Wow, there are actually quite a few things that I didn't know about! I've been playing this game every once in a while ever since I was a child. It's actually part of what inspired me to become a pilot!
its weird how this game was a big part of my childhood imagination too. I have vivid dreams of being a film director and putting this universe into a crazy film and embodying all the cool antiquated things the crimson skies era/universe has. It'd be sick.
@@extremea7974 it’s clear that this game inspired at least a few anime series. There’s clear inspiration in the magnificent kabuki and Allison and Lilia. Frankly, I would love to see this game become its own RP universe again..
You can see big John’s character model in the Pandora docking day and I looked at the two pretty carefully and there’s actually a few differences between them. I certainly would hazard a guess that maybe that was supposed to be an early character model for big John but there’s too many differences to say for certain
Fun fact: if you switch back into Nathan's Devastator after switching out of it on a runway, Nathan will pat the fuselage as he takes off like he's petting a horse. As far as I've seen, he only does this with his Devastator.
@@omni-hexagon3514 not sure if I’d call that useless. It does characterize Nathan Zachary and his love for his longest lasting aircraft. It’s a shame that he is forced to destroy it in the fight with el morte.
I was playing Crimson Skies online with some guys recently and found at specific points in the game on Badlands and Chicago maps you can fly inside one specific mountain or one building by flying into it at a specific point, but there are no textures inside of course, so it's transparent outside. With the mini gyro, you can sit inside said building/mountain and shoot out but the other players can't shoot at you. I'll eventually try record it and upload.
@@Unknown.Skymaster Hi, I've just uploaded some short clips to my channel of it. Those are two where you glitch out graphically, but there's some more glitches where you just go into a void that never ends
I just started playing this game again, and I'm somewhere around 10 playthroughs deep over the last few weeks, give or take. I'd forgotten how much fun it is. I wish I could fly the DLC planes in single-player though.
Regardless of the information presented being "useless", I found this video fascinating. Being a lifelong aerophile (thanks to my Grandfather's influence with his Naval Piloting & Flight Instruction careers), this franchise has always had a very special place in my heart next to Disney's Talespin cartoon, Airfix Dogfighter, IL-2 Sturmovik and Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator. The plane designs are the biggest draw for me, with many of them based on real X-plane designs from the 30s & 40s respectively (i.e. The Hughes P21-J Devastator shares design ques from the Curtiss Wright XP-55 Ascender, being a swept, reverse winged pusher design with the addition of Contra-Rotating Propellers). It's really great to see this series get more attention even in 2024!
It’s possible to find the game on my abandonware. Plus, I’m part of a discord server dedicated to helping people figure out how to get it working here is a link. discord.gg/YXAeYCTm. Go to the channel specifically called tech-support.
Also, shameless plug here. Here I am the resident artist on that server. I’m constantly making 2-D table top assets for a digitized version of the crimson skies board game. Mainly used for RP. They’re plenty of others their own games as well. Highly encourage you check them out.
0:09 not quite! Xbox Live is back again with Insignia, the Xbox Live replacement servers, working just as it would back in the day. Some legends have managed to reverse-engineer the original XBL entirely. You should definitely look at getting it.
@@Unknown.Skymaster All good. At the time you uploaded the project Insignia was only out for a month. It's been so great. @@Unknown.Skymaster I've actually just uploaded a recent game of Crimson Skies that I played online. I thought you had to choose between that and the Brigand in Chicago (I always kept piloting the Brigand). After inputting every cheat code, including the full plane collection, it disappointed me the Constable is not unlockable at all. I think police vehicles are badass.
The ISA Motors Ltd Constable is the only flyable aircraft that can't be added to the hanger. The others are aircraft exclusively flown by the Ai, The Rajin Cajuns Curtis-Wright J2 Fury The Focke-Wulf FW-193 Hellhound, mainstay of both the Red Skulls and Los Muertos The Nation of Hollywood's Hughes Firebrand and the Sanderson FB14 Vampire, the only non-flyable aircraft in the Die Spinne roster

I think they’d do better to start from scratch: flying air combat gameplay, optional arcade or ‘realistic’ physics, custom outfitting of personal and squadron aircraft, custom outfitting of your zeppelin base, a world map that allows various encounters a la Sid Meier’s Pirates!, with varied geopolitical effects and factions… …and more I could probably go on too long
Considering all the levels of customizability that existed in the previous game, absolutely. The consistency is nice every once in a while. But they didn’t actually want to remove those features. The main reason they had to remove them was for the limitations of the console. Especially since they wanted to give it Xbox live support. Let’s be real though. It had the same graphics but the same mechanics as the old game it would’ve been 1000 times better. Then again I’m biased since my uncle worked on the cut scenes
I noticed you didn't mention the fourth difficulty. Does that mean that it's not useless and can actually be obtained? I'm confused on how to unlock it.
