I don’t purchase nail polish, toxic bathroom toiletries, scented candles, kitchenware, bedding, home decor, craft items or anything for DIY. No more jigsaw puzzles, plants, mirrors, towels, clothes, shoes, and so on. I have enough and don’t plan to add to my home, only subtract!

There are different needs at different stages of our lives. Buying thoughtfully is the key. I started decluttering about 7 years ago and started with spices. I finally accepted that I was never going to make all those fragrant and nuanced meals that my fantasy self envisioned, and it was almost a relief to pare spices down to the ones I actually use.
The thing about spices that a lot of people don't know is that a great many of them have a short shelf life, so buying spices, especially fragrant ones, that you do not have an immediate use for is a bad idea, as years or even months later they can become largely impotent, and then the unknowing user often goes about using them in a recipe without obtaining their desired effect. A good idea is to smell your spices before use and discard those that are no longer potent.
I love the "meals my fantasy self envisioned!" That's how I feel just about every day. Lol.

A great video with lots of good ideas. I don’t really buy things other than food and clothes when the old ones wear out. So there is a lot of things I don’t buy anymore, but I did before I became a minimalist. Now I look at not buying things not having to declutter it in the future

we moved 3x in rapid succession then finally bought our dream house w ample storage in 2019. Perfect clutter storm for keeping storage units AND getting more stuff during lockdown. Buried in clutter! ESP DIY hair products & DIY craft decor :( Finally went "silver" hair & I don't need BOXES of crap

I'll admit, I was supergluing eyes onto a knitted frog while listening to this. I have A LOT of different craft supplies, but I am slowly going through my stash and turning it into things. Part of my clutter is projects I've made in honour of TV shows. I know most of the people involved in the actual shows would like them, so hopefully I can find a way to get them to their proper owners!

@@thegrittyguru Well, I didn't manage to superglue my fingers together, which is a win. It's also very odd tagging an actor of actress online when you've made them. Thankfully, some have gone to their real life versions. It's nice to know that people appreciate your work, regardless of your medium!
The frog did turn out cute, and is now sporting a hoodie. At least I'm not buying more yarn, which is a big deal.
