Oh my Gods...I never realized the man who sang I'm Still Here is the singer from The Goo-Goo Dolls! No wonder that song and Iris always made me think of each other! 😂
I am shook by the sheer talent on display here. The rasping screams, the soft lows, the metal guitars mixed with pipes and fiddles. . just. . . Never stop making music Colm. . .please.
the last bit with the metal guitars mixed with the folk instruments almost reminds me of something out of Bloodywood's catalog despite them being from a completely different part of the world!
Thank you 🙏🏼. We lost our son in the Army and this was the last song I sang to him at his funeral. He was a proud Irish ☘️ boy. This song had special meaning to him. You see he took his own life. RIP PFC Cody 🥾🪖🎖️🪖🎖️
With the light bars set to blue/purple, I kept expecting them to switch to red and Colm to tear into "Celtic rock" mode... and instead he just spent the full 3:52 reminding everyone that he's an incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist IN ADDITION TO being a professional composer and an internet sensation of a singer. Brava.
Goo Goo Dolls - Iris lyrics: And I'd give up forever to touch you 'Cause I know that you feel me somehow You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be And I don't wanna go home right now And all I can taste is this moment And all I can breathe is your life And sooner or later, it's over I just don't wanna miss you tonight And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am I just want you to know who I am Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming Or the moment of truth in your lies When everything feels like the movies Yeah, you bleed just to know you're alive And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am I just want you to know who I am And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am I just want you to know who I am I just want you to know who I am I just want you to know who I am
God, that edge of a scream in the first chorus feels like a heart breaking. Then that last chorus hits the chest like a truck. You more than did this song justice.
It really doesn’t matter what song, genre or setting you sing or play in. Every single song you produce is a masterpiece. Thank you for sharing your incredible talent with us.
None of these words are coming out right, but the last chorus is what the song always sounded like screamed from my heart when I was 20. Never thought I'd actually hear it with my ears.
I just recently tuned in the bass singers, the bass gang and others.. I appreciate the hard work put in all those videos, and songs. Thank you. I enjoy listening and watching them. I just watched your conversation with Peter Barber. I am so so glad to have a privilege to be a part of your admires ❤
God I remember this song from when I was a kid. I was only a toddler, barely a child in the latter half of the 2000s, but I was old enough to remember songs like this when my parents would play them on occasion. Iris, Shadow of The Day, The Kill and Sex is On Fire are the songs I remember the most from that time. Would love to see more covers of music like this
I can't wait for this song to hit spotify, I think this may be my favorite of your covers to date, which is saying a lot. The emotion you pour into this performance is incredible and does this song so much justice! And the instrumentals are perfect, and the build up to that heart-wrenching last few lines? Chef's kiss, amazing.
"Iris" is one of the most memory laden songs in my life, and this version is absolutely wonderful. There are times I've listened to the song and felt like the quiet, resigned sound Johnny used was perfect. Other times, it feels like it needs to build to this seething rage against the vagaries of fate and the pain of the world. You've captured that so perfectly here. Thank you for sharing this. I don't know if I needed it today, but I will at some point down the road.
A subtle detail at the end that just left me loving this more than before. He lets out that last chorus and lets out that last breath followed by just pure emotion from the moment. That was more than singing my friend. There was something personal there. I havent seen someone feel music like you do in a while. Thank you for this masterpiece.
Iris is probably the song that means the most to me in the entire world, and it's really rare that I come across a cover of it that I like. This one is in some ways very different than the original, but stirs my soul in all the same ways, and I love it. And the yell at the end is just perfect. It reinforces the pain and loneliness, which I think is the backbone of the original but sometimes gets diminished in covers.
This song has always had a very special place in my heart, and your arrangement mixed with the rawness of your vocals... wow, absolutely floored me, man. I honestly think this is my favorite cover you've ever done. 10/10, gonna have this on loop for the rest of the weekend.
I'm sending this to my mom. She's the one that got me hooked on this song. Your cover is so full of emotion like you're waiting for it to boil into a good solid cry. It is so hauntingly beautiful...captivating. that's the word.
As someone who loves your covers, loves this song, and is a hopeless romantic who cannot express how he feels to that someone, this song hits right in the feels. Really touching and powerful, and a killer ending. Great job, Colm
I was speechless the first listen but now I think I have enough words for a comment. This song was a big part of my youth. I was a very angsty teenager. You managed to take a song that’s already one of the most iconic songs of its time and elevate it in ways I didn’t think were possible. Well done, Colm, well done.
When I saw the lighting for this video, I just knew that there'd be some Metal aspect in here at some point. I was shocked that we made it through most of the song without a single drop of metal, and then at the last second it was slapped across our faces like a gift from the metal gods. Well played.
Was going to say it's a hell of a range to go from wanting to go on a viking raid in one song to wanting to slow dance with a lover in the other...but then you killed it when the ending and proved you can do both without breaking a sweat. Well done! Another favorite done 10/10.
Already 13 days ago? How could I miss this? My favourite artist with one of my favourite songs - Thank you so much!! Your version ist absolutely beautiful ❤
I've been playing this song almost everyday from the first time I heard it. This cover hit a really special spot in my heart and to see the emotion put in this video just drives it home. Incredible. 👌👌
Besides being an amazing singer, I have such a soft spot for that wonderful accent. My father used to work on the London busses during the 60s and all the drivers were Irish. He picked up that wonderful Irish lilt. To me its so cozy.
Cello, Violin, accoustic guitar, penny whistle also black backdrop and sweaters - effing awesome. Gave it a little extra in the right places, but still remained faithful to the original, totally loved it.
Somehow I stumbled across your music today, and I'm so glad I did. Iris is one of my all-time favorite songs, laden with more personal meaning than I could ever hope to summarize in a few sentences, and your cover of it sent me into full-blown tears and a catharsis I didn't know I needed. Thank you for sharing your musical gifts with the world. It's a blessing to us all.
Colm, this is one the songs for my wife and I. We loved it and played it for our daughter when she was born and struggling those first couple of months. I would play this song to get her to sleep. Now, she loves your songs, and I bet she is going to lose her mind when she hears your rendition. This brought tears to my eyes.
Growing up where the band originated, my mother has had such an infatuation with the Goo Goo Dolls all her life, and she instilled that into me at a very young age. Thank you for doing one of my favorite songs ever such justice, bud.
This is truly the best version of this song I have ever heard. This blew my mind. Easily one of the best musicians I've ever had the pleasure of listening to!
wow this really hit that spot for me. this song is my calm in the storm and my reminder that things will be alright. hearing from you in your unique style gave me absolute chills
I don’t often comment on videos, but when I do, it’s because it witnessed something damn special. @Colm_R_McGuiness , bravo, good sir, bravo. Very handsomely played!
I just wanted to say thank you again for the love and feelings that you put into every song and every cover. it's priceless. I wish you warmth and inspiration to do what your heart wants.
man... the decision to partially lean into your metal vocals against the (mostly) soft instrumentals gives this cover so much more emotion. This is an amazing cover
Well, geez, RUclips stopped sending me your vids for some reason.. even though I'm subbed n"all-- I said to myself, "where the hell has Colm been?" .. so I searched, found this, and literally CRIED! You are such an awesome musician!
This is breathtaking. You took something that was always emotionally charged and you just ripped it wide open. This is so beautifully arranged, and elegant, and it evokes such raw passion. I love this and I love your music. Thank you for this.
Thanks for watching! Drop any suggestions below! 🙏
'Wish I was back home in Derry' purleeeeze
🌬 "Dust in the Wind"
I think it would be a good cover too with your style. 👀
Awesome cover, I loved it! 💜
The hammer and the anvil song
I'd love to see a Ghost Riders in the Sky cover from you. With your absolutely beastly bass vocals itd be amazeballs
dust in the wind would be awsome especially like a tavern version@@leticiarosa8460
As someone who grew up with Treasure Planet, this song has some deep rooted nostalgia, thank you so much for doing this
Agreed, both Iris and I'm Still Here are both great nostalgia songs... they have very similar feels and themes. Definitely peak Goo Goo Dolls.
He does the song from treasure planet and does a great job, you should listen to it.
Treasure Planet and City of Angels, both under rated gems with kickass Goo Goo Dolls songs.
Oh my Gods...I never realized the man who sang I'm Still Here is the singer from The Goo-Goo Dolls! No wonder that song and Iris always made me think of each other! 😂
@@WulfyFang3 Me either! I'm totally mindblown. And I have both songs in my favorite playlist. 🤣
I am shook by the sheer talent on display here. The rasping screams, the soft lows, the metal guitars mixed with pipes and fiddles. . just. . . Never stop making music Colm. . .please.
Colm is my favorite solo artist making content right now, I try to push out his music to everyone I can.
the last bit with the metal guitars mixed with the folk instruments almost reminds me of something out of Bloodywood's catalog despite them being from a completely different part of the world!
One of my favourite songs of all time covered by the epic Irish man with a wide vocal range. Amazing job, Colm.
I feel most songs can be upgraded with the addition of an Irish accent.
Just about everything can be upgraded with an Irish accent.
And whiskey
@@ExHavicTrue, whiskey is also upgraded by an Irish accent.
Even among Irish accents, this dude is friggin' amazing
@@cassandrasimplex7544 and an irish accent is upgraded by whiskey. a beautiful circle
Most covers fail to capture the yearning and desperation in the lyrics. This one does not. Heartbreaking and beautiful, as it should be. ❤
THIS
I think it's the grit in his voice. Most covers are too smooth. Colm sang it like he meant every word!
Not sure what covers of this you listen to then, Breaking Benjamin and Jonathan Young did great
Agreed. Iris is, first and foremost, a song about pain. And a lot of covers lose that, but not this one.
I agree with everyone here it is the heartbroken sounding voice that most covers cannot get, but Colm's does
This is my wife's favorite song forever. We had no idea how bad we needed you go cover it. 11/10
Thank you 🙏🏼. We lost our son in the Army and this was the last song I sang to him at his funeral. He was a proud Irish ☘️ boy. This song had special meaning to him. You see he took his own life. RIP PFC Cody 🥾🪖🎖️🪖🎖️
Condolences at your loss. 😢
As a Vietnam vet--You comment brought tear to my eyes--my condolences for your loss,
🫂🙏
I'm sorry for your loss. 💞🙏
So sorry for your loss.

My man, I cant even begin to tell you how beautiful this is. You absolutely killed it, and it sounds like you put your soul into this one.
The vocals of this are insane. Colm you're easily one of the best singers of our generation, hands down
That last chorus when the heavy kicked in gave me chills, so intense
So amazingly intense, I have to go back and keep listening to it.
Seriously, I nearly sobbed. Took me back to hearing it the first time when I was an emotional teenager back in the 90's.
This man is a national treasure for Ireland.
Dude is ripped, makes fantastic music, and has incredible talent and character. What a beast, cheers mate 🍻
Goo Goo Dolls - Iris lyrics:
And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't wanna go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later, it's over
I just don't wanna miss you tonight
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know you're alive
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
