@@FanaticDrummer depends on how you hit them. I've got a Stagg 22 inch Lion, which is basically a rebranded Wuhan just like this one. It did crack (luckily after a while a small piece chipped away, effectively stopping the crack), but that's because I've had it since I was a beginner. I'm confident it's my fault for cracking it, as I also cracked other cymbals from hitting them improperly before I learned proper technique. Another factor that contributed to it cracking is the fact that it's a 22 inch, you have to absolutely bash it to make it open up. The smaller ones open up way easier so I bet they're far more durable.
Wuhan sounds the best here, but my all time favorite china is the Meinl Byzance Extra Dry China. The raw finish cuts out all the overtones, leaving only the pure tonal character of the china
Very much agree on Wuhan and Sabian...The Paiste sounds like it's stressed like ready to smash Zildjian and Meinl nice castings a good thin ride tone on em.

@@feeverdream Hah, i got one shortly after i asked and i can say that they sound louder than the rest of the cymbals while they really aren't they have a vastly different frequency range and so they sound louder because they sound so different. My Meinl Byzance Jazz Crash hurts my ear sometimes, and i use ear protection...

It's absolutely fucking loud and I've got to bash real good to get it to open up properly. The loudness isn't a problem, but it opens up way too hard for my taste. These smaller ones seem to open up very quickly.

I ordered three of those from Thomann because the quality control is even sloppier than at Zildjian and so every cymbal sounds so different. The other two also didn't open up early enough and i didn't like the sound of them, but the thrid one was for me. The other ones i sent back. I'd also advise you to order 3 or 4 of the same cymbal and pick the best one out.

If you’re a Zildjian guy, technically you’re a Sabian guy also. Zildjian fired Paul Francis in January. I’m switching to Sabian and I might even give Paiste a try. My first good pair of Hihats when I was a kid were a pair of Paiste 502 that I stupidly traded for a pair of speakers, because like you I was a Zildjian guy.
Sabian AA Holy, Wuhan are ideal for rock and metal in general, powerful and thrashy sound but the others are as good just for different things, maybe for softer styles of music like pop, jazz etc. Great video!
my first every china cymbal was a wuhan and it lasted for about a year, year and a half maybe. it sounded great until it began to crack. i still have it to this day, all mangled, it still sounds better than all the chinas i own, which are 2 different sabian chinas.

I have a soft spot for the Paiste PST 5. I had an 18" and 16" for over 12 years before I finally upgraded to an 18" 2oo2 and 20" 3OOO, both Novo Chinas. This PST 5 got the job done at gigs, was always well heard in the mix and was trashy enough for a good price. Everyone rags on them but people shut them down too often.
Thanks for this. I would have said the Wuhan at first was the best with the mic recordings, but the Iphone recording reveals a lot of the character of the other cymbals as you would hear them in the room, with the Sabian and Meinl being tied favourite for me.
I definitely agree, a raw mic in a room can reveal a lot of characteristics that are easily overlooked with a more formal microphone setup. I’m a Zildjian guy, but I have a 20 inch and 14 inch Wuhan China, amazing sound for the money. Wuhan sounds the best here for my ears. Just FYI, Neil Peart’s setup before moving to DW and Sabian, included a Wuhan China positioned at his right rear side above the 20 inch gong drum.😉

really good playing,all these china cymbals have their own personality but for me wuhan is the best one. i think this is how a china should be..loud,trashy without crash characters. and therefore i love my wuhan chinas..someday i will switch to dream cymbals and use the chinas and pangs cause the pangs in 22 inch diameter are out of this world
The reason why all the brands name their china cymbals China is because the Chinese wuhan cymbals all have that thin hand hammered b20 bronze sound. I have The Zildjian oriental china, but once I hit a 18 inch Wuhan tradititional china in a music store and heard that nice trashy sound, I had to have it. It is by far the nicest sounding china on the market. But that’s my opinion and I suppose everyone has their own taste. But for heavy metal thrash music it’s the best.
I would go with the Ziljian trash china. The Paite one sounds crapy, but it is a cheap line compared to the Sabian and Zildjian one. I like Meinl too. The Holy China sounds awesome but too dry for me. I own a 16" wuhan,so I know Wuhan.
For me the Wuhan and the Sabina Are the best. But thats what i Like. For someone Else the meinl, or the Peisti is the absolute best. Very good Video 👍👍👍
Nope, no rivets on this one. Wuhan chinas are always just called “Wuhan Traditional China” with their size, so you should be able to find plenty of them by just googling that. Keep in mind it’ll take a bit of break-in time, it might feel pretty stiff at first but it’ll get better in no time. Hope you enjoy!

nmerek they’re all the same Chinese B20 bronze color when you get them, all made from that alloy at the Wuhan factory. I think some pictures make some of them look more brilliant or more yellow based on the saturation or lighting, but I’d just ignore that and expect to get what you see in the video here. And if you’re looking for advice on breaking it in I’d say to flip it upside down (as most people play it anyway) and just use two sticks around the edges to keep it opening up and washing for a while so that the energy travels through the cymbal and it gives into the sticks more easily. They don’t take much force to open up at their full volume, so don’t smash into it too hard or you’ll break it much quicker. I had a Wuhan that lasted around a year and a half for me so it can definitely be done if you play dynamically. And not a problem at all, I’m happy to help! Enjoy it, it’s pretty much assured to be a monstrous China!
I have a Wuhan 16" china and hate It. I love my Stagg Sh, Dh and Paiste 502 18" chinas. Anyway the holy china here sound good...but maybe the Centent Spark even better...than I have a Whd Pro and Is good for heavier music...now I would like to have a Sonor Armoni china...
I agree with the general consensus in the comments here that the Wuhans and Sabians (especially holy chinas) are the ones to beat. Everything else just sounds clangy, but they might make decent stacks. I am curious if anyone has experience with Dream chinas or pangs. Also, I recently scored a 24" Soultone FXO (more like ozone) china for cheap, and it is a beast. The holes help so much with unwanted clang and sustain. I've even drilled out a zbt 18" china to make it tolerable LOL
I know Matt Greiner from ABR doesn't use Sabian but my God...this Sabian sounds EXACTLY like the china he uses in Messengers. Also the Paiste was crap in my opinion. All the other chinas seemed solid.
It definitely does have that same really dark and washy tone on that album, good ear man! And Paiste makes some really great cymbals overall (the high-end lines at least), but I agree that they're lacking with the chinas.. I think it's because they use B8 Bronze so often and pridefully, because B8 doesn't have enough flexibility or wash to produce that real china tone. Thanks for watching, man!

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Zildjian Oriental but the Wuhan won this contest for sure.. I actually play with both of these China’s on my kit, And the Wuhan makes for some NASTY Breakdowns..- Yeah Buddy
No problem! And it is a 16", it just looks a little bit smaller because it's further away than the Zildjian and the Paiste - I had to let them overlap with a bit of height room in between to fit within the mic's radius. Thanks for watching!

No problem! And it is a 16", it just looks a little bit smaller because it's further away than the Zildjian and the Paiste - I had to let them overlap with a bit of height room in between to fit within the mic's radius. Thanks for watching!
