What other songs would you like to see this month?
Yes.
The rainbow connection?
Ring of Fire.
Something in nordic folk metal would be great
The Tale of Cu Chullain by the miracle of sound please. It's perfect for Metal Colm and for Irish Folk Singer Hero Colm!
I already noticed this, but once again I was convinced: only Colm can sing a song in such a way that it simultaneously sounds like a battle cry, and like a lament for the dead, and like a lyrical ballad with endless love.
just thank you for what you do, Colm. thanks a thousand times.
Did you listen to the original of this around when it came out? I believe it was the opening theme of Final Fantasy 8, or that it was at least part of their advertisement campaign.
nah, that just means he's Irish LOL
@@Thalanox The original version of this song came out in 1994, five years before the release of Final Fantasy 8.
And Dolores
yes this is good, but Payton Perish did it better
Irish law requires any Irish singer to cover this song at least once a year or risk losing their bard license.
I always suspected that that was the case. Thanks for confirming that for this Aussie Lass. 😂😂😂😂😂
Got me a bit interested in what the British law says about singing this song publicly.. 🤔 😕
Was wondering what the accent was, and suspected Irish. REAL
@@Adottir As an American descendant of enslavers and colonizers, I can confirm that the descendants of colonizers, enslavers and those who benefit from systems set up by their predecessors or ancestors must carry this song in their hearts and at least hum it when recalling atrocities, moments in history that need not be repeated, while striving to be better allies, unlearning toxic mindsets and behaviors and sharing with and teaching others from their particular demographic.
Themz is *Da Rulz*
Also, the gods blast it into your skull at 0dark30, jolting you out of your sleep to remind you of that thing you said/did before you knew better...and when reminding you of the grace and patience someone had for you when you absolutely did not deserve it.
I'm pretty sure this relates to how the British handle *The* Anthem. Just not sure how.
Though in The States, as far as the law is concerned, how this applies to your Annual Bardic Certification may vary by state, county, and city as there is no federal regulation. Most bards follow the regulations set down by the College of Julliard, though some stubbornly adhere to some vaguely named organization out of Austin Texas, the requirement of which seems to be simply being able to clap at the appropriate time during "deep in the heart of Texas", habitually placing your right hand over your heart or saluting during patriotic songs and "getting" conservative humor.
Seriously?! That’s Respect for Dolores!!
I love the fact that this has the sound of the Bad Wolves rendition, but the emotional power of the original. Absolutely incredible
I was thinking this!
The Bad Wolves cover was mid as Hell. Just tried to imitate the Cranberries but with a male voice. Colm absolutely blows them out of the water, no contest.
@@Tracker947 I disagree. They didn't try to be like them at all, but to pay homage to the original. Delores even loved their rendition so much that she wanted sing with them and be a part of it. Unfortunately, she never got the chance.
@meganlodon So they imitated the original accidentally and respectfully. The circumstances surrounding the music does not change the way it sounds to the ear.
@@Tracker947 It wasn't on accident. Covers are usually close to the original while adding a flare of their own. That's what they did. To me, though, there was enough difference. Much like Disturbed's version of Sound of Silence.
good job colm
Thank you, dad! 💚
@@ColmRMcGuinness ayo, Colm is the secret child of Jonathan confirmed (jokes aside I loved your cover)
@@ColmRMcGuinnesslol 😂
Incredible; you really let your vocal range work on this one, brother bear. 10/10
Dolores would be goddamn proud of you on this my friend - this was absolutely incredible!!! ❤
That's what I just thought. Incredible cover.
Just wow... Outstanding, good job
When The Cranberries released this song in the 90s, I learned what it was about. I've heard a few covers, and yours is the only one that brought me to tears; your vocals expressed the emotions I never could about The Northern Ireland Conflict.
It was written about Tim Parry and Johnathan Ball . Two boys killed by a IRA bomb in a English town Warrington. Two boys gone and many more children and other innocents being killed for what? I rent know.
Check out the cover by Grandma's Smuzi; it's the best I've heard yet.
@@TheRealSkeletor it's good, the singer is great but they use way too much echo... colms version is even better than the original👌🏼
The Troubles. Strange name for a civil war/insurgency. May they never happen again.

Even leaders of street gangs are ultimately political about how and why they fight. The only apolitical war is a 1 on 1 duel.
Here, you only have your steel.
Planetside 2.
The rage scream part you do gave me chills every time. Was not expecting something that sounded pained and furious at the same time.
I love the fact that I can hear your accent within the song. It makes me reflect on the violence unleashed on the Irish over the centuries, and brings it closer to home. Rock on 🤘🏻
That's what the song is about
I mean, technically it was the Irish doing it, but I guess you can argue they were spurred on.
@@HolyApplebutter This isn't just about The Troubles. The English have been fighting and oppressing the Irish for centuries.
@@HolyApplebutterNah. Not even. It's been the English that provoked it.
Like the potato famine. That wasn't a disaster because of a disease. That was a disaster because the English systematically shipped food out of Ireland and left the Irish to die.
The English government is responsible for the Troubles because it was a long time coming, due to years of oppression from the English government
@@HolyApplebutter It was the English from day one, since 1169.
There's something powerful about Colm, like Dolores, not obscuring his dialect in this cover. It's not just folk songs enhanced by keeping cultural/historical context in mind... Also, it's apparent he had a unique vision for how to render this distinctly from the countless other covers. Absolutely masterful, Colm. One of your finest pieces yet.
I already thought the cover was great halfway through the first verse, and then you got to the chorus and it hit me like a truck. Truly incredible work. It's a hard song to do justice without losing sight of the feelings behind it, but I really think you nailed it.
Dolores was actually set to reprise her Vocals on Bad Wolves Version & she was found dead in her hotel rm the Morning Recording was to be done. Bad Wolves Donated all Proceeds to her Children!!!!!!!
Why do people of all times forget about the message this song delivers... Astonishing work, Colm.
Because the human race has been at war with itself since the dawn of time and it won't ever end because you will always have disagreements between groups of people.
Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.
@@MalefaxTheBlack yep and doesn't help people keep editing and changing history facts to suit themselves. So thus the truth of history is forgotten in the end.
To answer your question, most people outside of the UK aren't even aware of the historical events referenced by this song. And if you don't already know what the song is about, the song doesn't really tell you. That's the main reason.
Additionally, there are people like me who never listen to songs for their message. I only listen to music for the way it sounds, not for a message. This is why I generally prefer instrumental music over lyrical music. This is confusing as hell to people who listen to music mostly as a vessel for a message, but it is what it is.
@@stevenseufert2520 true. Anyway, imo music is a great way to deliver any message more clearly since people see it more as a meaningful work of art than a political statement, thus they are less likely to reject it without consideration.
Also I'm actually very far outside the UK, but nevertheless I deeply sympathize with the people who suffered from these events, so why can't (and shouldn't) others? World would be a better place if we could look at others' mistakes of constantly fighting and turning into "zombies" and just think for ourselves: "No, this is horrible. We don't want to ever experience the same."
The level of passion in this is off the charts! As soon as I can breathe again I'll be letting EVERYONE know they need to listen to this!
As someone who's currently at another low point in life, to the point of overeating or not eating at all, not being able to fall asleep but then sleeping too long, this video has been helping me so much recently. Just lying awake at night, listening to this on loop and silently screaming along is easing some pain. The feel of the song and then combined with Colm's breathtaking voice ❤
hang in there brother! It gets better!👊
🫂🫶
Hang in there mate. One day at a time. 💜💜
The red lighting and vapour looks just great, fits your amazing voice.
Woah, this was incredible. I was enjoying the heartfelt soft start of the song, did not expect the amazing screaming on the chorus. I was covered with goosebumps instantly. Have listened to several covers of this potent song, but your version Colm, is by far the best. Thank you kindly for sharing it with the world.
Amazing musicianship, as always Colm. The soft verses contrasting with the heartfelt chorus, simply wonderful. The long held scream at the end was a nice treat of you ever expanding vocal abilities. Stay handsome, Colmpany!
Yes, the voice is amazing; but let us not ignore the masterful guitar technique in the solo at 2:48. The tapping and clean intonation during that bar chord is awesome. I love it! More please; also, I really appreciate the cultural adaptation to the song. A very nice and somber touch.
Wow, just wow! What a mind-blowing master piece! When I put in a cheeky request for Zombie a few weeks ago, never in my wildest dreams thus I expect this. Such powerful emotions, tenderness, grief, rage. It takes some guts to take on such a powerful song, you absolutely nailed it! What a fantastic homage to Dolores !
actually felt a chill at like 2:20 when he started pushing the power of his voice. Couldn't be just me but I had to say something for how that made me feel.
One word: Powerful. Covers are sometimes a tricky affair - sometimes they elevate the original work to new heights, or they are sub-par to the original because the artist didn't fully understand the original. Colm, you knocked this out of the park. You did this song justice... and you should be proud of that.
You did justice to the song.
With a song as powerful as that, it’s no small feat
It’s awesome how we are clearly all here for the singing and yet Colm is consistently shredding the guitar and like 50 other instruments!
Soulful and yet Metal, only you could pull off something like this; kudos! Amazing juxtaposition, and so thoughtfully put together.
Perfection. The keening, the accent, the scream, the emotion... absolutely the best cover ever of this song. I would even go so far as to say it rivals the original.
This is AMAZING! I can hear the blending of Vext's vocals in the chorus and Dolores' in the verses. Outstanding work, as always, Colm!
Do can I. Wonderful work of editing
A song that reminds us that, no matter how justified we think our anger is, no matter how much we feel our "enemies" deserve it, the only thing you can know for sure is that our violence will destroy the lives of others and cause the suffering of the inocents.
Zombie is just the epitome of Irish art. It seems inevitable that you’d contribute a rendition of it but, at the same time, I know it must be an intimidating undertaking. This song can never be performed lightly, it’s Irish soul will always shine through.
If you havent noticed the flutes at 3:58 and got overwhelmed with emotion, you're not human. Sweet touch Colm
Absolute chills and goosebumps with this beautiful rendition.
Holy mother of God.. you put so much into it.... She would have been proud of this version.
What.The.Honest.Fuck. How does a singer like you NOT have a touring band? You have to have one of the most diverse vocal ranges I have EVER heard! Love your music so effin MUCH!
And here I thought that Aviators used to do it justice. Yours blew it out of the park, Colm! Gosh, I'm enamored with this and the metal underlying theme you've introduced with that rumbling tone of yours makes it a perfect cover.
Cranberries ought to be proud of such a phenomenal take like yours!
I love it to bits!
Glad to see another Aviators fan here!
@@blazesaviik5878 We apparently, do in fact, exist.
I heard Aviators and was summoned forth from the void. Is it time?
This song hits so much different after i have gone to the Middle East. I love how Colm went back to the orginal style as an Irish Mourning Song. In 2017 nothing changed. I can tell you even in 2024 we still have young men and women taken by Drones and Bombs.
Colm's covers both Bad Wolves raw rage against conflict with Delores' mournful tone.
A true Irish song! A song about the struggle of Ireland! You do it the justice it greatly deserves! "And this sad little island is breaking my heart with it's dark shades of green!"
Spectacular covers of many genres, original music of various genres, multiple octave range, and scored music for Critical Role - You are an incredibly talented musician, vocalist and composer who puts out music I listen to over an over. Thank you.
Love that you didn't mask your accent for this one. Absolutely beautiful cover, mate.
I don’t know how you manage to out do yourself EVERY SINGLE TIME but you do and it’s bloody insane… LETS GOOOO 🧟♂️🤜🤛
Those lights improve metal music videos by at least 20%. I swear everyone gets them from the same garage somewhere in Sweden.
i struggle to find the words to adequately describe how well done this piece was, Colm. I always am actually nervous when I see an artist I like post a cover of Zombie because its such a hard song to truly do justice. But you were brilliant! This was a tribute more powerful than words, each little piece of this work fits together with the rest so very well. Its gentle and intense in all the right spots, the heavy and the triad instruments blended beatifully, the transitions give weight and punch...there's so much I could say about every little detail. Its all beautiful, Colm. Thank you.
Colm just did his own mix of The Cranberries and Bad Wolf.
Dude i seriously was just searching the other day for a Cranberries/Wolves mix, found some good ones but then i thought "man im sure colm could do a cool rendition..."
aaand here it is! also in time for men's mental health month! And for those that dont know how that corilates: the lead singer of the Cranberries was supposed to provide lyrics for Bad Wolves's rendition of the song, on the day that she was supposed to show up and sing, she ended her own life. So Bad Wolves finished and released the song in her honor.
✨💀✨ Очень люблю знакомые композиции в Вашем исполнении. Сейчас эта песня особенно актуальна. Спасибо!

I love your version of this so much! Shivers and goosebumps... only music can do that this way. Take care and thank you so much for sharing your music!
Sith vibes with the lights but angelic voice. Another home run.
Yet another masterpiece, what a voice! 😍 Thank you for blessing my ears once again!
From the first note I knew I'd love this version. Well done as always, beautiful, powerful, deep. It's perfect.
When I get the notification and drop everything to get my headphones so I can listen to this miracle properly. Amazing, just truly amazing, the guitar solo part takes me to another dimension. And the little extra magic from 3:53 - at least that's where I start to hear it in the background - , I love it. Thank you Colm ❤
Two versions of this song move me to tears, the original, and this.
You are absolutely amazing Colm ,wow ...totally blown away by all the songs I've heard recently 😊😊😘
Every song has a story to tell and this is one that has one two tell
This song gave me literal goosebumps. Great work, Colm! (P.S. you are my 9 year old's favorite performer of all time, and one of mine, too)
I got chills. Absolutely incredible. Yet another one of my favorite songs that I've listened to thousands of times that you've done an incredible cover of. Thank you for your uploads.
Spectacular rendition Love it❤!
Thank You Colm👍
I appreciate that in your softer sung parts you're letting your speaking accent come through. Too many non American artists slip into American way of pronouncing words while singing.
This cover is absolutely amazing!
Never heard this song before. I've just spent the last half hour reading about it (and could read for a lot longer). This song has a lot of history tied to it.
You’re the handsomest no good composer there ever was! This is absolutely incredible Colm! Big love from your dearest 😘 (Strings aren’t purple) x
The only cover that got me. The emotion in your voice is incredible. Thank you, Colm!
a great song and an equally great cover!
Don't let the Charismatic Voice find out about this...this would be too much for her & we can't afford to lose her in this cover...
Another terrific cover!! Your metal vocals are most outstanding. Also, I love your guitar solo. Do you have any original metal songs?
🤘
Seriously, Colm is a gift to the world.
Dolores O'Riordan would be proud.
Crazy goosebumps from the scream at the end
How about "in hell I'll be in good company?"
Never been moved to tears before by "screaming"... :') Just... magnificent work, Colm 😭
I LISTENED TO THIS SONG AFTER TWO YEARS AND NOW OUR COLM HAS RELEASED THSI COVER LESGOOOOOOOOOO
Was casually listening to some Irish dude sing a pretty song... Then I was blasted out of my headphones by what I can only describe as a rock deity. Hail Irish guy, full of range. The Lords of Metal be with thee! 😂
I love that your accent is clearly heard in this cover. Really makes it feel a bit more personal, I think.
I’m continuously impressed with your vocals, and Zombie really suits you. The video editing is really good!
for some reason, the fact that you're so damn good at singing makes it all the more astonishing when you're also THIS good at screaming. keep the metal covers comin', man!!! 🤘😝🤘
This was so amazing, you made it so intense and raw for a battle cry in a grievance.
Did this madlad actually pull out the bag pipe 🤘🤘😎😎
I keep coming back to to this wanting to comment, but I can never find the words. Everything about this - the composition, lighting/staging, switching from soft to growly vocals, just *everything* - is hard to wrap my head around. To call it an insanely brilliant cover is an understatement.
Thank you very much. I could not even imagine that I could hear such a thing. The whole body reacted with shock. Tears hail. Дуже дякую. Я навіть уявити не могла що можу таке почути. Увесь організм реагував шоком. Сльози градом.

This is one of the best covers that i have never heard, great job mate, you deserve it
I’ve only seen one man able to convey so many emotions in one song before…
He is that man.
What an amazing rendition, chilling. I still remember the first time I heard Dolores sing this song. I thought that this is what a soul sounded like, one that had been bruised and beaten.
My ma fled during the time of troubles. This song has always hit me hard. Your take on it is amazing.
jesus christ this goes so hard.

Hearing you scream like that was not something i expected but i need more
I never thought I'd be headbanging to Cranberries
