Most employers will terminate an employee for airing their opinions on social media if those posts bring any embarrassment to the company or the supervision. Not just a government job. When social media and Facebook were shiny and new, a co-worker regularly posted about her negative interactions with our customers. Our IT dude warned her (and everyone else) not to post stuff like that, and she was eventually terminated. When my boss and I went through her emails, there were *hundreds* of non-work related garbage from online shopping sites and junk notifications she'd signed up for using the company's computer, revealing why she wasn't getting her assigned work done on time.
All this to reiterate what's already been said: RTFM!
