Thanks for the update! Glad they took care you. I’ve also had good service from Ruger. I think I know who you’re referring to when you reference Ben. If so, he’s given me great advice as well. Still loving my SFAR’s!
Ruger was fantastic with me too. They sent me a new gas regulator for my 16" & its working pretty damn good now. 230 rounds through the nw regulator only been on setting 2. After 100 rouns it started acting funny again. I cleaned regulator & ran 130 rounds yesterday with only 1 failure to hold bolt open on last round one last round knocked my charging handle loose. I also ran six different kinds of ammo yesterday. Perfecta (Tulla) 147gr, Magtech & Remington 150gr, Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr, Winchester Super X & PowerPoint 180gr. Why wouldn’t you just stick with one load? I’m not sure why you people keep trying to make the rifle fail by picking all these different loads.😂 Such moronic behavior
@mrgrump2534 I had a couple reasons to try different loads. First I wanted to know did the replacement regulator fix my feed issues? Yes it did. Second wanted to find a match grade ammo for target groups & a less expensive fmj for plinking steel that I knew was reliable & the rifle liked so I could stock up on a 1,000 round case of each. I'm good to go now. If that makes me a moron?? Then oh well. 🤷♂️
Thanks for the update! That’s almost exactly what I was thinking 😀. I’ve seen it before on other AR-10s. It’s pretty cool that Ruger recognized all the time and money you’ve spent “as an advocate for the platform”. It looks like they went through it and threw in some extras for you. It’s at little cost to them but goes a long way. I appreciate it too. It’s nice to see others love the gun as much as I do. Notice the haters (Turkey and crew) are nowhere in the comments when it’s a happy ending? Go figure 🤣
Had similar problems-including trigger failing to reset. Problems persisted throughout the break-in. Called Ruger, and as usual, they were great. Sent the rifle back as instructed, and Ruger turned it around in less than a week with a “new bolt carrier, new barrel, new gas key, and repaired trigger. Fired twenty rounds without a malfunction.” Yesterday and today, tried it again…and still have not fired more than four consecutive rounds without a malfunction. Had all the same problems. 4-7 malfunctions per magazine. Three magazines, three different anmos, all factory new. After the first three rounds, had to pull both pins and separate the upper from the lower. A few more rounds, and had to stomp the charging handle down to clear a failure to fire. Had to do that more than once. Then, the trigger failed to reset-pull and no click-so I keep the barrel pointed down range, wiggled the trigger, and it reset…and I fired from the hip...not entirely on purpose. A few more rounds, and the firing pin stopped striking the primer. If I single loaded, one round at a time, I could fire one round at a time. Accurate as can be, fantastically light, but so far my SFAR is a single shot rifle with a dangerous trigger. Will reach out to Ruger again this week…but I’m really disappointed that such a promising concept from my favorite bolt action manufacturer (M77 superfan) simply doesn’t work.
I was having the same issue when I sent mine off to Ruger they replaced the whole upper and I haven't had a problem since. Hopefully it gets worked out for you
I hope so, too, @brett4200241. Have not had a chance to get back to the range, and might not until hunting season is over, but these break-ins are getting expensive! So glad your rifle is right.

But never having any problems with ruger i didnt watch video before i layed away the 20in version at my local gun store. I thought hey ruger is really reliable ive never had issues with them. But when i started watching these videos i have to admit they got me worried. I believe the best customer service is not having to use customer service, if i have to send a firearm back i can assure u i dont want it no more it will have lost all credibility and dependability it will be hard to trust it to protect ur life when u had a bad experience or seen and heard all the bad reviews is in your mind.
When I got my sfar I was having issues with it ejecting. I have the 20-inch barrel, and I tried many different types of ammunition, including Surplus, all the way up to the expensive Target & Hunting . I sent mine back to Ruger and they replaced the whole Upper. Brand new barrel and bolt group. Since then I haven't had one malfunction . I'm probably 200 rds in now. I absolutely love this rifle the only thing is I made the mistake of shooting it at a coyote without ear plugs in , and I promise you I lost some of my hearing that day. I went to sleep with my left ear ringing. This Ruger with the Boomer muzzle brake is the loudest gun I've ever shot. But I absolutely love this gun.

They installed the plunger upside down then the spring. Once I corrected that I have not had an issues with it since as far as magazine not catching when empty.
All of the brass you've shown has signs of overpressure. They cut the chambers wrong on the SFARs. It leads to parts failure and if you run a silencer, the rifle has a chance of detonating.

Glad your gun has been straightened out. My 16" gun has been back to Ruger twice, a new bcg then a new bbl. I still had problems with gas pressure so I asked for their new regulator hoping that would fix that problem. It didnt. My rifle was under gassed on 2 and over gassed on 3. I saw their "gas regulator" as the issue and swapped it out for a Superlative Arms adjustable gas block. With GB in full bypass, backed all the way out , it was still over gassed. Next installed a Sprinco Red buffer spring and went to a H2 buffer. The ejection is approximately 2:30 which is pretty good, but I'll try a H3 buffer to hit a 3:00 ejection. I tried various bullet weights during this process and found that if I wanted to run 168 gr I had to back the charge down or the brass would get chewed up and rims bent. 150 gr bullets seem to work the best. @izzyiz810 well, I agree, but I think it's that way for many of the cheaper brands, glock still has issues, same with Sig, and many others. It's a "you get whatcha paid for thing"
Tighten the gas block. 9/10 times one or both screw on the underside of the gas block are loose, and it causes an insane amount of gas to leak out around the gas block. Just tighten down nice and snug. Fixed mine and my buddies feeding issues 100%
Well, really wanted one?I’ve looked at dozens of these videos recently and all I can tell you is Ruger has real good customer service but they’re rifle less then worth a fuck if you have to send back 80% of the product put out. well it speaks for itself. I would be afraid to field this rifle once you open everyone knows your name and your the new favorite target weapons failure is catastrophic at that time so if you wanna shoot rabbits, you’ll probably be OK
Wonder how many haters got their rocks off when they heard the all mighty SFAR failed… Simple issue, simple fix… Obviously was an ammunition issue that caused the issues to the gun… Lack of knowing the primer material was deep in the bolt, causing the extractor to malfunction. Also the smearing of the casing head, could be a few issues… One could be improper case size for the chamber tolerances, two could be needing a heavier buffer. Most guys I’ve seen once broken in, go to an H2 buffer. Slow the bolt down, and things function much better… 👍🤘👏

Following closely......
No mention of your gaz setting during the test. Incomplete evaluation....
Gas setting 2 as stated in the email at the start of the video and in the previous videos regarding the rifle.
So ruger basically did there job. That should be expected
Wonder how many haters got their rocks off when they heard the all mighty SFAR failed…
Simple issue, simple fix… Obviously was an ammunition issue that caused the issues to the gun…
Lack of knowing the primer material was deep in the bolt, causing the extractor to malfunction. Also the smearing of the casing head, could be a few issues…
One could be improper case size for the chamber tolerances, two could be needing a heavier buffer. Most guys I’ve seen once broken in, go to an H2 buffer. Slow the bolt down, and things function much better… 👍🤘👏
so the hornady Amax 168 was the tightest groups?
