And clearly, if the Santa Fe can do 2500kg, so can the Sorento. Quite a few popular caravans have tare weights just over 2000kg and towball weights under 200kg that you can't legally tow with the Sorento, even though it would obviously be fine.
    I'm hoping this is something they either fix with the next model year, or even revise after the fact, because one of these two vehicles we be my next purchase, and I like the look of the Sorento better.

We contacted the Kia Corporate office to help with an issue we had after our car broke down on the side of the interstate 2 times after being serviced at 2 different Kia dealerships, Langdale Kia in Valdosta and Crown Kia in Saint Petersburg. Kia Corporate gave us the run around, telling us they would send our service request upper management to have it approved. After 3 weeks, they finally told us that no our car wasn’t under warranty! What?! It’s like they didn’t even read what we submitted. Kia doesn’t know how to fix their own vehicles and doesn’t care if they break down multiple times. This has been a horrible

    I looked at both and preferred the Santa Fe (Canadian market). Both excellent vehicles. Too much cheap looking gloss black plastic, faux rugged interior styling and less comfortable seats in the Sorrento, plus Kia force you into captains chairs in the second row on higher trim levels over here. Both a very solid choice though.

    Hey Matt can you give your thoughts on the Sorento and CX9

    • @carsguide
      @carsguide  3 года назад +6

      I sure can - I have a CX-9 in the driveway this week, as it happens. Personally, I like the drive experience in the Sorento more. It has a better level of comfort and compliance, though it isn't nearly as peppy as the CX-9, which is a seriously speedy large SUV.
      The Sorento has a touchscreen for CarPlay, where you have to use a dial/knob in the CX-9 - you get used to it in the Mazda, but it's a lot slower and less intuitive.
      And if you are buying either for using the third row often, the CX-9 has a slightly better space for occupants despite no vents/fan controls, and it has airbag coverage in the third row, which the Kia doesn't!
      Hope that helps.
      Matt

    Married/Female = Santa Fe
    Single male = Sorento
    The Sorento just has more masculine lines and says tough as nails even though its not truly off-road capable.
    Anyway, I hate it when the bottle holders are "just a little bit too small" to fit most bottles making it useless for your favorite water bottle. You always think, "how hard would it have been for them to make the space just a few mm larger?
    Just in case anyone doesn't get it, that third row is for small kids or temporary adult use situations. What automakers used to call jump seats.
    If you have a family or group where you need to carry 6 or 7 people regularly, then you need to move up to something larger like the Telluride, which has a true third row for grownups.

    I have a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. I went with the Tucson because I wanted AWD. It has been one of the biggest mistakes. The first was getting a Hyundai. They don’t care about their consumers. My car has been blowing headlights- having electrical issues (my auto windows go back down when you roll them up, my rear windshield wipers go off whenever they want, my break light seems to go on and off at random. I have reached out because as a company they should only want the best products out there. I was told that “because my car is over 3 years old. There is nothing they can do for me. To bring it to a dealer and “see what I can get” for it. I owe more than it’s worth because one thing they don’t tell you when you buy a Hyundai is they depreciate way faster than you can make payments to survive. DO NOT BUY A HYUNDAI.

    Have compared both and then gone for the Santa Fe. Reason behind is that the interior of the Santa Fe has a much more luxury look then in the Sorento. The massive amount of plastics in piano optic for me are simple unacceptable and look cheap for this price tag. Interesting point on the road behaviour. In Europe the Santa Fe has definitively the stiffer setup. Perhaps the Kia has got the australian trim which was denied to the Santa Fe in its recent edition?

    Isn't the SantaFe a platform change and not just a face lift?

    • @carsguide
      @carsguide  3 года назад +2

      This is a contentious point. It has been changed to the same 'platform' as the Sorento. But what one OEM calls a platform can differ to what another says is a new platform. We say it's a facelift because it uses the same body in white, but has revisions to its styling and cabin treatments. Without pulling the two apart and checking subframes and metal pressings, it's hard to actually state just how much is shared on the new 'platform'.

      Not going to happen, sadly. We can't justify doing it twice! But the result of this review carries over to the higher-grades. The Sorento GT-Line will still have all the same strengths (though it does have even harder seats and a silly rotary dial gear selector), as will the Santa Fe (but still with its quirks, too), but there is some additional spec to consider in both (like those awesome blind spot camera/digital dash screens). Check out the CarsGuide site for individual reviews on those grades.
