Our next battle of Bolt Action returns to the eastern front for our next installment of our Bolt Action Barbarossa Campaign battle report #6: The 2nd Battle of Kharkov.

Will the Germans continue there advance towards Moscow and Stalingrad or will the soviet red army push them back…
The German army has dug in outside Kharkov and are set to repel the advancing Russian army across the steppe.
The two armies will go head to head in a battle to control the main route to Kharkov.
Bolt Action Battle Report: Campaign Operation Barbarossa… The campaign playing through the invasion of Russia seeing us battle the Operation Barbarossa campaign from the Russian steppes through to Stalingrad and Operation Uranus and hopefully back to the fall of Berlin!!!
Utilising the rule and Campaign Books we will play through different scenarios to see who will win the war on the eastern front.
This week we play a scenario comprising of an inexperienced Soviet army under the orders of Stalin push towards Kharkov, in an adapted scenario - Michael’s soviet force will be take the main road and push forward, whilst the German force will take the a defensive position.
This scenario, sees the two armies going head to head for a winner takes all battle to the death.
See the battle unfold as the Germans race to secure the road to Kharkov, the Soviets will hold to the last to save Mother Russia.
Warlord Games figures and their Bolt Action rules we are all set for a thrilling and desperate race to the objective and to win.
Another great battle, fantastic board and a few laughs and banter along the way…
…but who will win, watch and see!

In spite of the one-sided nature of the affair, really enjoyed this one. With a large Soviet and early German army, we've played out several scenarios from the Warlord Stalingrad book and frankly they more times than not don't play out like history. Your scenarios have been playing out well. I'd like to see you do some invasion of France with early blitzkrieg tactics.
Thanks 👍🏻 yes these are playing out similar to history but with another fair few battles to go we will be playing to Stalingrad and then but to Berlin… so lots of decent terrain to build and paint 😂
I would love to do the invasion of France and also operation Sea lion… but that’ll have to be for another time, but definitely on our radar 👍🏻

The fighting around Kotluban, northwest of Stalingrad, is also fertile ground for great battle scenarios in more open country, but your going to have to buy and make/paint some Soviet T-60 light tanks for such 1942 battles around the city. The German 16th Pz. Div. will thank you because they're easier to fight than T-34/76s and KV-1Ss!

Okay, I'm confused. Given that your game series is entitled "Campaign Operation Barbarossa", why then didn't you do the First Battle of Karkov which actually occurred during Operation Barbarossa rather than this second battle which happened months after Operation Barbarossa had come to an end? That being said, the game was a visual treat and you both seemed to have fun presiding over the slaughter of the poor elements of the Red Army who were consumed in this holocaust of fire.
The mini's were lovely, the tanks and other vehicles far too clean and the fieldworks looked very good indeed as well. So aside from being baffled I thoroughly enjoyed this video battle report while shedding a silent tear or two for the Soviet PBI who were mowed down so completely. Thank you for for taking the time and making the effort to research, play and share your game with us. Your work in the hobby is much appreciated. Huzzah! Huzzah!

Thank you, the campaign is actually going to go to Stalingrad… then all the way back to Berlin… so we know its not really Barbarossa as the war progresses, but we are having it as a campaign name to represent the initial campaign. We will struggle to get all the battles in so are selecting some key battles, but will be heading to Stalingrad within the next couple of battles.
We are already planning Berlin as I want to have the Reichstag and some cool city scenes for the final battle!
Maybe we should have called it Ostfront! 🧐
Highlight for me was Sommerville taking an 88 to the face and brushing it off like it was nothing.
