    Oh, you got such an ear, pointing things out in a song I've heard a billion times but still manage to show me something new, which really tells of the band's mega quality. Please pause and comment all you want and go on, Jinjer is too much fun and a world to explore. This is a bit old, nothing wrong with that, btw, love their old stuff, but I guess "Vortex" from their last album could be interesting to react to.

    Killer guitar, killer bassist (self taught), killer drummer (classic piano trained), and a vocal godess. Two years ago when I discovered this band, it was love at first listen amazing. It's one of those few bands that are as good live as in studio. This is a band not formed in studio but with many hours on the road, when the next gig was their only money to survive. I listened to them back in 2015 when "sit stay roll" came out, when they were more like a hardcore/beatdown band with some clean vocals and I'm more then surprised and happy about their evolution, Jinjer is just dope! and I also guess they have a new drummer since then, so the `classical piano trained` drummer is new to the band.

      @@philippaul2374yes, Vlad was brand new in the band (and apparently had never played drums in a band before) when this video was shot. The video was intended to showcase him, but soon took off virally on the strength of ridiculous musicianship and stunning vocal prowess.

  • @BTAColorado
    @BTAColorado 2 года назад +132

    You mentioned the drummer's (Vlad) relaxed fulcrum. Vlad only taught himself the drums for the band he was in just prior to Jinjer because they couldn't find a drummer. He played guitar for that band until he had to switch to drumming. Vlad is the only one in the band with formal music training. He's a classically trained pianist, which may be where that technique he uses was adapted from.

  • @christophercheck1590
    @christophercheck1590 2 года назад +80

    The verses start in 7, then slide into 6. It's a cool transition, because they basically just drop that last 8th note and transition so smooth out of 7 you don't really notice. It's always impressive to do a weird meter like 7 and still be able to execute it smoothly enough where it doesn't feel jittery/angular, and you can transition out of it without really anyone noticing.
    The lyrics sort of feed off of the musical dichotomy. The pisces, as an astrological sign, is all about warring extremes, about the passive, gentle soul that can explode and destroy. The construction of the song underscores that well.

    Really enjoyed this reaction. As a guitar player of 40 years I appreciated this in a different way. I generally like to hear solos and shredding but groups like this and Tool helped me to appreciate composition and odd time signatures as a means of progressing a composition. This is just the beginning, hopefully you stay on the Jinjer ride. Check out “ Home back“ for peace with awesome time changes that’s not too crazy. Then when you’re ready to be blown away as a drummer check out “ mediator“. For a beautiful subdued piece that slowly builds into a brutal climax check out “ wallflower“. Sorry to bombard you with so much but Jinjer has turned out to be one of those bands for me

    Also.. not sure if it was mentioned.. but time signatures are 7/8, 6/8, and some 4/4 slash 8/8 mixed in.
    Update- verses 1 and 2 are in 7/8
    Pre-chorus(s) are 6/8
    Chorus is 2 measures of 8/8 and one measure of 4/4... and the rest of the song can be 6/8 or 3/4 if you were in the army. 😁

    • @a59274c
      @a59274c 2 года назад

      @drumrolltony if you want a supreme challenge in time signatures... there was a jazz band at Montlake Terrace high-school in the late 90s that played a song called "the first circle" by Bob Kurnow's LA big band with Pat Matheney on guitar... song is 12/8 10/8 (alternating each measure) except for the chorus which is 8/8. They fucking killed it. I was so jealous of the lead trumpet player. He's the clapper in the intro (_23_2_23_2_2, _23_23_2_2) took me weeks to figure it out. Cheers. Side note... this would be an amazing reaction.

    As others have said, Perennial live at Wacken is the ideal great next step. Who Is Gonna Be The One is another that is well worth doing sooner rather than later, especially since the instrumental composition is fire - the re-composed it to work with just Roman's guitar and Eugene's bass after their rhythm guitarist left and it's far more sophisticated than the original imo. Several have mentioned Home Back which is about their experiences when their hometown was caught in the 2014 war in eastern Ukraine that set the stage for the the current invasion. It hits hard and speaks powerfully for the millions of ordinary people caught in the middle of every war.

    I would give you specific Jinjer songs to check out from a drummer's perspective but that would pretty much be all of them. Not just their current drummer either. There are some drum playthrough videos to watch. A "drum cam" video of their previous drummer playing "Sit Stay Roll Over" which is quite good. The band uses in-ear monitors and so their stage volume is actually so low there is at least one drum playthrough filmed on stage during a concert. Captain Clock has some very interesting musical stuff on it. Mediator, Vortex (both new tracks). I speak Astronomy is really complex musically. Judgement and Punishment is very unique as well. A close second is just about every other song they have ever done. Which probably makes it really difficult to do set lists because there are around 12 years of fan favorites from their entire catalog.

    Major props for not losing your focus on the instruments when "the voice" hit. I only found your channel recently, but after the first few videos (UTA and several from Band-Maid), I was really looking forward to seeing how you'd handle this one. You did not disappoint in the slightest.

    Marched into your channel with the Nightwish army and found you going into that Jinjer-Swamp, too! Very cool - I super-enjoy your very analytical reactions ... obviously mixed with all these wow's and ouhhh's and all that! Keep it going, I enjoy your channel already! And I must say: keep stopping and rewinding as much as you feel to! there are enough reactionchannels just letting it flow through the whole song and giving an impressed "wow oh my god" after the song, I - speaking only for me - always will prefer seeing some reaction on an analytical base aswell because, I am not a singer, vocalcoach, tech-tank, director or composer - so this is the content I dig to find new details! Thanks a lot and have fun with the jinjer and nightwish troops... and maybe we will see you soon with some more departments those troops are shoulder on shoulder with (I'm always loving me some Epica-Reactions too xD).

    I've watched so many reaction videos to this song and others from this band and so many people focus almost entirely on the vocals (understandably!). It's refreshing to hear so much professional commentary on the rest of the band. They are all so damn good! Thank you Tony! I learned a lot!

    Jinjer has a very broad range of styles they use for their songs. If you want to see Tatiana's flexibility I can suggest "Teacher Teacher." For a great look into her stage performance. "Perennial" live @ Wacken. For a deep leap into the pool for both her heavy vocals+ the bands crazy composition skills I can suggest "Pit of Consciousness" Live @ Kiev. And for just pure aggression you have "Home Back" and "Sit Stay Roll Over". And for her pure cleans you have "Bad Water" which is a great song as well. Tons of great music to be had. One thing you will notice. They do a ton of time signature work. Up/Down all the time. Will def give your ear a work out for sure!

    Jinjer is a music nerds favorite metal band. every single member is uber talented and is the PERFECT piece to create the genre that is Jinjer. constantly playing with time signatures and blend other genres like jazz, blues, classical, reggae, rap and more. you'll love their catalog if this song peaked your interest

    You're on a great trajectory, Tony. Because the Trifecta of Metal, Hard Rock and Rock is: Jinjer, Band-Maid, and The Warning -- all pushing their core genres into the next realm!🤘🤘🤘 So maybe check out The Warning next. They have a ton of songs to choose from. Here's a great place to start: Evolve - ruclips.net/video/3_RB0tRI624/видео.html BTW - Band-Maid will be in Seattle at The Neptune, Wednesday, October 12. They are playing the AfterShock Festival in Sacramento, CA, Oct 9 with The Warning! Unfortunately, Jinjer, being from Ukraine, has had to cancel their touring. We all hope they are safe.

    Jinjer was the band that actually got me into the heavier side of metal. Vlad the Drummer to me along with Eugene the Bassist are the heartbeat of this band. Eugene to me is one of the top bassists in the game.

    Great reaction!! It’s always fun to see people hear Tatiana for the first time. I’m not such a metal head, but it’s hard not to admire the musicians here. I love the way they switch time signatures here and there-just another way to be unpredictable. As I understand it, this piece was a showcase for this drummer who had just joined the band.
    As I understand it, Tatiana is here in the US with her husband, but the guys are all in Ukraine and fighting. They’re also selling merch to raise funds for the war effort.
    So you’re a drum guy-how do you feel about beatboxing?

    • @DrumRollTonyReacts

      I love beatboxing but I have zero experience in it so my comments would be pretty ignorant. I guess that's ok tho😁

      @@DrumRollTonyReacts I was going to recommend an a capella group (Voiceplay). Didn’t want to tell you about them if you hated beatboxing! LOL. They just dropped a new cover, Imagine Dragons’ Enemy, featuring AleXa, who recently won the American Song Contest.

    I myself have been a musician in various genres for over 40 years, but when I heard Jinjer with this song for the first time a few years ago, I knew something very special was happening to me > and I hadn't dealt with this metalcore genre before very busy, although for me Jinjer is much, much more than a metalcore band!!!
