The secret to dancing to Madness? If you care about how you look, you're doing it wrong.
Absolutely bang on
@@carldyson9342 bugger, that's where i went wrong lol
Exactly. You have to let yourself go.
Fuck art, let's dance!!!
Takes me back to the late 70's early 80's.I have always loved Madness and still do all these years later. Keep up the good work you are a top man.
Madness are so much fun.
Was a great time to be a teenager, miss those days.
Still got my fish tail in the wardrobe lol.
Right?! Best era to have been a teenager!
@@albamartinez4987 Apart from The 1960s in London where we were the World Centre for Music, Theatre,Fashion,Photography and The Arts :)
Apart from The 1960s in London where we were the World Centre for Music, Theatre,Fashion,Photography and The Arts :)
This is ska music on two tone music records. There are some excelent two tone bands on that label. As far as dancing is concerned... there is now set way to dance, just move in rhythm to you ... thats the key
Please try listening to the Jam. Try Going Underground - I really think you'll like it.
GREAT SONG BY A GREAT BAND ALSO LOVE THE STRANGLERS GREAT MUSIC SCENE IN EARLY 1980'S BRITAIN.
@@Mikex973 can't beat that dirty stranglers bass, love it
in an open concert in London- Finsbury Park, when they played this song, the crowd was jumping so hard - IT CAUSED AN EARTHQUAKE!
Glad you're loving a bit of Madness, I personally don't know a single person who doesn't like them. 😁🕶️🎷💛
Yeah bud there a twat at work who doesn’t like them
the wings of a dove
Woah woah 🕶️🎷🕴️🎶
One Step Beyond was a cover version, originally done by the Godfather of ska Prince Buster, who was an inspiration etc.... for Madness. The hey you intro by Chas Smash,is based on an intro to a Prince Buster song called Scorcher.
The little fun pieces before the start of each video, aren't actually part of the main video. They appeared on the Madness greatest hits video release back in the day.
One Step Beyond was a call to arms to us all back then.
Madness.....the band that put the fun back into British music.
A lot of pubs over here in the UK at one point banned DJs playing this record as when it came on everybody went nuts dancing where ever they stood, thus leading to lots of beer getting knocked over and glasses broken, all in good fun though, never any trouble.
This was my jam when I used to play pool a lot on my teens, always put it on the jukebox, gets you hype, ONE STEP BEYOND!
Such a great tune!!
a bugger to play on bass though
For those people, like me, who like to nerd out a bit:
Ska shares a common origin with Reggae and Rocksteady (they even mention Rocksteady in this clip) in Jamaica, dating back to at least the 50s, but possibly the 40s, very likely, actually. What most people around the world identify as Ska is actually the second generation of Ska that spread from the UK; which Madness is a part of.
The first wave came from Jamaica, but in the post-war period, Jamaica being a part of the British Commonwealth was given preferential treatment for its immigrants to the UK to help rebuild the country after the war. That's how Ska made its way to the UK. And, because Jamaican immigrants settled in very working-class neighborhoods, many white Britons adopted the genre. Ska was, in essence, a very working-class youth genre in the UK in the first decade or so.
In the 70s, when Punk music broke out in the UK, many of its aspects, like the high energy and electronic instruments (and some post-punk) fused with the earlier Ska to create what you see here: second-wave ska. Ironically, this also coincided with much of the Thatcher period. I say ironic because Thatcher was very conservative in the Cold War drive while most UK Ska bands were very racially integrated; as were the audiences, and tended to have a very strong working class and militant anti-racist stand.
Third generation Ska isn't really that interesting (with perhaps my personal liking of the band Save Ferris). In general, it was a 90s American suburbanite pop-infused thing that was empty of any significant social lyrics.
Most of you may not know this, but this song by Madness is actually a cover of Prince Buster's original version. In fact, their name "Madness" also comes from a Prince Buster song; along with their song of the same name. Prince Buster's considered the godfather of Ska. I leave the link below to the original version of "One Step Beyond."

Originally done by Prince Buster, Madness does a great song dedicated to Buster called The Prince
Edit: They were called The Nutty Boys
Mentions Buster before song starts - "Hey You" etc...
What an absolute bangin track, it just never gets old.
We can all see that Madness brings you pleasure.....
For some strange reason, watching Madness skipping about on stage really does make me want to go watch a Bad Manners chooon with Buster Bloodvessel strutting his stuff......
Special Brew lol
At school disco in 1981. The boys all danced like this. Didn't care. Great stuff.
When I watched them live it went crazy with this and Night Boat to Cairo
Madness - the sun and the rain. Classic.
You can't help but bop along to this band!
i like this song, the funniest bit is the start where they are on the stairs singing! haha
That was in a pub called the hope and anchor ( Islington, London)
Madness are such a fun group and bloody great music 👍👍
Ska and twotone is classic British music also try some northern soul that's got some proper dance moves going on 🙂🙂
Keep the faith
They are funny, glad you like these catchy numbers, great review and good moves going on 🐺man🤣👍🇬🇧👍🇺🇸
Fun fact Madness did not want this released as a single so they only recorded 1min 30secs of the song, they didn’t know the record company could loop , cut, extend or overdub, to make it into a 3 minute classic single, this was their second single. The little intro bits , before each video were made much later for the video compilation , they were not on the original.
Great fact gary...
Really needed that today, enjoyed 🕴🏽✌🏼
The first band I was ever into. Spent all my pocket money on their albums as a real young kid. House of Fun was the second record I ever bought. Must have been 8 years old.
Love it, this is from their first LP 1979, great LP check it out.
I think the sax player was classically trained but found joining Madness much more fun :)
The Grammy that year for best male vocal performance went to Lee Thompson

Hey bro! I'm loving all these Madness reactions! Did you know there is a Madness film called "Take It Or Leave It" which is a bipic of how they became a band. It's from about 1982 and they all play themselves. It's great fun! Might be a bit long for a full reaction but if youre enjoying Madness I definitely recommend checking it out :-)
Just checked - the film is on RUclips so very easy to check out :-)

Thanks fam!
Lee who played the sax he is the heart and soul of band if he left the band Madness would not continue, they don't have Chas (backing vocals trumpet and harmonica and sometimes main vocals) and they lost the energy
Try “ the jam” maybe “town called malice”?

Not all great songs need many lyrics
