  • Glen Scotia 10 Year Old Scotch Whisky Review. A great pour, but how much will the low bottling strength hold it back?

    Scores:
After my initial score I add or subtract points relative on how I perceive value (based on what I paid for the bottle). A zero value means I think the price is justified.
0-69.5 - Don’t bother trying, life is too short for bad spirit.
70-79.5 - Worth trying, but you’re not missing out if you don’t.
    80-84.5 - I recommend trying.
    85-87.5 - Definitely try this!
    88-91.5 - I recommend buying a bottle blind!
92-95.5 - Stuff you reserve for special pours!
96+ - The meaning of life.

Might be a good bottle for people not quite used to higher abv?? And trying to get into sipping neat whiskey?

Would definitely be great for a beginner wanting to try Campbelltown whisky

Haven't done a lot of legwork, but I see this bottle as available as the 15 is here in the US. Maybe that has something to do with the oddly high price.

Shame about the 40%, I'd even be happy with 43% but hey ho it is a tasty dram and so is the double cask. It's obvious with this new management cask selection is of importance and we appreciate it. Cheers 🥃

The SMWS releases first full bourbon casks around the 9 year age statement non stop, they are exactly what you expect from this 10 year in cask strength. Intense tropical fruits with minerals and salt.
Try to find one on auction, would love to see a comparison!

$80 US for the 15 and $64 for the Double Cask. I've never seen this and kinda glad because I scoff at 40% but I really like GS and that would make me aad. Unless its $35.

In my market (Northeast US), the price structure a little more rational w/ this is typically around at US$65. That's against US$85 for the 15 and US$90 for the Victoriana. Cheers.

I haven’t tried the 10, but I’m a big fan of their festival releases. I’ve recently cracked a bottle of “The Mermaid” 12 year too. I paid up for that one at their distiller shop(£90). I was surprised to see that Glen Scotia prices in California are a bit cheaper than in Campbeltown. A bit weird. Certainly not the norm. Cheers.

Yeah I've sampled this and was equally amazed by how good it drinks at 40%!
I just can't help but wonder if it would be really amazing at 46 or 50%?
    Nice one Jeremy, cheers!

Funny that you said it, Glen Scotia released a travel retail exclusive that is a 10yo Cask Strength. It was last year or so...

I was surprised too, Jer, at how much I liked this. $85 in the SAQ. The 15 is north of $100. Glen Scotia is my jam. Hoping prices will creep downwards a bit though.

Yea I was excited to see this 10 year old bottling and thought to get it but then saw it was 40% and dismissed it. Glad it’s a good one though. Can’t go wrong with Glen Scotia.

      Thanks for the review, Jeremy.
I too had seen but dismissed it because of the abv. In my market it's a bit more expensive than the Double Cask but a fair bit less than the 15 which jumped nearly 50% in price a couple of years ago and is not widely/rarely available. The abv still seems amiss given that the slightly cheaper Double Cask is 46%.

Heya, Random q. Have you tried the Longrow 21 (2023)? The price is going up and it seems to be sitting around. Curious if it’s perhaps a bad (or not so good) batch? Thanks!
