    I find the best rig for fishing in moreon bay for whiting is a basic sliding rig with a light ball sinker some prawn sometimes with heads and with their shells, I use long shank size 2 from mustad. When I am beach fishing or the current is very strong I will use a sliding dinner rig but with a sliding sinker clip and a star sinker with the exact same hook and leader. oh btw I use 8pound leader which is very heavy but I don't have any other leader right now

    • @Wayne.Groomes.Fishing
      @Wayne.Groomes.Fishing  4 года назад

      Your mono line and a very small sinker above your hook will work. If the wind is light don't use any sinker at all for bream.

    I see so many people raving over plain old chicken. What do you think? Alot of people reckon they're getting just as good if not better results from the humble chicken than live baits. Sure as hell saves a lot of mucking around finding and looking after live bait.

    • @Wayne.Groomes.Fishing
      @Wayne.Groomes.Fishing  3 года назад +1

      Chicken works well for some species but it’s not even close to comparing to live bait.

    What's the logic behind the red plastic? Attractant? Are lumo green/yellow ones any good? Strange that you have to use very light FC leader and then go put a thick red plastic tube over it and the fish seem to like it. I drift fish from a boat and have been using paternoster but this is an interesting rig and I'll be sure to try it next time.

    • @Wayne.Groomes.Fishing
      @Wayne.Groomes.Fishing  6 лет назад

      Mr Ed your spot on, it does seem odd. I know that it works having used it for so long. With or without the red tube you will catch fish. Just seem to increase the catch during the tougher times with the red tube.

    Great video Wayne!
    Just wondering, do you know if the soft plastic worms work for whiting? Is there a technique to fishing them, or do you use them like live worms - cast and wait?
    Cheers

    • @Wayne.Groomes.Fishing
      @Wayne.Groomes.Fishing  6 лет назад +2

      They do but not anywhere near as well as live worms. and yes fished the same. With the long trace it gets movement from the current.

      If you want to fish lures for whiting, your best bet is topwater. Try the Bassday Sugapen or the Zippbait Skinny Pop Junior. Light tackle (braid is best but if you're fishing soft plastics you'll know this), try to get the wind behind you so you can cast long, then slow retrieve while flicking the rod tip and if whiting are there they will go for it. Many vids on RUclips of this technique. Good luck and tight lines!

    Great video Wayne. Just wondering if you can still catch a few whiting just before the full moon in September or is it best to wait to just after the full moon in September that is the 25th? My family’s going up to Noosa for the holidays and I was just wondering if the fishing would still be good just before the full moon? Also if we are further north will the whiting come on a few days earlier? Cheers.

      UnBelievable the whiting are already turning up here and there. I’m just set in my ways. Chase bream and flatty until the moon in September.

    where do you think is the best flatty fishing spot in brisbane and redcliff because I am having a hard time finding spots

    • @Wayne.Groomes.Fishing
      @Wayne.Groomes.Fishing  5 лет назад +1

      Martin Sarmady there are many that work okay but each spot varies based on weather, tides etc. in a northern try Hays Inlet. Southern Scarborough and western Scotts pt up to Queens Beach. Hays on the last 3 hours. Scarborough the same and Scotts to Queens Beach anytime on a run out.

      Garden worms won’t but the worms you dig from salt water areas absolutely do. Worms you buy from bait shops also come from salt water areas
