  • The Lenovo USB 3.0 Dock is designed to act as a pseudo-docking station for laptops or Ultrabooks that don't come with a proper docking connector and docking station solution, such as the ThinkPad X1 Carbon. This review demonstrates how the port replicator works and covers the functionality when used with an external display.

I bought it on the cheap, cause I have plenty of usb 3 laptops while only one with usb c. I have to say, I was sceptical at the beginning because of how much of drivers I was supposed to install but in the end I had no issues with any laptop connecting to this extender. But all of them were on Windows 10. But, the setup was surprisingly smooth and audio, peripherals and screens (2 of them) are connected and working just fine. The advice I have is to look for good cables. In my case, I had to buy one dvi-dvi and one VGA-dvi. If you reduce amount of additional converters it is just ok 😄 I would recommend of someone has won 10 laptop and don't wanna spend too much on dock

I didn't use the USB 2.0 dock but I will say that with this it took a couple of reboots after installing drivers to get everything working just right. I don't know why the rebooting worked, but it did, and after that it was smooth sailing. Please note I used this with a Sony VAIO and not ThinkPad so the driver support may not have been as strong.

Thank you for the video. Do you happen to have the part number for the docking station's power supply?

I'm assuming you're referring to the Sony VAIO used in this video and asking how crisp the display is when output to a monitor (this video is a review of a docking station). If you connect via HDMI or VGA using the VAIO S13 it's very crisp, the Intel HD4000 graphics can easily drive a couple of monitors.

I have a USB 3.0 ultradock and it has problems.. can't attach a 3440x1440 display port as well as 1920x1080 using HDMI (you'd expect it to work but actually the specs say it's max 2xHD). So have to put the 3440x1440 into the mini-display port on my P50 and then the 1920x1080 through the dock. However when doing this Chrome will quite often suddenly just be a toolbar and a black window. Drag the black browser window so half is on each screen and the half on the laptop-connected monitor is as expected and the half on the dock-connected monitor is black. Minimise and Maximise the browser and it returns to normal. However if I plug the HDMI into the laptop then all is ok. So I reckon this dock is actually a piece of shit and I now see no benefit from having it in my setup.

Lenovo USB 2.0 dock was useless. It wouldn't work with monitor/ethernet/mouse connected. Most often the problems affected the external monitor. Does this USB 3.0 fix the issues? Lenovo.com is saying that problems are fixed, but I'm hoping for a neutral opinion.

It is very annoying. And I am also trying to figure out if u can start the computer (or at least wake it up from sleep) by pressing the power button on the dock (while the computer, for example, has the lid closed) instead of having to start both the computer and the docking station separately.
      - No. It does not seem to work - and in fact I am not even sure what the power button on the usb3 docking station is for (but for my lenovo USB c / thunderbolt dock, it works. Then I can start the computer - with the lid closed - by simply pressing the power button on the USB c / thunderbolt dock - but unfortunately that does not seem to work on the USB3 dock.

why do you need it on a macbook pro? Not enough ports? Cause otherwise all the abilities should be on the macbook anyway, except the hdmi with sound, but can be handled with a hdmi to dvi adapter, which makes it cheaper.
