    🖖😎👍Very cool and very nicely greatly wonderfully well done and very nicely well informatively explained and executed in every detail way shape and format provided on the Romulan Valdore Class War Bird and this is truly one of my all time favorite Ships of the Romulan Fleet Indeed, And I myself own 2 of these by Eaglemoss and have a 1:2500 scale resin kit of it as well from Federation Models!; Any ways a job very nicely fabulously well done as always indeed Sir's!👌.

    This ship makes a lot of sense if you consider the Dominion War. The Romulans pretty much just had the D'Deridex warbirds. Large & powerful ships but having poor maneuverability. They fared very poorly against the smaller Jem'Hadar attack fighters. It would make sense for the Romulans to pursue a smaller, lighter, more maneuverable class of ship in the wake of the Dominion War. The Scimitar indicates they havent abandoned the super-ship mentality, but are trying to create a more diverse fleet.

    • @Raussl
      @Raussl 9 лет назад +1

      +phoenix1985 scimitar isn't a romulan design...it is reman, and the lore suggested there was only one. I think I read somewhere it was build up from the hull of a dominian dreadnought.

      no doubt, but shinzon explicitly stated that the scimitar was build in secret ... without the knowledge of the romulan senat or praetor. In other words it was build by a rogue faction within the romulan empire, meaning it was unique and not a romulan design.
      So techically it wasn't even part of the romulan navy of spaceships.

    The outboard pods are secondary nacelles, according to the Starships Collection schematics. No idea why it would need those.
    On the bridge, is the central command podium taken from the Runabout cockpit?
    As for the design, one of the more subtle things I like about it is the flare on the upper decks of the head section. It's subtle and easily missed, but I think it ties things together well, somehow, almost like the chines on the nose of the SR-71.

    It's known as the Mogai Class in the novels as well. The Valdore is the name of Commander Donatra's ship and is named after Admiral Valdore who is that chap who tried to disrupt the talks of the Andorians and Tellerites with his drone ship in Enterprise.

    The pods on either side of the wings are actually warp engines, there limited to a top speed of warp 4 and they take over when the ship clocks as they give off less emissions for sensors to track, thus making them harder to detect by the upgraded sensors of the federation and dominion.

  • @gugeyewalker
    @gugeyewalker 9 лет назад +2

    I believe the impulse engines are actually inside the wings. One shot in nemesis shows the beefier parts of the back of the wings aglow.

    18:32...... if you look closely at the chair in the foreground next to the consoles..... that is actually the captain's chair from Voyager, it took me a second to put my finger on it, and also googling it, but I managed to put the puzzle together lmao.

      +supramike67 I believe that on Memory Alpha it said that some of the chairs and consoles were re-uses from the Voyager set and if I'm not mistaken some bits were from Deep Space Nine. Good find, I would never have picked that out not reading the MA article!

    In the Eaglemoss Starships Collection it states that the smaller pods are in fact secondary warp nacells, designed to allow the ship to travel at high warp speeds without risking disrupting the cloak. They are basically "silent running" engines for stealth. I do like the design and I think the sleekness is a good look, but it strikes me as fragile due to the thinness of the wings despite the fact that its actually a very large ship.

      Originally the Klingon Bird of Prey was supposed to be a stolen romulan ship in an early draft of Search for Spock. Earlier concepts had romulans as the adversaries (checking out the Genesis planet as a mining expedition). Enterprise series killed off that concept of the klingon BoP as romulan design in origin though.

    • @novax-ig9yt
      @novax-ig9yt 8 лет назад +1

      Yeah, I am aware of that back ground of the K-BOP, which is interesting. But (just my opinion) the overall silhouette of the Valdore is very reminiscent of the K'Vort Class Klingon Bird of Prey. I actually like both ships, though.

    This has replaced the D'Deridex as my favorite Romulan ship since seeing it in the movie. So beautiful. In STO after I complete my main stuff I plan to go back to this one and really hotrod it.
    The trouble with the two Valdores helping Picard..Dinatra? Those two captains were too incompetent to be Captaining those ships of that class.

    Good call Captain Foley, I sail multihull boats, and the warp nacelles do look like pontoons/amas you'd find on a Catamaran or Trimaran. The nacelles almost remind me of the pontoons on a Hobbie Cat.

    Another great episode! Now, it is probably not a very popular request, but now I would really really like to see a mission briefing about the Narada, the "romulan mining vessel" from the first JJ movie. Because I have to admit: I only saw this ship in the movie and I would be interested if you guys can dig up some concept art or something. It is such a unique and odd design that for me has not very much in common with any romulan design ever seen before. So I ask myself: are there any similarities or concepts that stood behind the decision to create it that way? Maybe there were actually other plans before somebody decided that the narada had nothing to do but "look good" in a black-hole-thunderstorm-thingy.
    Anyway, again, I would love to see you guys putting your thoughts about that in a video for us. As for now, I'm happy that 3 major generations of romulan starships have been discussed on the channel!
    P.S: (I think you should definetly make a treknology about romulan helmets. they just look so awkward, I want to know what the hell was up with them)

    What's the obsession with sleekness? You make it sound like being thin and long was a good thing.
    If you look at shield technology, the most effective shape for that is a sphere, as field strength declines with distance, which means you'd need more power to keep the shields up. Also, thicker designs allow for more internal space, so you can carry more fuel, more supplies, more troops etc.
    The more compact ships usually look better, too, in my opinion.

    • @1Atomrofl
      @1Atomrofl 8 лет назад +2

      +Dhindara Vrel maybe the design is more combat-orientated. Valdore is supposed to be a fast and maneuverable attack ship and sleekness means less chance of a hit in certain situations?

    • @Dazzxp
      @Dazzxp 4 года назад

      True sphere is best as a shield creates a bubble around the object as well as a warp bubble is also a sphere in nature, but plot armour always wins :p so the only thing going for them is the design.
      The sleekness only becomes a factor once the shields go down as a narrow profile makes it harder to hit. When you look at this ship from the front and as it evades there is very little mass to hit with weapons.

  • @joegrimes9232
    @joegrimes9232 7 лет назад

    I always saw the Valdore/Mogai as a Praetorian Escort vessel. They strike me as Interceptors. They would flank the Flagship, in this case the Scimitar, if they weren't aiding the Enterprise. I get the sense they would be used primarily for escort duty. Surgical strikers that fly ahead run interference. They are heavily armed and advanced, Manoeuvrable as hell, but not meant as Battleships.

    • @joegrimes9232
      @joegrimes9232 6 лет назад

      I am torn whether or not this is my favorite Star Trek ship design. I always loved the Romulan ships. When I was a kid, my Dad would buy the Micro Machine line of miniatures for me when he got back from a work assignment. I'm a TNG kid, so all the ships were new and exciting and I remember looking at these toys and wondering what they were until we'd sit on the sofa and watch the latest episode in the UK and I'd learn about the capabilities. The Romulan Warbird especially. I loved that ship. It's bird-like visage and swooping wing structure. You got a sense of power from the get go and that episode where the Romuans return was menacing and gave the D'Deridex a mystique. Later they Nerfed the ship for story reasons and I get that. Then Fast forward to 2002. Nemesis came out and I was older and saw the flaws from the movie - but 2 things stuck out in that movie. The Scimitar and the Valdore. The Scimitar looked like a kitbashed mess of a Dominion Battlecruiser and a Warbird... but it was meant to as it was Kitbashed. It actually made sense, unlike the Nerada (but separate rant there) The Valdore was suddenly this streamlined, heavily armed answer to the Klingon K'Vort. Bigger, meaner more teeth. Appropriate for the time period and I could imagine this as the Elite Praetorian guard. These ships are fast, powerful and designed to defend the flagship. So I am torn. I love the D'Deridex. But Goddamn that Valdore/Mogai... It's like the childhood sweetheart is the D'Deridex and then along comes this vixen, winking at you.

    Visually it's a "60% there" design. I agree with the guy who is not Stuart Foley that the warp engines look tacked on, but also the nose drops down too far. In general the attempts to tie it into the D'deridex aren't working. Parts of it are nice, and it's great to see a new Romulan ship, but overall it isn't where it needs to be.

  • @Daehawk
    @Daehawk 7 лет назад

    I like the Valdore because it IS thin and dainty yet will kick your butt and is also fast. And E would kick Valdore's butt because of shields and quantums. Valdore is very Klingon'ish.
    The D'deridex was nice for it's time but the Valdore is sleek art.
