i've had a lot of issues with chinas breaking, mostly ones with holes in them, but i've had a zildjian oriental 16" for a could years now and its holding up really nicely
Don’t get a holy china bro, any cymbal with holes in it is not as strong and will just start cracking, especially if you hit hard like me. With that being said I did have a 15” aaxtreme China and lasted me about a year ( most of what I play is metal breakdowns basically) before she started cracking and now I made it into a stack with my cracked 8” aax aero splash. I’ve had a new aaxtreme 19” China and its lasted 2 years so far and she’s still going strong so maybe go for a bigger size if you hit hard like me. I don’t hit my China hard anymore tho cause I’m scared to break that shit again😂 learn from my mistakes and don’t get too carried away on the breakdowns or your China will be doing the breaking lol
I have the 15", 17" and 19" AAXtreme chinas from Sabian. All are great. The AA holy's are intriguing, but I must not play enough metal to need them. The Xtremes have enough cut and volume for my needs. Thanks for the comparison.
Definitely the holy china. It's soooo cutting. The xtreme is abit more traditional china sound, but still powerful and loud. But the holy china is just the ultimate in aggressive china sound.
Great review! Thanks for taking the time to do this. Have a Zildjian 19 Z3 Ultra-Hammered China and it’s my favorite ever. If you ever wanna try a Zildjian, give this one a shot.
No sweat. I did consider switching back zildjians after the ultra hammered came out as it was really good to my ear. Unfortunately I have a bad habit of getting through Zildjians far too easily. 😅
Both still in one piece amazingly. That's a long time now. I think the holy china having holes in it somehow makes it more durable. I think it flexes better.
I've been drumming for about 16 years now, like you said, good through every brand and series of metal cymbals. I agree that those holy chinas are 100% basically the best chinas, and also about what you said about this rudes. Personally, I've made the switch to all aax x plosions with x celerator hats and for the last 1.5 YEARS, not a single cymbal from the aax line has broken. The rudes are good, but personally i love the warmth and richness of those aax's
100% agree. For me explosions are perfect for sound. But also durability. I broke AA quick for some reason, but not aaxplosion. Rudes are great and durable but not that musical
Cheers for the review! Great that you mentioned Thomas Hake... That's what intrigued me about Sabian. Bonus that you've a familiar local accent too! I'm a Black Isle metalhead drummer now living in Sweden. All the best! Neil Grant

That's correct, Tore. I actually saw a snippet of you on the news a few weeks back!! Nice work. I've been a busy metalhead since school. You might like my last band,Slioch, Scottish themed metal. Are you in a metal band just now? I've pretty much retired at this point.
@@heavydrumsinc4816 Slioch sound nice and heavy! Congratulations. I like how you incorporate Scottish folklore into it and you certainly have a lot of material! Personally, I ain’t to keen on the holy china but the over tones on that extreme is savage!! Probably the best China I think Iv ever heard! Thank you for this, I’m going buying on now!! Hahaha
I've got the 17" Holy China and a 19" Paragon china. Match made in heaven. The Paragon on my right and has a great wash for riding on, then the Holy on my left for more accent hits and texture 'cos its got a more trashy quality than the Paragon. I can also ride on that open handed if I want and both sound awesome.
Try out a 21" Zildjian A Ultra Hammered China if you're not exclusively considering only Sabian cymbals. Absolutely INSANE! I wish I bought one sooner. I always steered clear of any of the Z crashes and China's but this cymbal surprised me. The AA Holy China and Paragon will probably be my first Sabian Chinas. I just got a 22" HH Power Bell Ride which is amazing. I can't have only one Sabian can I?
I did try an a ultra hammered. Very nice, but the holy China was perfect for me. Plus I've always got through zildjian china's very fast. I had a z custom China about 15 years ago, it literally lasted hours 😪
@@heavydrumsinc4816 I believe the Z Chinas were so thick with little flex they tended to break under heavy playing. I was always told I was a heavy hitter but I never broke a China. I grew up playing an A 20" Low China Boy and a 19" K China Boy with a 14" Oriental Trash. Broke LOTS of 2B and heavier sticks though. I did break an A Custom Crash and an A Medium Crash at the bell. I still feel guilty to this day about ruining those cymbals.
I have the Meinl MB10 17" awesome and lasted me years. Still in mint condition.. but just not thrashy enough for what sound i like now.. a china should be big and thin. Or i should just rather get a stack. The holy china does seem a bit more thrashy and loud. Thanx
@@heavydrumsinc4816 the holy china is advertised as very loud but I dont find my 17 to be very loud. My 20" wuhan, however is the most aggressive sound on earth.
Idk if it's just the mic you're using, but the initial opening up of these cymbals sound like gunshots. If that's what it sounds like in person for you, maybe the reason they break so often for you is because you slam them.
For China's try Wuhan!!!! I like all my Cymbals the same brand name also! I'm a Paiste guy,but Wuhan does China's really, plus they are durable and cheap money!
I have tried Wuhan way back. I remember going through one in one night. It just fell to bits. Had two never had them again. Pity as it sounded excellent
Dude if you are breaking cymbals that fast you either have your cymbals clamped down too tight or you need to calm down. Ive had my oriental China for a decade maybe more.
Pro drummers get through cymbals quick too. Plus it depends how many hours your putting on them. I've got some cymbals I've had for 15 years , but there's a reason for that. Plus nowhere in the review did I mention all cymbals. Just certain models and types go relatively quickly.
