@@vincent-ow8ss I'm not very good at definitions so here is Wikipedia's definition: "Dynamic range compression (DRC) or simply compression is an audio signal processing operation that reduces the volume of loud sounds or amplifies quiet sounds thus reducing or compressing an audio signal's dynamic range. Compression is commonly used in sound recording and reproduction, broadcasting,[1] live sound reinforcement and in some instrument amplifiers." Basically, you make it so quiet things become louder and loud things quieter. This is done in a lot of recordings yet on demos such as this you would usually want the cleanest, unprocessed sound you can get. Watch Carter Mclean's demos if you want an example (he is also just insanely musical which also helps). This is so we can gauge what the cymbals sound like in a live situation, before its masked under effects. As you can guess the compression here really kills the personality of each line, be that an upside with the cheaper lines or a big downside on the more expensive ones.

I think it needs more compression... just a touch.. haha. Just kidding. Paiste do have that bright sort of clangy sound.. but can sound unreal in the mix if properly .. mixed.
All other brands of cymbals are Mic'd up and EQ'd to sound like a Paiste cymbal, I would have liked to hear them without all the recording magic and just the natural sound of each cymbal
The samples on the Paiste website are much more realistic. Here we just hear differences of pitch, but can't hear all the subtle things that make a difference between a pst or a signature... in my opinion
@@marshallhammond9933 Your opinion is correct. Paiste sound files are the best on the web. Meinl files are good too. Not "Paiste good", but good. If Sabian sales were made strictly from their website, they'd be out of business tomorrow.
My dad had been endorsed by paiste when I was born and started drumming. I used his 2000 power crashes and rides and they were so distinct I still remember the sound to this day. Synesthesia also helped me vividly remember that one sounded blue and one sounded orange if that makes sense 😅
Some of those sure are amazing. One thing that's always stopping me from getting a set of Paiste cymbals, is the fact that almost all their crashes are very high pitched. I don't think that I own anything smaller than 18". Even most of the low crashes in this video are higher than my high crashes. Not saying that they don't sound good - they do.
Paiste is made using "Swiss" technique, cut from rolled metal sheet of uniform thickness. Whereas "Turkish" cymbals have per-cymbal unique hand-made tonal characteristics, Paiste are drop-in identical sounding cymbals given same size and series.
The PST's are hands down the best entry level cymbals on the market. Rudes sound great, but no quite the 2002's, and those are B8 alloy which is amazing! Ya can't go wrong, with Paiste, no matter what style you play
I've never owned any Paiste cymbals in my 36 years of drumming but THIS is how EVERY cymbal demo should have been created from the begining. This demo gives you a VERY good way of trying to find "THAT SOUND" we all have in our heads that we search for in a cymbal. I have have never been "loyal" to any of the brands...if it sounds like what I'm looking for then I don't care what brand it is. Currently I have 3 brands of cymbals in my 12 piece Mapex Saturn kit. I have been interested in an Alpha for a while. Good to hear it in a comparison like what's in this video. Zildjian and Sabian currently don't make the 14" crash sound im looking for. ALPHA 14" Thin may be my 1st Paiste. Thanks for such a great video. And yeah!, don't like the bass drum sound at all!
The paiste sounds really cool and awesome. Not only that. They're more very friendly to use a paiste cymbals. I haven't really owned one, but I do love it. Better than zildjian. The Zildjians here in philippines are expensive, usually a K zildjian, though. The first time I heard a Paiste cymbals sound was Tico torres of bon jovi and Tommy lee of Motley crue. They're more notable to use paiste when I was watching their concert on youtube. Paiste cymbals are the no. 1 and best crafted sound in switzerland. 😊👍🙌
I loved the tones on the 2002's and the reflectors as well. I also liked the darker sound on the twenties. I'd like to check out the new China blast from the rude line as well
+Harrison Myers the Signature Classic series will cover those styles of music. You can mix and match within a series, of course, to dial in a sound for a specific application. So ignoring the price tag I bought it and because of its sound cherished it and took good care ever since - only to learn about it beeing rather of the high end later. Big grin.

Another arctic white/black hardware Saturn!😍 I live in Toronto and my old band was playing a show in Ottawa in 2014. We stopped at Long & Mcquade for a rental kit. We were super crunched for time and needed to be in and right the fuck out but I'd forgotten my sticks at home. I would've never left the rental department otherwise so when I went over to the drum department for a couple of pairs, I turned the corner and there she was: 12x8/16x14/20x20. The kick was a custom order by the original owner. My bandmates were quite pissed at me but I filled in the paperwork and arranged to have it on the next truck to Toronto. It's not too often that I see white Saturns but they always make my day if I happen across one on RUclips or something. Sure, if I continue doing musical stuff, I might buy other kits down the line, but this one is going to stay with me forever. That 20x20 will cut through absolutely anything/burn small venues to the ground.
Glad that PAISTE decided to reprise this video! The old PAISTE video (w/ Mike Johnston) was such a great concept...it was really a shame they had to remove it once he switched to Meinl cymbals. I'm surprised this concept hasn't been used by other cymbal companies. Oh, well...too bad for other cymbal companies, I guess. Kudos to PAISTE!!!

The finest cymbals ever, different look and personality. i've played a lot of cymbals, and always have paiste like my favorites, the best cymbals for a studio recording... 2002 and Giant Beat all the way!!
Paiste user since 1987 (and still using the same 3000 heavy ride since 1987), and even though this was a great comparison video, honestly the difference between each group wasn't night and day as I was hoping to hear (hearing most of the differences in the ride, but minimally). They all sounded great. Even the PST at the beginning, being the most affordable of the bunch. The only thing missing in this comparison was 2- 4 bars of open hihat. I know he did a choke pattern each round but that's not enough to know how they will sound open. And as a rock/metal drummer, mine are open more often than they are closed. Would really love to hear a Colorsound comparison between all the series. I know the 900s are the only ones you can buy new now, but it's still possible to find some decent used 2000, 1000, 400 and even 5. I'm in a new project and have decided to invest in some RED Colorsounds for a visual on stage, but I'm not loving the 900s like I love the 2000s and even 400s. C'mon Paiste, give us a comparison video of the Colorsounds!
I can not believe a reputable company like Paiste will release a comparison video such as this with so much sound prosessing. An entry level PST sound almost the same as their top of the line cymbals. Make me your consultant immediately!
Paiste,I'm assuming the same sized cymbals were used throughout the video. Is it possible for you to list the sizes used for the hats, ride, and crashes, please? It would be very helpful to me.
I consider myself an unofficial spokes person and endorser of Paiute cymbals,I have played them since 1982,the 2002 line the rude line and now the addition of the 900 series,I play in a Van Halen tribute band that I formed in 1982,we have played all over,I hung out at my local music store a lot and the owner told me that I sold more paiste cymbals for him than his drum salesman just buy selling people on them and people seeing me use them at shows,in case anybody wonders about paiste cymbals you can’t go wrong they are the best they cut through everything and they sound amazing!!!!!
Excelent video. For those mentioning that there is too much compression so that all cymbals sound the same... Well stop listening on your phone, get proper quality headphones or studio monitors, and last but not least... check your otolaryngologist! 😁✌
Best comparison vid ever. Thanks man. 2002, RUDE, SIGS. The end. (Hey not played were the Colorsounds... great sounding cymbals and great for recording if you are a hard hitter.)The end.
The whole line sounds pretty sweet, even the PST3s aren't bad! It's difficult to choose a favorite, but I think with my budget it's probably the Alphas, RUDEs or PST7s.
The twenty series ride sounds the best of all the rides. Also love the 602s and traditional signatures. Paiste player for 21 years here, I'll never buy or play anything else.
Hi! I'm saving money up to get a new ride cymbal. I was thinking of getting a 20" Paiste Signature Fast Ride or a 20" 2002 ride. What would you recommend?
the young drummer is really good very consistent and articulated drumming good work, personally i don't go for a brand of cymbals but for the sound my 20 ride is istanbul zildjian hi hats p2002 crash and sabian splash and a mainl ride
I totally have to agree with the whole thing that you said about fast drumming or flashy kits. It does seem like most drummers these days rely on that kind of stuff. But I do disagree with you when you said that Ringo deserves more credit. Don't get me wrong, I love the Beatles, but Ringo really wasn't a good drummer. I heard that he had to use 2 tracks while recording. One for drums and one for cymbals. He did this because of his timing issues.
You can really tell that all the lines are from the same company. All of the Paiste products in this video sound amazing. There is one problem, I think it's the compression and mic's. The RUDE line sound like RUDE but I have never liked RUDE until this video. They all sound the same except for how bright and crisp they are from one another. My GIANT BEAT's sound dark and ominous yet on this video all of the bottom end seem to be washed out by how brilliant each sounds. the only really true or closest ones are the 2002's in comparison to real life. The video is really well done, I guess I'm just really asking is it's the compression, EQ setting's or the mic's that are used in combination. Thank you in advance!
cont. well most people anyways. How would you know I dont play the drums? I have actually been playing for 7 years now. I never said Josh was the best drummer in the world, but he can definitely hold his own! Also, please refrain yourself from starting a sentence with and, have you never been to kindergarten?
I didn't fail either you just have more people at this time, at this video who share the same feelings about One Direction as you do. Also, if I am not mistaken, I commented first to deplete the disputes and comments about Josh and One Direction but you commented thinking that you would be the shit and prove a girl wrong and start shit. Tell me who would win in a fight. Someone surrounded by people just like them or someone alone in their beliefs? Its obvious whose favour the odds would be in.
Think about it. With the amount of money invested in pop groups like One Direction, record execs aren't going to risk it all by wasting excessive amounts of capital on unskilled musicians. Say whatever you will about the music. I don't particularly enjoy it myself, but they have to be able to function as musicians without embarrassing themselves or appearing to be arrogant, untalented, and privileged.
What I find more amazing than the sound of these cymbals is how freaking quickly they change the cymbal while the guy is playing! it's astounding the speed. hats off to the crew.

Paiste Reflector and Traditionals for sure!
The Hi-Hats are all sounding the same to me. What kind of demo is this. :-(
Great video if you're a rock drummer. Some dynamics would have been nice, though. This guy's a pretty hard hitter.
Cool concept.
Paiste,I'm assuming the same sized cymbals were used throughout the video. Is it possible for you to list the sizes used for the hats, ride, and crashes, please? It would be very helpful to me.
I'd loooove a set of RUDE. But they're so expensive 😂
Excellent video! Killer snare sound:)
I've always been a Zildjian guy, but after seeing and hearing the Paiste Reflector, I really want to break the rules and buy the Paiste Reflectors.
So, when's the new video coming out?
Why don’t you show me how the ride sounds without hitting the Bell constantly
Que hermosos platillos!
What? No Paiste 101??
What a shaaaaameee
That snare is killer man!!
Best comparison vid ever. Thanks man. 2002, RUDE, SIGS. The end. (Hey not played were the Colorsounds... great sounding cymbals and great for recording if you are a hard hitter.)The end.
Very clever way of demoing the cymbals & VERY HELPFUL! Thanks, Paiste!
2:12 - 2: 213. what am I hearing? a 602 or Paiste signature? confusing
Nice comparison. Are the cymbals at the 2:20 mark Paiste "Signature" series?
The whole line sounds pretty sweet, even the PST3s aren't bad! It's difficult to choose a favorite, but I think with my budget it's probably the Alphas, RUDEs or PST7s.
I would like details on the snare drum sound, what heads and make of drum. It sounds good. thanks
as usual, the GB's and 2002's are still the best sounding. gotta love Paiste, even the cymbals line I don't are still better than everybody else.
Josh Devine, Very Well Played In Context !!.... would hate to see someone overplaying on this one... ! Goodluck Man...!
I think the compression should be a bit higher... plz more.. (/s) Seriously though thank you for the video!
What's the exact model used by the band Heart in the song Alone in their music video in the 80's and Stings Every breath you take? Thanks peace out!
Nice comparson, 2002 series is my lovely sound. Really Nice soud. Jeah!!
The twenty series ride sounds the best of all the rides. Also love the 602s and traditional signatures. Paiste player for 21 years here, I'll never buy or play anything else.
Really good comparison video! Nice job
RIP Alpha and Twenty Custom series, ironically probably my two fave series that Paiste has ever done!
Great and very creative demo!! Tight beat too!! Good job!
kinda disappointing when the drum kit sounds better than the cymbals and your advertising cymbals, just saying
The crashes sound like my little brother screaming in to a auto-tuned mike.
They all sound the same
Well someone obviously doesn’t have a musical ear
@@ashtonfitzgerald1445 not just him. All hihats sound the same and there's tons of compression in the mix
Love these cymbals....Dreaming of a 2002's set...
By the way, who knows what snare is in the video?
Well, I’ll give it a thumbs up. I used to hate Paiste but they have improved greatly.
cont. well most people anyways.
Paiste Alpha, 2002 & RUDEs are always my favorites... Always.
In order top 5
1.signature
2.dark energy
3.alpha
4.giant beat
5.twenty
The kid has a groove that most drummers cannot master. Forget the cymbals. I'll take the kid on tour.
that was awesome!! nice work josh :)
They are honestly all really good, aside from the PST3. I'm very surprised with the PST5 tho.
where can we buy the cymbals
Vintag rock song
What is best Paiste or Zildijan?
But what brand is the hi-hat model what is it?
tell me the brand and model of snare drum in this video??
Think about it. With the amount of money invested in pop groups like One Direction, record execs aren't going to risk it all by wasting excessive amounts of capital on unskilled musicians. Say whatever you will about the music. I don't particularly enjoy it myself, but they have to be able to function as musicians without embarrassing themselves or appearing to be arrogant, untalented, and privileged.
Great video and drumming :)
