    If armour actually worked, we wouldn't need to use ES on strength based characters. No need to have 10K health if armour actually protects us.

    • @MikeyJ28
      @MikeyJ28 День назад

      Armor is calculated the same as it is in PoE 1. Armor alone has never been enough, you needed spell block, evasion, suppression, blind, freeze etc.
      There’s just a lot of imbalance in monster damage, melee viability compared to poe1 where melee was competitive and lack of defensive options on tree and gear.
      Armor is for frequent small hits, Evasion is for big crits and boss hits.

      @@MikeyJ28 so its calculated on the old armor formula from poe1 not from when they buffed it. the old formula makes it 2.2x worse than the formula they currently use in poe1. The current formula in poe1 uses raw damage x 5 you would take where in poe2 and the old formula uses raw damage x 12. I agree though you cant use armor for everything but they need to change the formula in poe2

      My point is strength based characters don't have access to life nodes like in POE1, but instead have lots of access to armour nodes. It's clear GGG intends for strength based characters to rely on armour as the primary way to mitigate physical damage. Unfortunately it doesn't work.. So now we have to go all around the tree to borrow nodes from (supposedly squishy) spellcasters and wear ES gear...
      The idea is int based characters rely mainly on ES, dex based characters on evasion and strength based ones on armour. They should be at least equally effective in their own way. Now armour is pretty much a useless stat compared to the others.

    • @MikeyJ28
      @MikeyJ28 День назад +1

      @ Yes that’s true but there’s more to it than just armor naturally being more effective. PoE 1 has better synergies for armor such as flasks, global defense mods, armor multipliers and auras like Determination and flat phys reduction mods on watcher’s eyes and body armors.
      All of these things make armor more effective because you have far more scaling options for phys.

      Exactly. I just put a post on the forums about this. It makes no sense. Was already worried about that from before release. Though since the proper gameplay turned out to be like PoE 1 (or worse). I guess it doesn't matter much unless you are melee. Then it's terribly punishing, like 90% of mechanics in the game.
      But yeah, it's another thing that's completely at odds with the supposed design direction. Like they didn't think it through at all.
      And will they actually redesign these maps? I'm not so sure. As well ass a bunch of other big things.

    I don't necessarily think people want zoom-zoom, but rather, they want the feeling the progress. That means gearing, that means ripping through maps to find citadels, and so on. And all that, currently, rewards speed. Not only are the zoom-zoom builds less at risk of dying (which ends the map), but when quantity matters most (gets you more drops, and more points done finds you more citadels), well, zoom-zoom kills quantities. People will do what works, and, well, right now, offense works, so naturally, that's what people will do. Of course, that doesn't change that certain things do just feel bad to play (looking at you, Mace skills) while others are very ineffective.
    A lot of work needs to be done if the devs want the game to go a bit slower. There are a lot of stupidly overpowered abilities (monk Bell, Archmage, Shock). There are a lot of stupidly overpowered interactions (some crazy "cast on" builds, items that give you ES based on your health using your pre-CI health, rather than the 1 hp you have thanks to CI). There are a lot of very stupid design decisions, like keeping the core idea of how armour works from PoE1, the lack of hp scaling, magic find impacting currency... and many of these were issues in PoE1, and they not only didn't try to fix them for PoE2 right out the gate, they often brought back the systems from PoE1 when they were at their worst. And then there's stuff like the "+time" in abilities like Sunder, which make them very unfun to play.
    Skills are also very poorly balanced. If you look at the elemental skills, for example, there really aren't "single target" spells, spells that are meant to kill a single higher hp target. And the ones that do sort of exist (Frost Bomb, Ember Fusillade) have dumb mechanics in them that stop them from being that useful (both of the afore mentioned ones become worse if you boost your duration, which you want for a variety of other skills). A spell like Spark should be weak enough that you do not want to use it against bosses or even rares. It should be for clearing packs of white trash mobs. And there should be hard hitting, single target things for killing the high hp mobs. If that existed, much of the zoom-zoom would go away, because you wouldn't instantly delete packs of trash mobs.
    Overall, they'll need to tweak over half the current skills in the game, with quite a few needing careful nerfs that stop their scaling from getting out of whack in the end game, without overly negatively impacting them during acts 1-6. Except for a few things, like the Bell and Archmage, which both fall into the "Did they let an intern design these?" category, as neither should have made it into the game as is.
    And yes, Shades are a garbage mob and need to die in a chemical fire. Freeze on the whole feels horrible directed against the player, and pretty much means you have to run an anti-freeze relic. But Shades not only freeze, they are also near invis and untouchable most of the time. Another very, very questionable set of design decisions.

    • @123443567
      @123443567 День назад

      Basically one problem with this if you take away the bell monk has no way to really deal single target damage lol they become aoe only cause that's what their abilities do otherwise. Also I don't believe any skill should be limited to one situation and one situation only especially with how the idea of this games build style functions. Other then buffs and curses mean to lower res or other things of course those are meant to make you do more damage. It feels like they want you to be able to pick any ability and make it work for everything based on what stats, passives, and support gems you use. If you take one ability, like spark as you mentioned, and nerf it so that it can only kill packs of white mobs you have now made a skill that won't be used because players that theory craft builds don't generally want heavily button filled builds as that alone makes for a very slow playstyle which is never really favored in the arpg world.

      Freeze (or any other ailment) should have build-up for enemies AND players. So, if you see you're getting freeze build-up, you could react on time, right now it's just poe1 RNG. "You're fine, you're fine, you're fine. Oh! you're frozen, you're dead."

    10/10. I agree with everything you've said.
    Especially on the lack of drops overall. The issue is that the endgame of POE2 and POE1 are essentially infinite gameplay/grind where the only real way to feel that you're making progress is to count the loot you've obtained from play.
    Unlike in other games where there is fixed amount of content and once you've done it all, you've finished the game.
    GGG seems to be wanting POE2 to be a game with a fixed endpoint where the point of it all, is to get to the end (beat the pinnacle bosses) with the fewest resources and lowest amount of deaths.

    Tbh I think my biggest disappointment in the game isn’t like, systems being weird or some QOL not being present in some areas, it’s that we already have an end game that’s just as fast as Poe 1.
    I’ve seen a ton of videos from a bunch of other content creators and they all seem to be in agreement, and I’m in this camp as well, it simply shouldn’t be possible to one shot the highest level difficulty pinnacle bosses.
    If you’re playing the strongest build, with a lot of investment, you have all the bells and whistles, 30-40 seconds should be the fastest you kill that content.
    I also think you’re slightly off the mark on what MOST of the playerbase actually wants. On the Poe 2 Reddit there’s a post asking for questions in an interview with Johnathan. Probably the most asked question right now is why the end game isn’t like the campaign.

      "it’s that we already have an end game that’s just as fast as Poe 1. " - Yeah, and the problem is, there are a lot of big design decisions that are at odds with a slower more tactical playstyle. Which they allegedly wanted in the past. (I say in the past, because with the big stream and teasers right before early access, they seemed to suddenly be leaning relatively hard in the clear speed meta. Speed and clear nuking>all. Like, "Don't worry guys it's gonna be fast nuking like PoE 1!")
      They would have to change a fair bit if they want to bring it back to a more deliberate gameplay. Redesign maps, how certain classes work (melee in particular), tons of rare monster mods and mods in mechanics like ultimatum. (aka re-design or completely reconsider archnem bs they have been pushing for a while)

I actually went back and had to mess up some of my resists to get rarity on my gear and now, even though im not swimming in rarity, the game feels so much better. for example: i was entirely unable to sustain T15 map drops previously with no rarity on my gear, and i was spec'd into the waystones drop a higher tier in the atlas tree.. T15 maps were super rare for me. now i have about 78% rarity through my gear and ive dropped the atlas waystone level for just more rarity in my maps, and now when i run a T15 map i walk out of the map with around FIVE t15 maps EVERY TIME. seems kind of counter intuitive to abandon waystone level for rarity and get more T15's so clearly some tuning needs to be made for sure....

Monk is fun and some skills like Ice Strike and Tempest Bell are strong and feel fun to use (aside from the targeting being some of the worst I've seen in any HnS game lol) but Quarterstaff in general isn't doing that great if you don't focus on the few overperforming skills.

    Wow mate, you really said it all. I've been feeling very similar to this. Trying to grind out a crossbow gemling for weeks using incendiary shot and switching to xplo shot because the ad clear was terrible, then nothing working right. Spending probably a week trying to build my character strong enough to take on the trial of chaos for fourth ascension, and still getting nuked by stupid mechanics. Spending weeks frustrated that I'm not seeing a single divine drop despite absolutely no-lifeing this game. Then finding out the crossbow "jams" and realising most of those deaths weren't just me being a bad player. I hated breach and ritual because if my crossbow "jams" I'm just completely dead, and i lose the map I've been juicing like seven towers for days to hopefully finally see a divine orb drop on, gone in one second. Really gave this game a fair chance, and I might keep playing but with armour being completely useless and so much built up frustration, we'll see. Hope you have a good one mate, you just earned a subscriber.

    Deadeye and Warden are the best classes in PoE 1 too. I’ve said this for years, if you’re playing SC trade, ascendency QoL and damage is king. You can buy defenses via gear and skill tree for far less investment.
    The problem you run into in PoE 2 is the dogsh*t one death per map. Imagine if you lost your Aul node in Delve after one death.
    If poe1 didn’t give you multiple attempts per map/boss, the game mode would not be popular.

    I play ARPGs for the casual grind aspect. That doesn't exist in endgame bc the difficulty of a white mob one shotting you makes for a constantly sweaty experience. So I reach endgame and reroll... or wait for a big patch

    • @HiddenStr3ngth
      @HiddenStr3ngth День назад

      I mean, PoE 1 has very similar issues. And worse, in some regards. You can run into rare mobs in T2 map that are stronger than T16 shaper guardian. But I guess you can just run past those(unless they are soul eater turbo speed, which also brick certain types of content). And white mobs can slap pretty hard until you have some solid defenses. But you just kill them usually without getting to hit you. Especially if ranged, that's similar in 2 though.
      Still, in PoE 1 you have more defensive options. Yet, not as simple in SSF, same in PoE 2. In trade, everything is much easier. And in PoE 1, to feel tanky in late game and juicier content, you have to hard invest in 4-5 defensive layers. Even then, it can be sketchy sometimes or rough in some content. (and go from taking 0 damage to getting 1 shot suddenly)

    Thank you. For years I had thought game devs were the issue and while games have gotten weird the last few years with forced perspective, gamers are a bigger issue. People have forgotten how to have a discussion and conversation. Players currently seem to be (in majority) playing with blinders on either side of the fence of the game is great "git gud it is just in EA," or "This sucks it is too hard."
    Neither of those statements are discussing the issues to help improve the game or highlight what is working.
    PoE2 marketed amazingly. It is a very good premise for the game we should have. It also has massive issues with currency bloat, having to level everything and trying to remember everything needing levelled and with what mats. The game is math and the consequences for everything is excessive from death exp penalties to losing maps you have used loads of mats on.
    Ways to tune the lose of maps is to give a few mats back when the map is lost. Losing experience on death based on what you map level you died in as opposed to a flat rate death tax. Many of us do not enjoy having limited time to play the game and losing 2 hours worth of experience in 1 death. Rares with prox/haste and siphon in a tier 18 map, really? Melee has to play a boom and zoom build.
    The constant comparison to poe1 is weird as well. Poe1 is not new player friendly but it is also a 1 size fits all super saiyan build game. We thought we were getting away from that.
    We are not asking to be handed anything, we are asking to enjoy the game without having to feel penalised for logging in.
    Tl;dr Math is involved. Your math teacher would love these guys. It feels more out of control than poe1

    I got to about tier 6 waystones and got bored. Lack of loot (I have no rarity on gear), and lack of variety were issues for me. Lack of loot filter support on console was also a big issue for me. Lack of variety is big for me. Esp. with melee warrior type, it's nightmare to try and engage with different content. Like Ultimatum, breach, delirium to a degree. (and there is nothing really fresh that is totally new to PoE 2... Ultimatum kinda pretty different to PoE 1, but it's overtuned and hell for melee)
      And I dislike most of the maps I have on the Atlas. Not a good feel to constantly see map I'm about to run and be like "Ugh, I don't want to run this". I have done all mission up to tier 15+ though. I haven't finished that one yet. (on SSF)

  • @5it968
    @5it968 2 дня назад +6

    I think they should keep rarity. Bump up standard rarity up like 100% or something and nerf gear rarity down by like 50%. The numbers don't matter but the concept of buff and nerf. That way non-rarity builds still get gear and currencies, but rarity builds still get rewarded for nerfing their characters. I hate the one death per map mechanic so much. However, I do believe this won't be permanent. I think it's only added to slow progression in beta specifically and force players to play strong builds so they can nerf it (call me a conspiracy theorist). Honestly, GGG is probably trying to see how many of the mechanics from POE1 that they can migrate over. Then, they add in new and fresh mechanics in the following leagues. I cope thinking they already have new mechanics but are trying to like stack these mechanics for future leagues.

      And that completely annihilates melee. Who can't move and attack at the same time. Which is also true for the vast majority of rare mob mods and other mechanics. That are extremely punishing for melee, but barely relevant for ranged, that can also move and attack at the same time.
      (WASD movement itself is great though, it's natural evolution for any game wanting to have better core combat, but other design decisions are where the issues lie)

  • @implosesgm
    @implosesgm 11 часов назад +1

    PoE 2 has an identity crysis, "souls-like-arpg" combination only works for the campaign, after that you HAVE to make your character 100x stronger, 10x faster and infinitelly tankier otherwise you'll be stuck in a soul-like character where the world around you are filled with Arpg monsters trying to grab your ass.
    DarkSouls and related games works because you are 100% of the time fighting against 1, 2 or 3 "magic equivalent monsters" at once, and the most important part YOU CAN SEE what's happening all the time, not 100's random monsters with random mods, and random on-death effects in random maps with random mods that you can't even modify.
    People will ALWAYS try to play PoE1 builds into PoE2, cuz that's the only way to have fun and get less frustrated in this frustration simulator game.
    After ~250 hours I stopped playing this and got back to PoE1 just to see how the things are going and man... what a great game!
    I'm not sure if making this a separate game was the right choice. At least, trying to make it different in every aspect for sure was the worst decision they could've made.

    The game has a good base, i just think it fell quite short for the GGG standard. It seems like they are making the same mistakes they learned from the past?
    - The first campaign experience was easily a 9/10, fully immersed but the story was okay.
    - The end-game turned into POE 1, with herald chain explosions into first week ranger just being 70 percent faster than anything else.
    - Next week the wave of builds doing anywhere from 5-100 million dps, effectively 1 shotting the Arbiter/Breach 4 boss.
    -Re-leveling is much faster now, but still fucking annoying.
    -The one portal rule feels awful, especially when learning a boss.
    - Literally dozens of explosions, with worse visibility than POE 1(wtf?).
    -Towers/juicing feel hollow and soulless.
    -Millions of bugs(as expected).
    The game sits around a 7.5/10 for me as of now.

    Another 6 months for the end game would be developed better.
    The game so far is good. Though
    There's still quite a lot things in development phase.
    1) other 6 classes.
    2) end game content.
    3) end game mechanics bosses.

    I agree with many things you've brought up in this video. I have about 280hrs in PoE2 now. (Thousands of hours in PoE1)
    One Poral system : Agree 100% Even the One portal system could be improved if in a party, why can I not revive my other party member? Even THAT would help alleviate some of it and promote party play. It is way too unforgiving losing your waystone to some random ground effect that was hidden under an environment layer etc.
    Campaign vs endgame : I have levelled 12 characters through the campaign so far, I've rushed a few of my guild mates through the campaign also. I've progressed T16 maps etc however the only "Pinnacle Boss" I have encountered so far is Olroth (expedition) trying to farm up the other resources for other boss encounters (breach simul) is a gigantic slog..
    I can say the campaign, I would have preferred they released EA with more acts over a half baked endgame system, I suspect they will remove or completely overhaul how the atlas works, we saw it in PoE several times so there is a good precedent there.
    I've recently made a Deadeye (1=2 div build with 120% magic find) and I can 100% say that rarity and drop rates are an issue in this game and need tuning. I saw a difference almost immediately.
    Honestly, I didn't mind Trial of Sek too much, I enjoyed farming relics (I was a sanctum enjoyer in PoE1), Ultimatum however is a different story, it either needs to be tuned or needs to be removed.

    I feel the slower builds would be more interesting if the endgame wasn't just killing large mobs of enemies and featured more bosses. If there was and endgame mechanic (or a trial that can go to endgame) that was just bosses I think the slower warrior style builds would be much better.
    I don't think speed of play style matters, but as you said speed of rewards really matters.

      Like the nodes where there is a boss in the map, they can just change it to make the map one big arena with a singular juiced boss in it or a multiple normal boss rush.

    So I’m new to POE 2 and I have a genuine question. Is the game truly meant to be this slow regarding gear progression. I’ve just got my 3rd character to endgame and this time I played more purposeful. Looking at every gear piece for my build I could find through drops and vendors. I managed to get through the campaign with no major issues or set backs. But once I got to mapping I couldn’t help but feel like I came to a screeching halt. Throughout my whole campaign, no matter how many vendors I checked and pieces of gear I slammed with orbs I never got to the start of end game with a reasonable amount of resistances.
    So is the intent of the game to slow you down this much in end game, to have to map slowly until you find gear that doesn’t break your current build while also assisting in your resistances needs. I don’t want to trade with this character play through but, I am not confident in the prospect of actually being able to get the gear, or craft the gear I need to progress through mapping. Not having played POE 1 was it the same there? Was trading the most efficient way of powering up your character? Or are there crafting systems set to come from POE 1 that give players a little more control over their gear and builds. While not having to rely so much on trading.

      We really area unsure until their video on the weekend. The game's progression is pretty unfun right now due to what you point out. They will either go to fix this or make it worse though.

    I killed xehst yesterday and still haven't seen a citadel. I got off work last night and was like "I don't want to do this anymore." If your grind breaks me...its to much. My toon can kill pinnacle bosses, I have no need to continue to farm and not gain actual progress.

    I will always play whatever is clearing maps the fastest as currency is king.
    And once we have a loot filter on console I can finally turn off gear drops.

    I think most of their decisions are to make the combat immersive. They want every action to have meaning. I think they can do it. It is only immersive during the first play through as you are being careful with everything and less stuff going on on the screen. After that it is just a arpg.
    Their highest challenge is how to make it immersive and engaging during endgame without making it zoom zoom. Zoom zoom is a poe 1 thing anf what make poe1 great.
    They may have to rethink their combat, skill tree and skill gems. I think thats is more important than pumping out new classes and ascendary
    And i agree with you, poe 2 should not take took much from poe 1. They may have took too much from poe 1. And also they seem to want everything for the game. I think they may have lost track when making endgame or maybe endgame was a rushed work so not much though is given to it

      To make an end game feel like the campaign is not trivial. They would need to rework nearly all of the game. They have no design or goals for the end-game. Which leaves the campaign feeling more like a technical proof-of-concept.

      @steven11101010 I think they don't rework too much
      It will just become Poe 1

    I'd like better flow than deleting screens regardless of what's in front of me. I've been playing warrior, and I'm not looking at what other people are doing. So far, it flows kinda nice. Leap slam from pack to pack plus bone shatter. For bosses I break their armor, stun them, warcries, sunder + hotg and the fight is over. For sure the game needs a lot of tuning.. the easiest thing to do would probably be turning it into poe1. I really hope they don't do that. I like poe 1, but it already exists and isn't going into maintenance mode.

    Thank you Jorgen, I appreciate this video since there's a lot of people still stuck in that honeymoon period. It's a shame since all I want is for the game to be even better than PoE1, but you can't do that if you don't criticize it...

    I'm playing warrior SSF, I have poop gear, everything's slow, and honestly I'm delighted I can only get buffs at this point haha. I might not be able to kill any end game uber bosses but I can do an Ultimatum 10 with level 80 mobs. Good enough for me. My only wish is that they buff armor somewhat

  • @Exiled_Rouge

    I think the 3 areas of POE that are poorly designed are the Ascendency acquisition system (this should just come from beating end of Act bosses), the overall game speed (it's too slow & that makes every subsequent playthrough boring) and the scarcity of drops (I should not be wearing a piece of gear for 20+ levels). These 3 areas eat at every aspect of the game design- it is so poorly thought of that I think GGG fundementally are bored of the ARPG genre and in making these design choices it reveals a design within GGG to make a different type of game but can not wholly.

    I honestly think melee skills should impart somekind of buffs, increased damage reduction and movement speed, duration adjusted to last between packs. These buffs immediately get removed when using a non melee skill. Hell half the best warrior nodes reduce attack speed... rediculous.

    • @HiddenStr3ngth
      @HiddenStr3ngth День назад

      Nah, melee should always get the most brutal disadvantages and none of the advantages.
      Ranged should get all the natural advantages it has, and tons more on top of that.
      (like rare mob mods being designed to crap on melee hard but be practically irrelevant to ranged. Oh, they added 1 to annoy ranged, proximity. But it annoys melee too actually lol even more)

    Rarity should be for farming builds, the tradeoff should be that they'd be too weak to take on harder enemies and are basically just used for clearing trash..
    Harder fights should have bigger rewards to encourage people to build power characters for the more difficult encounters.

    I really like it slow : acts 1-3 are great.
    I play my own build (gemling grenadier bleed), and I'm taking it slow in the maps too. I one tap groups but I don't feel the need to rush : we're in EA after all.
    Too fast like we have in poe1 is stressful to me and I can't enjoy it for more than a few minutes anyway. So I really hope we will have a huge nerf wave and that GGG will put a strict limit to this zoom zoom epidemy.
