The new textures look 100% better, no doubt hehe
The old netherrack textures were messy and trash. The new one is so much better
new textures make it look like the blocks weren't a mosaic of textures, some old textures also looked extremely dull
Old cacti were better rest of the new textures are better, don’t like the new ores tho
New textures
Although the old textures are nostalgic I have to admit Mojang did a great job with the newer ones.
Agreed
@@TheMisterEpic but yet you don't use them for videos. please?
I'm not a fan of the newer textures, it just makes the game way too "fuzzy" vs the old very definite and discreet and deliberate looking textures.
Yeah. Like the new wheat
@@inqyr4707 well yeah. that could use a change.
I remember playing back in 2012 and seeing it evolve through time. It’s crazy how far graphics have come
It is
same breh. if im not wrong i started playing minecraft in 2011-12 (i was 4 now im 13 lul). any old version of minecraft is fucking nostalgic as fuck
@@tristantheoofer2 I started playing in 2011 as well
Not that much
@@dejazO0 lmao yea they have a lot. maybe not in the base game but through texture packs and shader packs, to RTX, graphics have changed tremendously
2009 Minecraft: Run on Windows XP, works well.
2021 Minecraft: *S I M U L A T E H E L L W I T H I N Y O U R C O M P U T E R*
Tbh the main reason i mostly play bedrock on pc is crossplay, and because i can maintain 60 fps easy. I can hardly hit 30 regularily on java, and it just runs so much better on bedrock.
1.8.9: Nice 80+ FPS on Hypixel
1.18.2: *2 0 F P S O N H Y P I X E L*
The old texture i remember the most is the old meaty netherack, which make nether seems like a biome of flesh with some visible bones(quartz ore)
It was actually called bloodstone before, so the original texture does match the original name
In all honesty, netherrack feels more flesh-like to me now. The old texture was almost a pixel-perfect recreation of a carpet at my old school, so I honestly just always thought of it as the 'carpet' texture. I'd stare at the floor and just think of the nether sometimes.
@@jem5636 even the new netherack sounds in 1.16 are mushy. Walking on them feels like walking on blocks of flesh and they do look like it. And I think the new textures are really pleasing to the eye
Yeah, but it looks TEREBLE
I can feel my pc overheating if I try those shaders.
My pc can run BSL at 7fps😎😎
@@Batcow153 Lol
And I can see my pc exploding using shaders
@Giovanni Pope u got a potato as well??
@Giovanni Pope I play on a laptop which was given to college students 8 years ago
This man I like because he talks about minecrafts history about mining, graphics, and if the game has gotten easier and so much more and he talks about the games history it's nostalgic.
:)
@@TheMisterEpic Minecraft's history is nostalgic and when ever I watch a video about minecrafts nostalgia whether the video is yours or someone else whenever I watch a minecraft history video it's like a small nostalgic trip.
I have such nostalgia for the classic textures. I love them because they are so bright and colorful and happy and it reflects on my good memories of playing classic multiplayer on those huge servers that existed back then.
Agreed :)
I just brings those good vibes back :)
I’m not sure but I think there a community texture packs with the old textures.
That's the main problem... New textures are better overall because there is always room for change and nothing can stay the same forever. I think it's extremely harmful to crave nostalgia, and yet I and everyone else does it. Kind of unsolvable situation.
Responding to the intro:
First photo: I'd guess Infdev or Alpha.
Second Photo: 1.14.X, With Optifine installed
I was guessing anywhere from Late Classic to early Beta for the first one. The second one could be anywhere from 1.4 onwards.
I would say the first one is early classic and the the second one is around 1.7
@@idrk7509 Early Classic seems like a bit of a stretch
@@theasandys the first one is a later version of pre-classic

@@TheMisterEpic xD it's ok we understand if you make a mistake or two
I feel proud that I was a part of Minecraft way WAY before it was mainstream or even remotely popular. At the time I began playing it didn’t even have a hunger bar for a long time, when they did add it things started changing from there like crazy. I just can’t even believe how much it’s blown up now. Although I still wish I had a custom cape like some of the lucky few to show my veteran status.
this is poggers

You know the game is scary when the graphics can be more beautiful then real life
Hahaha indeed
Very good video! Although I do think you should have mentioned two important points when it comes to the game's history of graphics:
Indev introduced dynamic lighting, meaning different blocks could have different light values depending on how far away they are from a light source (before this in Classic, it was only lit or very dark, with some minor changes to how dark unlit blocks can be)
Beta (I think 1.3 but don't quote me on it) introduced smooth lighting, making the transition from lit to less lit and finally unlit blocks much smoother, as the name implies.
There are some other minor things like classic version 0.0.14a being extremely unique due to its textures like leaves and gravel, as well as its blue fog, but it's not as important I'd say.
Very entertaining video nonetheless though, keep these up!
Just want to point out that the versions at 1:15 have been released. In the official launcher you can access them by enabling historical versions, then select a versions that starts with 'rd'
Cant wait to see what the future has in store for Minecraft...
It is exciting!
I’ve been getting into your videos a lot lately and I really enjoy your style of content man. I hope you start to really blow up this year!
:)
I’ve been waiting for this one, I always noticed they changed, but never how or what exactly. Thanks for making this.
Np :)
It’s wierd to think that in 10 or so years technology will have advanced so much that ray tracing is going to become normal and cards like the 3080 won’t be able to hold up with current standards anymore
i still remeber those og gtx titan cards, a mainstream card today shreds it completely
Textures have really improved over the years, and texture packs help that. Thanks for the awesome video!
Anyone else enjoy minecraft lite version? Those were the good old days.
Love these types of videos! Keep up the amazing work! :)

Minecraft's official Ray Tracing implementation came out of beta December 8th 2020, and is now officially implemented.
Hello madlad
yo
You could've mentioned too about the old Lava texture from Alpha/Beta that was very jarring to look at, especially in large lakes like in the Nether. It was like flashing between vibrant yellow and orange with the animation.
bruh you grow so fast :0 you had like 15k since i first watched you :0

One thing I like about modding nowadays is that shaders became a lot more accessible to Java players with the Fabric mod loader and the Iris Shaders mod. 2022 has been the first time in 10 years that I can play with 150 mods and Continuum shaders (gorgeous shaderpack btw) and still get like 50 fps. What a time to be alive.

World of colour update which almost changed all wool, glass and terracotta: Am I a joke to you?
Your vids are so fun hope you do more :D
Glad you enjoy!
LB photo realism + KUDA lite shader ran pretty well on my old Laptop and i was getting 18 - 24 fps with 8 chunks and i was so happy with that, this was around 2014-2015 my best years of minecraft
Nice video, but would have been cool if you brought up the super duper graphics pack.
Your english is so clean and easy to understand thanks
Started playing in 2010, cant believe so much time has passed
Even remember playing in browser version where servers where only in creative

Even though I started to play in 1.15 I feel nostalgic seeing old Minecraft
Your channel is really good i like u videos keep it up bro
:)
Hey TheMisterEpic, I’ve got a question for you, how did you record some of the side by side scenes? They seem to have the same player movement and camera positions but with different textures. Is it a mod that your using?
thanks for making my day better with this video! :)
I'm glad I could :)
LB Photo Realism was my fav pack!
1 difference I have spotted between 1.7 and newer versions is that on 1.7 the tall grass is darker than the grass blocks while in newer versions they are the same.
I played a bit of Minecraft Alpha (while the grass was still light green) recently; it's nice stuff.
The newer textures dont look bad, my main problem with them is that they look too good and polished. This would be fine for most people but I like the "indie style" that the original gives off, with imperfections.
The newer textures are actually really great. Especially the netherrack and glass. I play 1.12.2 a lot and actually made my own resource pack replacing the old textures for most blocks with the new 1.14 ones.
I also can't believe that things like Seus PTGI, Minecraft RTX, and other parallax occlusion mapping/physically based rendering exist and make Minecraft into such a beautiful and different game.
i do think you deserve more subs, you put out good content.
:)
@@TheMisterEpic ☺︎
PTGI E12 or so is so realistic, leaving my Minecraft house every morning and into the sun actually makes my eyes hurt a bit.
finally someone who actually put effort into this kind of video and not just putting old to new minecraft grapich video
Haha ty

Internal Shaders in 1.7.10 was the most memorable shader i ever used
Minecraft 2031: so as you can see, the faucet can now be fixed by a little bit of duck tape, and the dirt inside your house can be swept by our broom, but if one fiber of the broom breaks, you can always repair it using a magnifying glass.
I've always used The Dokucraft texture pack since the beta days and that's what I associate Minecraft with to this very day very medieval feeling
Why does this say it was published on Sunday, March 28th on my TV but Saturday March 27th on my PC xD
Anyways, cool vid man :D
:)
Didn’t even mention Smooth Lighting. Good job
I've been playing a lot with SEUS PTGI RTX Shaders recently and it really changed my experience. I can't play without it now XD
Ahahaha how is the performance
@@TheMisterEpic well I don't have any high end computer, but I went from 300fps no shaders to 30fps with it on
Slight correction, it's ray tracing, not RTX specifically. I personally don't like RTX that much. Trying it in any place that doesn't have a window or direct sunlight is very, very dark, and torches barely even give off a 2-block radius of light.
I haven't played with PTGI, but I have used many other Java shaders which I prefer. My favorites are ProjectLUMA and Complementary.
@@TheMisterEpic performance isnt bad, even with my 4gb 960
I would love to see a video on the evolution of minecraft on mobile! It went through a lot of changes through the years unique from the main ports of the game
These videos are really well made good job
:)
I like how a cubic pixelated game can turn into a fricking real life
I always loved sildurs shaders for that exact reason. Unlike many other shader this one goes for a more fantasy look with much more vibrant colors and it feels much better to me then the seus shader ever did. Also no other java shader has better looking shader then chocapic and sildurs
Personally, that is why I dislike it a little. It's nostalgic, sure, but the thing about Minecraft is that it's not just fantasy.
The fantasy in Minecraft is very grounded and bare-bones. I dislike how Sildurs makes everything so overly pink, and I much prefer Seus, Chocapic and Kuda for their much more realistic approach (newer versions of BSL are cool as well)
@@gamesuarx "Minecraft isn't supposed to be fantasy" you call that a realistic game kek. I accept you opinion ofc chocapic also looks good imo especially the shadows same as sildurs shadows (cause they are based on each other) There is a reason minecraft has lots of shaders and thats cause different tastes and opinions exist and yours is as much valid as mine.
i remember the old mobile textures from 7 years ago so nostalgic. the leather texture was so weird.
these minecraft documentaries are just **chef's kiss**
😁
You really deserve more subs bruv
I’m kind of disappointed you didn’t talk about the addition of ambient occlusion shadows (aka smooth lighting) in beta 1.7
When the SEUS version of raytracing is out of beta, I'd love to play with it since I can't afford the raytracing graphics card.(I don't even know if I can install it into my laptop anyways) But man it's so cool to see how far the graphics have come.
It is
Gahd damn the alpha land generation was beautiful, I wish they'd add a "classic terrain" to the world options. It'd fit nicely in the little bar that you can change to "amplified" and "super flat"
I finally downloaded minecraft java recently after last playing on PE and xbox 360 between 2012 or 2013 up to like 2016, I was very used to the old textures but now I'm starting to get used to the new textures
11:39 I'm still amazed how well the shadows and light levels look, its literally real life lighting in minecraft.
It truly blew me away
I have an idea if you ever wanna change your RUclips icon; a 1.14+ grass block, but part of it, revealing a 1.12 one inside, with an even older one inside, finally with the bright green one in the thumbnail, I think it would look pretty cool.
That is pretty cool
The beta textures are awesome, except for the baked potatoes.
The pre-1.14 textures are awesome, except for the glass.
I don:t know any of the other textures. Lol
Banger
the awaited video
I enjoy not having a seizure every time I go to the nether due to the old netherrack That stuff hurt my head so bad.
8:48 Though they were trialling development versions of the new textures as early as late 2017 for 1.12.
In my opinion, 1.13 and up really brought a change to minecraft. It was when everything started to get less simple, like all the beautiful complex new oceans, caves and nether, and the overhaul to villagers and village mechanics. I still get nostalgic for the older days but I real like the way it’s going as a game
How technology evolves.
I remember seeing similar light showcases in the Source engine.
This is gonna blow up
Minecraft Graphics is getting better and better 😎👍
Indeed
Sonic Ethers shaders don't use RTX, they use a different raytracing engine entirely which doesn't require dedicated hardware to run
Netherite, sand, and granite. Wait a minute hol up
When I play from time to time I always set up old audio because those are the sounds why i fell in love with game back in the day ! Graphics are mostly the same except gravel
I used to be one of those people who said "kill the new textures with fire!" but somehow, 3 years on, I'm now thinking whenever I turn on Programmer Art "Ugh, we used to play with this? For 8 years?"
Can't believe you never mentioned the change of gravel's texture
13:08 did anyone else just do a flash back to X's Adventures In Minecraft, or was it just me? Somehow I remember that world.... freaky.
It is also X's world at 3:13
Always love your content.
:)
Still crazy to think there was a time without smooth shading
I can’t wait to actually get a PC or surface tablet, so I can pull up the Minecraft Java launcher and test out some of these earlier versions.
I can’t wait for ray tracing for the current gen console’s I just hope they take their time to test everything so that you’ll have a great experience and not a decent or bad experience
I slightly prefer the old textures, but the new ones are very good.
Epic...
11:35 I think one Java shader has that
I use it regularly
BSL shader
In my opinion it's the best looking shader
It has many effects like all the other shader but some effects you find in the RTX bedrock minecraft like this lighting effect when you walk outside
You just need to play in the settings with it
The LB photo realism texture pack for Java looks very similar to the realistic textures texture pack for bed rock. I think somebody just translated the code from Java to C++, which is what I want to do with the Kamen Rider Craft mod. Or, at least try.
regardless of its blocky style, Minecraft with RTX is one of the most tangible things visually
I hated the new textures back when they first were made, but now i like them more than the old ones because of how used i've gotten to them.
theres something about the old minecraft graphics that are both nostalgic and creepy to me but i miss it a lot.
