MADNESS IS SOMETHING NEW GUYS THANKS FOR THIS ONE LOL!!!
Well Done Guys. ALWAYS get the accompanying video with Madness songs like "Our House" and many others because they were a very successful London Ska/Rock Steady Band from Te 1980s but they are typically English and deliberately self-deprecating and funny hence the silly dancing :) They are mostly, CHELSEA F C Supporters and the whole Chelsea crowd often break into this when celebrating.A perfect example of this and well worth watching is this RUclips Video: " Chelsea EPIC LIQUIDATOR, ONE STEP BEYOND, Amsterdam ". It is 4 minutes and Chelsea of London were playing AWAY in The Netherlands ....:) ENJOY and keep up the good work...
You’ll find most Ska to be about having some fun and positive messages
Just so you know that’s how all cockneys move cockneys for anyone who doesn’t know are people from London in the U.K. from the minute cockneys wake up they move like this on their way to and from work to picking the kids up from school to going to the supermarket they are extraordinary creatures lol 🤣😂😝🤦🏻♂️😆🤷🏻♂️
Great reaction guys x Madness did several tracks mainly instrumental but i know that you's would love their other big hits especially Baggy Trousers, House of fun and Our House xx
Madness is great! I saw them in Daytona in 1983 in a free concert. I was about 2 feet from the stage.
Madness are a UK national tressure 🤣love 'em
About time you guys got to some ska. The Specials and The Beat were also great bands.
For sure. Bad Manners, The Selector. It was a great Era for Ska
In America, they were called The English Beat!
@@jonathanmelia I saw them play in Toronto after Just Can't Stop It was released. I have never had so much fun.
@@Alsatiagent I saw them in a small club in New York City back in the day. What a great concert!
I strongly second the (English) Beat recommendation. Mirror in the Bathroom, Save it for Later, Rotating Head, Ranking Full Stop, Stand Down Margarette. Fantastic stuff. Go feet to the Beat!
If you want more Madness I recommend Night Boat to Cairo, Shut Up, My Girl, Baggy Trousers and House of Fun... you can't go wrong! :D
Baggy Trousers for sure.
shut up is defo underrated, and the sun and the rain and embarassment
Madness madness
My 3 recommendations would be Shut Up, Baggy Trousers, and Our House!
Madness we’re great in the early days .. got too commercial for me later on .. this was a good album.
Biggest selling band in the U.K. throughout the 80's. They were known affectionately as the Nutty boys.
"Baggy trousers", "Night boat to Cairo", "Grey day", "It must be love", "In the city", "Our house", "House of fun" are all great tunes.
Their newer stuff, though less well known is excellent too. Tracks like Johnny the Horse, Drip fed Fred, Mr Apples and Never knew your name are just as good as their earlier stuff.
Night boat to Cairo is still my favorite Madness song.
And one more for the record, they are still touring
@@timothymoynihan8063 Me too!!
Fun facts, this band caused the earthquake richter scal to go off with this song at a festival in 1996. And it's been over 40 years since they started and they've just announced thier next UK gig. They also performed on the top of Buckingham Palace. We love you Suggs and Co. Xx
The band members were, Suggs, Chas Smash, Kix, Monsieur Barso, Chrissy Boy, Bedders and Woody
Also known as Suggs= Graham McPherson. Chas Smash=Chas Smash. Bedders =Mark Bedford. Woody =Dan Woodgate
Now you gotta do Madness “Our House.” Really fun song and video.
Our House, and House of Fun!
Someone may have said this already, but the song is actually a cover of an old Prince Buster song. Prince Buster was a huge Jamaican ska singer of the 60s. Definitely worth a listen, especially Hard Man Fe Dead and Take It Easy.
Good info...
Prince buster did the vocals on the original but the credit should go to the backing band called the Skatalites. They were the people who truly gave ska it's best sound
Oh yeah Prince buster I have the original I was going to say the record but the CD Prince buster was great!!!
Also Prince buster train to girls town
That's my young teenhood right there. And I'm 50...
HELL YEAHHHH
Yeh man, and me....
As someone else said, a famous 80's British band. A cross between New Wave and Ska. This is a good one and they have many others. "Our House" was probably their biggest hit by far and a really good one. "It must be love" and "House of Fun" are two of my favs.
they arent a cross between new wave and ska they are a ska band!
on second thought, I think you're right. either ska or ska punk is probably more accurate.
@@kristybob_toothpaste 2tone
Bad Manners, Madness, the specials! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️
🇧🇷☝️🇺🇸☝️🇬🇧☝️
Seem like you two have a great relationship! You’re one lucky man, dude!
Love madness. Cheers, fae Scotland! 🏴
One hell of a band to see live saw them 3 years ago and still brilliant
I saw them in '83 in Daytona.
That's amazing, i didn't know they were still active!
A lot of their early songs like this one were covers of classic ska songs from the 60s. This one originally by Prince Buster. Went on to do many original songs too and still going 40 years on but with only 6 of the original 7 members I believe
7 wonders of the world
Their name, Madness, is a Prince Buster song too.
Madness were also one of the “Two Tone” Bands.😀
They were everyone's favourite band.
Not everyone ! I liked them. Favourite though is O.T.T. . I was into the cure Souxsie and the Banshees . The cult . The clash etc ...but I liked madness the Specials and aaaa I cant remember the name of the big guy with the shaved head and his tongue 😂😂✌
@@maz41617B buster blood vessel, the band were (bad manners) 😉
As an old stager from the UK who's enjoyed Madness for 40 years, I love that you kids are loving this too. Madness are legends
Now this is England,...I think
This was one of the first 'Videos' back in the day. Warms my heart y'all 'get it'. For another treat from Madness try House of Fun.
Suggs, the lead singer of this band, is a die hard fan of Chelsea Football Club, a football (soccer) team based in London. Everytime Chelsea win a game at home, this is the 1st song they play in the stadium's speakers.
Ska was a great time in British music and that’s coming from an old Rocker, These guys came up from just being a pub band to Stardom with their fun filled Ska.
That sax solo!!!! Brilliant
Our House, was their only big hit in America, but they have been popular for years, over in the U.K.
A fun song they sing, is " Shame and Scandal".
We heard 'It must be love' and 'House of Fun' they use to get plenty of play of MTV when they use to play only music videos, they were fun videos to watch it.
The guitarist in this band (Chris Foreman) used to live a couple of doors down from me when I was a kid, this was during the time they were really big in the UK.
Great band , with some great tunes, have saw them live several times, "Night Boat to Cairo" and "Baggy Trousers" are another couple of excellent dance tunes 😊
This was a video when the song first came that EVERYONE (no matter who you were) loved. I am very happy to see your guys have stumbled on to "Madness." If you already haven't check it out, please check "Once in a Lifetime" by the Talking Heads. That is another classic video you will never forget. Trust me! : )
I LOVE THIS SONG and I love that you guys love it too!
This kind of music comes from Jamaica. It's called ska. It caught on in England in the late 70s and then later in the US. Hence the band Madness and others like The Specials and The (English) Beat.
This song officially registers on the Richter scale - check out the live performance from Finsbury Park :-D
As others have said, "Our House" by Madness was also very popular
Yep. This was pretty much an instrumental (as was Return of the Los Palmos 7). Next, you have GOT to watch Night Boat to Cairo
Are you sure the little things aren't just further away !
A great bunch of musicians who never took themselves to seriously
The specials - Rat race. You’re gonna love it! Same time period and genre
Aahh, old school Madness - most would recommend 'Baggy Trousers', but you could also try out 'Tomorrow's Just Another Day', '(Waiting For The) Ghost Train' and an old classic 'Our House'.
live performance is best house of fun, baggy trousers etc (tunes to make u dance)
Should check out The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, songs I suggest are The Impression That I Get, The Raacal King or Kinder Words just to name a few.
Seen Madness live in concert, believe me you cant stand still, top band. The videos are always funny, you need to see more
"I love little things!"
THE LOOK ON HIS FACE WHEN SHE SAID THAT - PRICELESS!
Give - Madness - Nightboat to Cairo at Pinkpop 2009 a try - There are some kids dancing on stage with the band, they are the children of the singers and are about your age
IT'S-ABOUT-DAMN-TIME!!!!
Follow the SKA Rabbit Hole. I would go from a Van Halen Show to a Ska Show in one weekend.
Ska is Dance Hall. Ska is Fashion. Ska is BLACK AND WHITE REBELLING TOGETHER.
SKA IS ALL
I love maddnes and I love ska music its so uplifting thank you guys
Nightboat to Cairo next please
Play this anywhere in Britain & everybody gets up and starts to do wonderful crazy dancing
The best part is that guy at 4:23. He has been cracking me up since the 1980s!!
The guy at 4.35 is best 🤣
@@philtheecow3404 YES!!! That's awesome!!! W A K E U P!!!! (Crap, it's Monday!)
Cathal Smyth, AKA "Chas Smash" who does the intro and the lead vocals here, wasn't even part of the band when this video was made. Heck he's not even in the cover picture of the album.
- So what is he even doing here?
Well he was the band's original bass player but left to pursue other interests. Leaving under friendly terms, he always came around when the band had gigs and became the band's party dude, joining them on stage where for the heck of it, they had him recite the rap instead of usual lead singer Graham "Suggs" McPherson.
So when the band were recording their first album they went "We HAVE to include 'One step beyond!' " and knowing how well Chas did that song live, they brought him in and he KILLED IT. From that on, Chas re-joined the band officially, playing trumpet and doing the occasional lead vocal but in general being there to create mayhem on stage.
The baby saxophone is an actual instrument, a soprano sax. The bigger version is, I think, a tenor
If you liked this try their other big hit, "Our House"
I`m sure it`s worth more than that.
Seen Madness twice in concert. Its a party atmosphere. They eventually, played down from their early high tempo rhythm. To address mosh-pit crowd troubles. Hence why later Madness songs, are more mellow.
Night Boat to Cairo and Our House would be 2 more madness songs to listen to
Madness greatest band to come out of England in the late 70s
Love madness, I miss that Ska sound.
Small saxophone.
"A flute?"
LOL !!
Not the sharpest tool in the box is she.
Bless.
There is a band called The Selector, They did Ska & had a mixed races and a woman lead singer. They were about breaking cultural barriers. It set them apart and they're awesome. You should do a reaction to On My Radio & Too Much Pressure. You'll love these songs.
This was one of the first songs M Tv played. Watched it on hijacked cable, when you could still do that , about 1980-81
There was a ska revival that started in the late 70's and early 80s and carries on today, it never went away and there is a huge Ska scene worldwide. Check out Prince Buster, early Byron Lee, etc. etc. etc.
Tha happiest banda ever!!! Who wouldn't enjoy being a member of madness for a day? Or being one of their roadies?
The bit on the stairs at the beginning was one of a number of specially filmed clips for a video compilation, originally released on VHS in 1992.
For those people, like me, who like to nerd out a bit:
Ska shares a common origin with Reggae and Rocksteady (they even mention Rocksteady in this clip) in Jamaica, dating back to at least the 50s, but possibly the 40s, very likely, actually. What most people around the world identify as Ska is actually the second generation of Ska that spread from the UK; which Madness is a part of.
The first wave came from Jamaica, but in the post-war period, Jamaica being a part of the British Commonwealth, was given preferential treatment for its immigrants to the UK to help rebuild the country after the war. That's how Ska made its way to the UK. And, because Jamaican immigrants settled in very working-class neighborhoods, many white Britons adopted the genre. Ska was, in essence, a very working-class youth genre in the UK in the first decade or so.
In the 70s, when Punk music broke out in the UK, many of its aspects, like the high energy and electronic instruments (and some post-punk) fused with the earlier Ska to create what you see here: second-wave ska. Ironically, this also coincided with much of the Thatcher period. I say ironic, because Thatcher was very conservative in the Cold War drive while most UK Ska bands were very racially integrated; as were the audiences and tended to have a very strong working class and militant anti-racist stand.
Third generation Ska isn't really that interesting (with perhaps my personal liking of the band Save Ferris). In general it was a 90s American suburbanite pop infused thing that was empty of any significant social lyrics.
Most of you may not know this, but this song by Madness is actually a cover of Prince Buster's original version. In fact, their name "Madness" also comes from a Prince Buster song; along with their song of the same name. Prince Buster's considered the godfather of Ska. I leave the link below of the original version of "One Step Beyond."

They are ska are the two tune time and bad manners and specials great song and good music they have lots of songs to listen to
Britain...cold weather, iffy food, wonky teeth ...but a love of great music and to dance. We get it . Most of the Jazz , soul , R & B vinyl pressed in the USA is now probably over here :D
Madness’ biggest hits are Our House and House of Fun. They are regular songs with lyrics and choruses. One Step Beyond is almost an instrumental. It Must Be Love is also good, but a bit slower than the others.
House Of 😳Fun is a banger
Welcome to the wacky genius of Madness ‼️😁
damn.. ska was big when I was young.. I was really into it in the first half of high school.. Streetlight Manifesto, Reel Big Fish, Goldfinger, Mustard Plug, The Toasters, Operation Ivy..
A great band i was 14 back in 1979 when that song came out.
Nine'o' Clock in f... cold germany and I'm jumping around my table! Good morning and thx.
One of the UK's National Treasures ,Madness 🎼🎶🎸🤣Gotta love the American reaction to this great group 🤣🎸🎼🎶
SKA is the shit! A total vibe of its own🏃🏻
If you ever see a party or wedding in Britain this is the dance all the men do when this is played especially if they've had a good drink no matter what age they are they all think their cool and we love them for it
The original skinheads in the UK were ska, rocksteady and reggae loving progressive people. What a world we could've had without division.
" I Love little things" !!!!! I's so Cute and Tiny !! Lol
I'm so glad to here that !!! HHHhhhhaaa : D
That's a famous Camden (London) Rock pub called the Dublin Castle, and Madness took their name from Prince Buster's (SKA) track Madness (they call it madness). Oh, and the little sax is a plastic toy
Madness is a deep, deep rabbit hole. Enjoy yourselves.
One glass of wine is all that it takes with 'One step beyond'.
It’s actually a Prince Buster cover. He was a legendary Jamaican ska singer.
We had square dancing as part of PE in middle school. :)
Great Reaction Guys.
Madness once played in front of 500,000 in Brazil !
One of my favs Madness songs cheers..
you could try. ''ghost town'', by ''the specials'' another great SKA band
Saw these at the Rainbow when I was 17….great fun
You have opened the rabbit hole that is the U.K. late 70’s, and 80’s SKA music the music of my school days ... so many great artists that are still touring today ... The Beat, Selector, Bad Manners, Body Snatchers, loads more ...
One step beyond was the first hit record by madness from 1979.
The band that caused earth quakes when their audience danced.
The legendary king of Ska - Prince Buster done One Step Beyond originally 😎
Laurel Aitken godfather of ska
@@thespirit9323 yep & the Queen of Ska is Doreen Shaffer 😎
The original is Prince Buster !
Do Baggy Trousers next, the sax player flies in it! 🎷
I really enjoy watching you two😊
the chorus is to the too the beat, too the beat ( dance), whatever you want and have fun.
The first time I saw this video I was in a bar in a little German Town called Alex's and I thought this was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life. I was pretty drunk at the time too but I still think it's awesome sober
Madness is Gwen and No Doubt's favorite. Ska Baby! When you are for some Funk, please try Betty Davis, "ANTI LOVE SONG." You will never regret it.
That saxophone solo is classic . You should ckeck out the live version.
Yupyupyup! This one always makes me wanna bounce!
So many songs to mention look them up an absolute British treasure
This is ska music, which came out of Jamaica in the 50s and 60s. Other bands in Britain playing ska were The Specials, The Beat, The selector and more.
Madness were all about fun and happiness . They played a gig on their 25 anniversary (I think) in London's Hyde Park. The dancing was so vigorous it registered 4.2 on the Richter Scale!!
I defy anybody to listen to this tune and keep their feet still!
I can't and I'm 65 and have loved madness since 1982.
Way back when this song was new - late '70s? Early eighties? (those years are a blur for me, LOL!), my friends & I were walking to town and we all got in a line and did the Madness walk. Hilarious! We were laughin' our arses off the whole way. Anyway, Madness are still around and STILL brilliant.
Madness were put together as a novelty band - joke. It turned out they were all fine musicians and went on to have hit after hit.
What utter rubbish. Do some research.
Similar style (ska) - Cherry Poppin' Daddies - "Zoot Suit Riot", and Mighty Mighty Bosstones - "The Impression I Get"
There are LOADS of great Madness songs - Our House, House of Fun, Embarrassment, Baggy Trousers, Night Boat to Cairo, Michael Caine, etc and plenty more. And that's not including their recent stuff which has some excellent stuff too.
P.S All the Nutty Boyz videos have fun, quirky intros.
If you like Ska/Two Tone you should also listen to bands like The Specials, The Beat and Bad Manners (Who's lead singer was called Buster Bloodvessel!).
loved these and still do after 40 years, ska and two tone is great music
