YES!! I've been waiting for this! I think Thomas's new ride will be my first ever Meinl cymbal! Thank-you for this Thomas, and everyone at Meinl! Happy New Year!!
I hope Meinl releases a stand-alone performance video from the footage of Thomas Lang playing. I appreciate the need for explaining the cymbals, but there was some AWESOME sounding stuff Thomas was playing and during that I wanted so badly just to watch him play. PLEASE MEINL!
Those are awesome hats! Years ago I bought on a local CL a 70's new beats and the top hat has the same vent holes as this one😊 now I know why it sounds so cool and different than a regular new beats hats😂
I thought the same at first too, but that bell sounds far too dry to be what Craig was looking for. Also, it seems they’ve put a lot of work into the bow sound, and I know Craig isn’t really bothered about playing the bow of the ride 😅
I have been fully going down the rabbit hole trying to find old videos where Craig was going through the prototypes. I don't remember any of them having coloured bells (which is probably what's giving it its dryness @mattjoiner4145 ) but its a 21 inch crashable, brilliant finish ride with a very pronounced bell...And that was the brief as far as I remember.
Unfortunately Z Company was kinda stingy and wouldn't ship 21 projection ride outside of the USA. Unfortunately this Thomas Lang model I think is much more interesting and cooler. Craig's ride looked like a polished brilliant bell with the look of K sweet 20 raw bell finish as in 21inch plus they only ship in mainland US only that's a bummer to me. My money goes to Thomas Lang 🤌🤌
@@eggysauce I saw that, looks like an Audix D6. And it's facing away from the beater too which seems weird. I really would love a breakdown of the recording process, Meinl drum videos always sound amazing
If I was suddenly a really popular drummer - and all the big companies came to me for an endorsement - i wouldn't be able to choose between Tama, Pearl. Sonor, Gretsch / Zildjian, Paiste, Sabian or Meinl. Everyone is just making great stuff these days.
@@CloseUpLoverI totally agree with you that the new Benny Greb ride looks weird as hell… but it sounds freaking unreal. I think it just depends on what you’re looking for in a cymbal. To be honest, if money was no object, I’d buy both and have them as two great options for different gigs/sessions 😅
I have to say I'm very impressed with that ride. I like the big bell with the deep undertones, the bow has nice stick definition as Thomas said, and the crash doesn't sound nearly as chunky as I would expect from a 3.1 kg cymbal. The cymbal is too heavy for my taste (I play a 21" Sabian Groove Ride which is ~2350g), but they really did manage to get a lot of features into that cymbal.
@superior drummer 3 please record these cymbals in an amazing studio with the best mics, using a great engineer so we can have these cymbal on E Drums please.
Drums and cymbals are like food; it's extremely personal which sounds and tastes one likes. Unfortunately, for me, every single Meinl cymbal comes across as a glorified trash can lid. The crash sounds super generic. It sounds like something I'd hear from a digital set of drums. The high hats lack versatility. The ride cymbal pitch is too high and the bell is too pronounced. That's the problem with individual taste. Now, if Meinl was a sponsor then I'd eventually find something I like but that's because I'm not paying for them. Also, there's a half dozen decent cymbal manufacturers and the only people that have all the same cymbal brand are those with sponsors. There's thousands of different sounds out there and you aren't forced to use only one type. All your cymbals don't need to match or even be the same type of metal finish. Also, I never buy a cymbal I can't personally play with unless I'm directly replacing a (rarely) broken cymbal with the exact same product. I'm sure I drive people at stores nuts because I'll play 50 different cymbals at the store and walk out and not buy one because I don't like the sound or the feel. That's even after I've finger tapped a couple hundred and narrowed it down and now I need a stick to get a better sound. I've returned cymbals the next day because they sound different at home on my kit than in the store. Sometimes a great cymbal doesn't sonically blend with my other cymbals. It's like duotones on a piano. Played incorrectly or the wrong chord sounds awful.
@ in all fairness, people buy musical instruments thinking they will play or sound like the artist they are inspired by. Strat/hendrix, Frankenstein/Van Halen, rosewood snare drum/alex Van Halen, yamaha cs80/vangelis. Understand?
@ it’s called marketing. People get degrees in it. Even masters degrees in marketing. There are marketing firms. Why are you having trouble understanding this concept? Of course I can’t play like Thomas Lang. I’m not Thomas Lang.
@@mattdelany6799 Thinking people will buy musical instruments because some musician says to is a fundamental part of marketing, yes. This, I know, but you're original comment is what I was referring to. Most people pick the instruments they want after trying them, despite what anyone else might say.
The crash and hats sound beautiful, but I am not a fan of that ride. Pitch is too low and weight too heavy for me. For somebody it may fit perfectly, just not my cup of tea
There's loads of playing throughout the whole video, and being an artist's inspired pack, it's the perfect balance of context AND playing from the artist himself
Um, yeah, I don't think any of these things really truly matter amongst cymbal brands. I don't understand why people like him try to define what's better in a particular sound like wine tasting. What already exists out here among brands, you will get all those expected sounds. 😩🤷🏽♂️
@robbledot7290 Lol. I bet you can't even tell the "amazing difference between all the sounds." Think about it. You get the damp sounds that already is of the collection. “I have a very beefy stick with a large tip.”
Hahahaha yeah he does :D
Gaaaayyy!
I have a very long and thin stick with a bit of a fat tip. I wish a had a beefy stick.. but you have to play with what you've got
Thomas does such a fantastic job describing, explaining and demonstrating these cymbals.
That Polyphonic plays exactly how it was described 👌🏽🔥
There is something unique about this guy - I truly find him and his videos inspirational. Wish I could play as good!
Thomas Lang could tell me a trash can lid is the best and I'd believe it because he's top of the top for drummers IMO LOL
i mean, he also would make it sound incredible
Fully agree
Still it only represents his choice which might not be yours
That's what they're counting on, bud.
Facts.
After playing for any years, I still can't fathom playing the bass pedals as good as playing with his hands. Thomas is insanely talented.
Play slowly more
For practice foot

The editing on these new TL Meinl videos is awful. All talk!
The bell of that ride is monstrous! Bit too thick and heavy for me but I’m sure rock/metal players will be all over it
Was thinking it isn't far off from a Z Custom Mega Bell.
I’m not a drummer, and even I know this guy is likely one of the greatest drummers on the planet. Really intelligent too.

First cymbals i bought was Mcs whole Set . It was almost 30 years ago but even then cheap Set from Meinl was really like Pro Set.
The ride cymbals ping sound is like a tone, like it can sing

What would be a good 2nd crash to pair with this set?
I would just crash that super heavy ride cymbal
