The original Crimson Skies (2000) for PC is the only game I've played that exceeds all standards. It has EVERYTHING. You feel the airplane in the air (perfect sim), it has an amazing and convincing storyline through many nations and plane building (RPG feeling), it has perfectly balanced dogfights (best of the shooter games), it has hundreds of stunts to perform (great feeling of dexterity games), its missions feel like you are on rails and you accomplish a big variety of different achievements, not just shooting (adventure feeling), the game even has a race!!! (Racing). I pity those who haven't played the PC game and dug into the story and atmosphear yet...

I would've pre ordered the new xbox, even though the XBOX ONE took four tries to get a console that actually worked at the beginning of last generation, if there was a new Crimson Skies. But there's not, so I probably won't. I'll more likely buy a used xbox one S when the new unites come out just so I can play the digital re release. It boggles my mind why no one has basically stolen the IP out from under them with a spiritual successor with some co op Sky Jacking options. An open world game with a focus on such and PVE to work together to jack roaming mobs of merchants and take on other missions could be grand. But alas, everyone is all about the Cod of Dookie, Battle Royales on foot, and so much tired, done to death, and not even done reliably well, trash that's more out to scam buyers rather than deliver a worth while game at an honest price. And now they're talking about hiking those costs even higher. They wanna play that game, I won't be playing, or not until their game hits the 10 dollar bargain bin. I'll go play Streets of Rage and other fair priced fun excursions instead. Where's our DarkStalkers, Rival Schools, Crimson Skies, MOTORSTORM, Bloody Roar, and the actual games with major imaginative twists? Instead it's a bunch of high license, like sports licenses, as bad as ye ol movie license, games that have the audacity to declare themselves realistic, and yet fail at that, and forget they were meant to be fun games. I think PSO2 has shown in part that even older out of date games have so much more life and imagination than what the west has been pumping out, not to mention showing less actual game play in supposed game play trailers. Aside from some interesting bits from the east, it's pretty sad to see where the industry has gone.Actual fun attention to details have been confused for visual fidelity over all and much of the time we're paying companies to test their game for them, when supposed betas are used as demos instead as players treat it as such because they have no paid obligation, nor reward, for reporting breaking bugs, and then by the time things get fixed, or told they will be, they've already grabbed the money and run. You know, like ANTHEM they then said they would fix and it's not been making much noise what so ever. As fast as many games hit those bargin bin prices now, I think I'll wait for those. I shouldn't have but reserved the new Gundam Vs game because at least I know how many suits are going to be in that, a LOT, and it's had it's paces run well in the arcades, something many games don't pay their dues in anymore either. Until I see something new really tickle my fancy, or the IP's we've chanted we wanted back for now multiple generations, I think many of these companies can take a flying leap. If you're not going to use the IP several are asking for, stop holding onto it and sell it to someone who will at a fair price.
I got to meet Weisman at last year's GenCon, and being a big fan of Battletech, Shadowrun, and RI's Crimson Skies walkthrough, it was an absolute joy to meet him. I knew it was futile, but I asked him about Crimson Skies anyway, and he said that Microsoft still has the rights to making video games in the franchise. I knew he'd say that, but I could tell he was really excited to one day get another crack at it, and I sure would be, too.

I was on the crimson skies 2 team. I made the desert fox airplane showed here. It was really sad when they canned Crimsons Skies 3 to focus on Shadowrun.
For some reason, I keep waiting to hear something like "after the end of the war, Wiseman returned to his rural Alabama homestead to be with his wife and now grown kids. He worked the farm for 40 years until his death in 1985. During his time he kept in touch with his old unit, and as time went on, they all met their final calling. He continued to make regular trips to honor the men who gave the greatest sacrifice a man could give to his country, and visited the Captains tomb." Or something.

The games industry crash of the 1990s led to them collapsing. Microsoft bought out FASA to gain control of their IPs.

Great job so far on the LP. I have a suggestion for the Plane of the Day for when you start interacting with The Protectorate of Ontario: the Avro Arrow: The Cold War Interceptor that never came to full fruition. It's a good tie-in with the territory and an interesting story all together. Can't wait to see more from both the LP and yourself.
I would like a sequel of Crimson Skies. It has an excellent storyline, an amazing aesthetic, and the most important thing in a game: it has fun. They created a wonderful "world" with air pirates, people living in zeppelins and chaotic air battles with zeppelins, exotic airplanes and fancy weapons. A sequel would be an good alternative to the lots of standard existing FPS games. It could even have a simulator mode with more real physics, and an easy game mode.
So we have micro shaft to blame. Why am I not F#$%ING surprised? We need another Crimson Skies, or at least a spiritual successor. We need more multi sandbox leveled exploration games again. Especially like this. I wonder who's going to be the bold ones to get the job done well.

Lets face it, Microsoft Studios hasn't had well executed creative games like this since Jordan left and they ignored his pleas of making another game. The only games that were looking to be competent to be original since were cancelled as Microsoft demanded more and more changes and then shut it down. Microsoft, you didn't need to get all of those new Studios. You needed someone like Jordan, who still talks to your people, being able to push forward IP's again. You need creative competences again and see what greatness you had, and move forward on it.
Oh, so he's left Microsoft? I guess what he was saying in August 2017 about trying to get Microsoft to reboot the franchise didn't go as planned. Such a damn, damn shame. It's so far, but... I can only dream that one day, we'll have a great Crimson skies game on its way. I would even be satisfied with a fan-made remake of the first one at this point.

Recently the game's re release of the second game on xbox, had a LOT of people playing it again. As such dollar signs danced in their eyes once more, and this can be good at times. There's rumblings of it maybe being a possibility. MEANWHILE. A similar game was made some years ago on PC you can find on STEAM. This game is simply called BOMB. A videogame named BOMB, that I have to specify clearly to make sure no one freaks out and thinks I'm making some kind of threat in today's knee jerk world, that has very similar vibes. It's not a perfect game by any means, but it may be a game you wish to check out.

Dear Microsoft. No Crimson Skies or Bloody Roar? No buy. I made my decision I think. I don't think the HALO series is enough to bring me back anymore and sure as hell not Gears of War. Without Crimson Skies coming back, using an IP that's been wastefully laid by the way side WELL before it's time, I just don't think I want a new xbox. I'll wait till others get rid of an older one for dirt cheap where I can play the digital copy I bought of the last one, and wait. An open map world for sky pirates to fly in co op. That's the dream, that's what we need.

Been watching the LP, and loving it! Though I keep rewatching this intro--the craftsmanship here is amazing, and I LOVE the documentary aesthetics.

Oh, so he's left Microsoft? I guess what he was saying in August 2017 about trying to get Microsoft to reboot the franchise didn't go as planned. Such a damn, damn shame. It's so far, but... I can only dream that one day, we'll have a great Crimson skies game on its way. I would even be satisfied with a fan-made remake of the first one at this point.
@@Nasfelia He actually left long long ago. But he still talks with them, and often when he has he would bring up the game. Recently the game's re release of the second game on xbox, had a LOT of people playing it again. As such dollar signs danced in their eyes once more, and this can be good at times. There's rumblings of it maybe being a possibility.
MEANWHILE. A similar game was made some years ago on PC you can find on STEAM. This game is simply called BOMB. A videogame named BOMB, that I have to specify clearly to make sure no one freaks out and thinks I'm making some kind of threat in today's knee jerk world, that has very similar vibes. It's not a perfect game by any means, but it may be a game you wish to check out.
@@Bangcat Well, thanks for the info. I really hope this will lead somewhere. I'm usually reserved toward nostalgia feelings but the PC Crimson Skies was one of my first game and still is one of my favourite nowadays. A reboot would be a dream come true as far as I'm concerned.

Dear Microsoft. No Crimson Skies or Bloody Roar? No buy. I made my decision I think. I don't think the HALO series is enough to bring me back anymore and sure as hell not Gears of War.
Without Crimson Skies coming back, using an IP that's been wastefully laid by the way side WELL before it's time, I just don't think I want a new xbox. I'll wait till others get rid of an older one for dirt cheap where I can play the digital copy I bought of the last one, and wait.
An open map world for sky pirates to fly in co op. That's the dream, that's what we need.
