Sounded really good. I love Tamdhu, though I have not had this 18 year. I actually prefer a little more bold influence. Thanks for sharing!

I just found this at my local big box liquor store for $200 before tax. I may give it a go now. Thanks for the honest and informative review. Super helpful.

I enjoy their 15 yo as well, but to be honest, prices are simply too high for many of us. Thanks Jeremy for a very fine and detailed review. Kindest regards, S.

Great reviewJeremy. Keep them coming. Do you think the Tamdhu 18 is worth the price difference vs the Tamdhu 15? Thanks

I just tried tamdhu 12 and 15 and then drank my Macallan 12 and 15 double cask at the same sitting. Holy cow they are replicas! But the Tamdhu is a little bit more flavorful and has more enhanced notes. I totally agree It’s better and is a Macallan killer. And I’m saying this after being introduced to scotch by Macallan and being a loyal Macallan fanboy. Can’t wait to try the Tamdhu 18!

Have tried the Tamdhu 12 and 15 and think they too are better than the Macallan equivalents. I have a bottle of the 18 too, but am yet to open it.

Love the Glenallachie 18. Even if they were priced the exact same, I’d take it over the MacAllan 18 any day.

Arran 18, Bunna 18, Glendro 18, amd Glenallachie 18 are decent in their own right but they are different profile than Macallan. Tamdhu 18 is really the same profile as Macallan.

Great Review Jeremy. I have been saying this is the Macallan alternative for a long time... I also liked the Glenturret for that role, but honestly Glenturret has got too expensive...

    • @SippersSocialClub
      @SippersSocialClub  11 месяцев назад +1

I agree, even though Glenturret drinks older, it's still quite a lot. Do they have a 18? Or it just bumps to 25?

Got my first one of these as a Christmas present for myself. First couple of drams were having me think of a Independent Glenturret 17 sherry puncheon I got the year before. Now that it's down a bit it's really coming into it's own. Never had Macallan 18 but at todays prices I never will. Very nice bottle. Cheers Jeremy

Getting a bit tired of Glenallachie. Too many wood finishes to mask so so spirit. Billy Walker is putting out a lot of mediocre liquid.

@@pharmacistsdoitoverthecoun5012 I completely agree with you on that. Billy is having to work through much of his older stuff while his new stuff gets better and better. We still have time, but Tamdhu is where it’s at now for great sherry.

That Tamdhu 18 is $267 here in NC, a control state. Looks nice but I'm still too much of a novice to pursue that. I'd likely go for a Glenallachie 12 before a Tamdhu.

    • @SippersSocialClub

@@SippersSocialClub Indeed true Jeremy. Special order too.
Just as a somewhat related FYI, I special-ordered an Isle Of Arran 10 last Nov 1 (year ago), still haven't gotten it. Spoke with my ABC agent of my county here, and it doesn't seem to be their fault; apparently Arran or its distributor cancelled my order twice without letting my ABC agent know, so we both were in the dark this whole time. She found out that the reason it was cancelled was because I ordered a 750ml bottle and they're moving to only 700ml bottles. She said she'd follow up on it, but I've seen Arran 10 700ml bottles being more expensive than their 750ml counterparts. So everyone's getting expensive, including Arran apparently.
My concern is American whiskies will be going the way of 700ml bottles soon. Jack Daniel's already is doing that with some of their bottlings, and it's rather cynical IMO.

I feel like it is difficult to find really good 18yr stuff, it seems to be at a weird point in which it’s expensive but without providing the expected quality. Will certainly keep an eye out for Tamdhu 18 following your recommendation. Though it’s age statement doesn’t match I think Michael Couvreur Overaged Malt or Auld Blossoming Malt offer really exceptional Sherry cask whisky, certainly worth trying if you haven’t yet.

@@SippersSocialClubexactly, it’s like there’s been a coordinated strategy within the industry to raise prices across the age stated categories. As is stands there are far less age stated whiskys, particularly older ones, that justify their price. Not surprising new distillery’s are flourishing in the current market.
