Great tip as always Todd. You're helping me to have a much better relationship with my driver. Hearing "nice drive" is so much better than hearing "that's ok, we'll help you find it." 👍
Awesome! Let’s keep it going!!
This is the best lesson I have ever had. I have had countles lessons in person, as well as 3 or 4 online lesson plans in the last couple years, but NONE have got me to hit a draw that starts out to the right and comes back to center target. Successfully shallowing the club is essential to do this and has been a difficult task for me. It was step three in the process that made ALL THE DIFFERENCE. Hands inside the line-Club outside the line. Club head shallows on the downswing adding 2-4 degrees of club path change which is what you need to start the ball to the right. It will take time to ingrain this permanently but wow. Is it fun to actually have some success at something I have wanted to do for 20 years. THANK YOU!
Kevin, you made our day...thank you! Nothing better than when our content helps a fellow golfer enjoy this great game. Have you read my book, The Bad Lie? It covers the entire system in detail and has helped thousands of golfers. Here is the

Wow what a great video ! This is the only video that shows you how to set up to hit a high draw. Now just grip it and rip it. I fought a slice all my life. No other video’s show you how to set up for a High Draw. Thanks a lot
Thanks Jim! Time to hit the high draw 👊
What led me to How to Hit a Draw with the Driver, I do not know. However, I just came home from a round in which I hit every fairway (seriously every one) and with significantly greater distance. I watched and re watched your video and made some notes to take to the course I cannot say enough about your work. I've hit low, running draws for months with limited success. This video got me more flight, more carry, more distance and much better scoring opportunities. Tell your boss you need a raise. I am a very happy camper tonight. THANKS!
Art, you the man! This is fantastic...sometimes a simple suggestion can make all the difference. The is one of those times...more great content to come....hope you subscribed.
Great videos. Been hitting in low 90's. Recently watched and practiced tips offered in your videos. Played in a light rain and strong wind for front nine yesterday and a 48. Settled down and worked on tips. Shot a 37 on the back. Thank you!
Hi Todd,
I am from Kolkata, India. I play on course the oldest golf club outside British Isles - Royal Calcutta. I have been watching your videos for a while. I am almost 57, 5'4" and a late starter in golf. I am playing mostly mid 90s to 105, although I have quite a few low 90s and one 90 in last one year. I am fading my driver a bit. Although I hit flatter trajectory and roll quite a bit, thus staying competitive with much younger players in distance. I realise that with the rains in, I need to hit high draws. Problem is, I am hitting quite right of target when I am trying to hit in to out and high. I hope this video will give me some results.
Thanks for the kind words and sharing your great story. You are making progress, congrats! Golf is a journey of learning for all of us. If you enjoy reading, you would find my book The Bad Lie helpful. You can find it on Amazon here www.badliegolfbook.com/

All great information, thanks. One thing I suggest is to have a strategy for each hole. This can help make the next shot easier, better angle to green, avoid hazards, etc. On the course I play most greens slope back to front so you avoid being too long. Much easier putting uphill vs. Fast downhiller.

Great video Todd. A back to the basics truly repeatable swing. As we all bounce around this incredible game of ours it's always good to get back to the basics.
As they say, keep it simple 👊
Great video and instructions as always Todd all your videos are so helpful
Excellent instructions especially on the tip of the golf club facing out on the finish on the backswing.
Thank You
Thanks Tony! What other topics would you like to see us cover?
I'm glad I rewatched this video. I finally get the "hands in, clubhead out" concept. I just grabbed my club and watched where these two were. I did not have the hands i and club head out. I had hands in and clubhead in. Hopefully this will make a difference when I change. Thank you for all the videos. Keep them coming!

Still slicing. Checked my tee level shallow club head enough slag and still no joy

As a card-carrying coach, all of these tips work and are spot on. As a player, I notice that if I were to implement all of these tips at the same time, I hook it off the course. I found that working on one thing at a time over an hour or even tow or three practice sessions let’s me work into it and process how the set up and positions influence each other. Took four sessions on the range to work this out and boy oh boy…the results are fantastic. That draw is pretty, but the distance increase is gorgeousness!
Great post here Michael. Thanks for adding to the conversation 👊
Great teaching video as always Todd. In this video you talk about changing your aim to the right a little I think but I presume that you are only closing your stance and not pointing the driver face a little to the right? Your related video on aiming the driver clearly states that the driver face should be aimed down the target line whereas the stance should be closed to favour a draw.
Thanks very much for all your teaching videos. I wish you would publish a hard copy book on all your teaching!

Just hit the first few after watching this video come on and I am not even close to my goal, but the impact, improvement and shape is almost immediate. Thank you and onward to trying to perfect it.
Great to hear....do you get to practice often?
I will definitely give this a shot. The irons video helped me a lot. As well as the drill when you stop in the backswing to focus on tempo. Was absolute outing my irons farther than ever. Walked a few holes and felt consistent. My driver however not so lucky...
Awesome! Appreciate you taking the time to post. We have a couple great videos on the driver.
Todd, thank you! By raising my lead arm I feel like am sweeping the driver, and have more control. Hitting it now either straight or a slight draw! Wish I had known this set up 30 years ago!
You got it now my friend...thanks for posting! Have you seen my latest book, The Bad Lie? It covers all these concepts in detail www.badliegolfbook.com/
I saw this tip Friday morning and used it an hour later during my round. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I hit some of the straightest and longest drives in a long, long time. The take-away seemed to be the key for getting my clubhead "in the slot" on the downswing. Just one question: during set-up as you set your feet to the right, does the clubface stay pointed towards the target or does it move to the right too? My best results (e.g. strongest draws) were a result of me keeping the face pointed at the ultimate target and not aiming right along the line of my feet. Thanks for this excellent tip!
Best question of the day! Keep the face pointed at the target at address....even as you rotate your body to the right of the target...takes a little getting used to, but works wonders!
@@USGOLFTVshow Thanks...again!

Thanks Todd for the video. I have been hitting a high fade off the tee with my driver and it is killing my distance. More of a balloon type shot. Hitting a draw has never been in my bag. I just retired so I now have the time to give your tips a try.
James, give it a shot and let us know how it goes. You may also want to get in for a club fitting...sounds like the shaft in your driver may be too flexible...just a thought. Thanks for posting!
Great step-by-step lesson Todd.
We got you. Thanks!
It seems to me, from my own experience, that if I drop the right shoulder as you show, I am more likely to hit a high push to the right, often with a slight fade at the end. The face of the driver is open. I do work on keeping my left wrist bowed, not cupped. Cupped will definitely cause a push right. But even with the wrist bowed, if I lower my right shoulder the face seems to come through open. Also, I do focus on keeping the club head outside the hands on the takeaway. Any suggestions? One fault that can creep in and that will also cause a push right is failure to turn the chest and hips back fully. At my age of 80, it is easy to forget to do this. I am quite flexible, that is not the problem. But it takes time and a bit of a deliberate rhythm to the swing to make that full turn. It is so easy to be focused on the shot and thus in too much of a hurry to complete the swing. So the torso does not to turn, while the arms continue the backswing, creating the wrong angle between arms and chest. By the way, I love my driver, it's my favorite club and the one I have the most confidence in.
John, great question. If the face is square at address and at the top of the swing, something is causing it to open up on the downswing. This is very, very common. I will do a video on it to help provide some suggestions. Thanks!
I'm saving this one to refer back to. I'm going to try this out at the range. Thanks

I'm consistently hitting a draw the only problem is that the ball starts left of center. I'm having hard time starting the ball to the right. Path issues. any ideas?
Great question, ball starts based on the position of the clubface. If the ball is starting too far left, check to make sure the face is not closed. Hope that helps.
At long last i now understand Driver swing. Thanks a million
Our pleasure Bill....are you a subscriber?
Hi Todd This is a very helpful video, and raises a query! Does the clubhead continue moving to the right of the aim line for a short distance after impact, or does it immediately begin to turn over, moving to the left of the target line?
Great question. Short answer is it depends on the swing style and club. For most golfers they should feel like the clubhead continues to move to the right after the strike. The Vertical Line Swing which you can see here covers this ruclips.net/video/4obK1N-N9qY/видео.htmlsi=udJCJGaOzTTIw1Qg
Really good demo..trying it on the course tomorrow

@@USGOLFTVshow the recommended video in your reply is how to fix a slice. I have a pull hook. any tips to fix this problem.
Great tips! When you are swinging down toward the ball, are you “throwing” the club? At the ball or? I think I pull the club down with my arms. Not hitting the driver very far. I hit the ball high, more like a pop fly and it carries 230 240, but it’s not a penetrating shot that I see from long hitters. Love your show!
Great explanation with easy visual, cheers Todd 👍
Robert, thank you. Are you a subscriber of our channel?
@@USGOLFTVshow yes I am , from freezing Scotland 🥶
Thank you for sharing your expertise. For a Draw, isn’t the Driver going to be closed first before the back swing? And, then hit right?
The key is to have the face closed to the direction you are swinging the club. Make sense?
Best draw video I've watched...great job. Had a question...if you have a club path that's 2-3 degrees to the right (Trackman), but still having ball contact towards the heel with the driver....what are some tips to fix that....may be an early extension and my body moving towards the ball on the downswing.
Post of the day....thanks! More to come....
Want the fun story and thanks enjoyed it
Do you address the ball on the toe with driver to hit a draw? Also does the same setup and takeaway work with irons and hybrids?
For many years I have addressed the ball off the toe of the club. This is a personal preference, nothing more. If you have not already, take a look at our book, The Bad Lie were we cover all this in detail www.badliegolfbook.com/
Todd, you are the best. Great advice as always. :)
Thanks! More to come...
Interesting. Where should the driver been aligned to. To the target, in between the target and the swing path? Also, where should the bottom of the swing arc be. Obviously before the ball but by how much? Thanks
Alain, thanks for asking. The clubface should be square to your target with the stance slightly closed. Make sense?
Great explanation thanks!! On my way to the 🏌️♂️course 👍

Hello Todd, I just got through reading the The Science of the Slice, a great read and most helpful in shaping my shots.
In this video, what does raising your lead arm or wrist do in the swing?
Glad you enjoyed Science of the Slice...much appreciated. My raising the lead arm you set yourself up for a more inside to out swing path, this is key for hitting a high draw with the driver. Hope that helps 👊
Hi Todd: I have been working on learning to hit a draw most of this golfing season and still no such luck. I set my feet and shoulders aiming slightly to the right and close my club face a bit, I just can’t seem to be able to count on my draw, probably hit one out 8 try’s. I’ll give your suggestion a try.
You got it, be sure to let us know how it goes.
Enjoy your lesson great job
Thanks Joseph! Which tip did you find most helpful?
Any grip change?
Fantastic session...thank you for detailed review.
You bet! What part did you find the most helpful?
Wish you had covered ball position. With the draw is it further back to center? Rather than opposite the left heel like when hitting a powerfade with a driver???
Good question, here you go ruclips.net/video/t0Dyp7qMa7s/видео.html
One question: At set up, is the driver club face pointing toward the target or is it pointed to the right of the target like your stance is pointed to the right of the target ?
Clubface at the target line with the feet slightly closed to the target...good question
great vid! look like wolff's backswing is great for draw?
It is working well for him 👊
Todd just a quick question on the set up. It seems to me when addressing the ball the club face is more towards the toe and not the center. Am I seeing this right?
Gary, you have a keen eye! Yes, this is something I started years ago in college and kept it in. Not 100% sure why in all honesty LOL, but it works. I have a few more gems like this in my book The Bad Lie if you enjoy learning, see here www.badliegolfbook.com/

In efforts to “rebalance” is there a sense of pulling down, pulling arrow out of quiver, out tossing or simply rotation around?
Good question, it really depends on the golfer and their style of golf swing. There is a combination of all the items you listed to some degree it is more a matter of the timing of each. I know that is vague answer, however it is really base on the individual. Thanks for posting!
@@USGOLFTVshow thanks, just curious. Since most of your videos are great for senior golfers, how might you suggest Tom Watson initiated his downswing. He seems like a great model for much of what you highlight and suggest. Any ideas? Or Swing analysis?

Great video. Does your right shoulder down at the finish also apply to iron shots?
Chris, good question, yes it can...however be sure the ball is positioned slightly back in the stance to avoid hitting behind the ball...make sense?
Years ago, playing balata balls, I hit high 10 to 15 yard draws. Now with new ball technology at best I can get 2 to 3 yard draws but the flight is low. I find it much more difficult to hit draws with new balls and slower swing speed. Any suggestions on how to get the 10 to 15 yard high draws?
I’ve been trying to learn to hit a draw but I can’t figure out how to do it. Everyone, including your video, doesn’t show where the club face is positioned. Just watching your video, when I’ve tried what you said, my ball goes in the direction of the swing. Same thing happens when I try to do a fade. BTW, the way you show the takeaway and finish is what most instructional videos say to do to hit your driver straight. Can you clarify please?
Brian, here is a video we did that will help ruclips.net/video/zviz0extkPg/видео.html
I am squaring the clubface at waist high and am working on a more vertical swing as you suggest. Now I am over drawing the ball. What do you suggest ?
If the flight is a low hook, then open the face slightly. If it is a high hook, square up the stance.
Thanks for the video. Two questions. Do I change my ball position ( like move it back a bit) compared to my normal driver setup and do I tee the ball higher than my normal driver setup?
Good question, if we are trying to hit a draw with the driver then yes the ball might be moved back slightly from "normal", however it is minimal. The height of the ball on a tee should not have too much impact on hitting the draw...hope that helps.
Thanks for the update
Todd, I wanted to confide in you with this little dilemma I had last Fall and get your opinion on this sticky situation. I know you wouldn't steer me wrong. I was playing for the Club Championship and after 17 holes my opponent and I were dead even. I had the honors off the 18th tee and I hit my drive about 250 yards right down the middle of the fairway. My opponent's drive went straight right into the woods. I helped him look for his ball for about 10 minutes and finally he says to me, "Why don't you go back and hit your second shot. I'll look for my ball for a couple of more minutes. If I don't find it, I'll go back and tee up again." I went out to the fairway and hit my second shot. It was a beauty and landed about 10 feet from the pin. Just as my ball hit the green, from out of the woods I heard "Found It". The ball came flying out of the woods and dropped a few inches from the pin for a gimme. Here's the dilemma: Do I take the cheating bastard's ball out of my pocket and confront him with it or do I just keep my mouth shut?
This is a good one... 😂
Is there anything specific about club grip to hit that high driver draw
We have students who hit a high draw with a weak grip and strong grips. Our suggestion is a neutral grip is usually best. 👍
Previous vids you suggested, putting right hand under slightly,is this still applicable?
Yes, great pick up! The lead arm high works for all clubs when the desire is to hit a high draw...make sense?
Is it the lower ur right shoulder the more draw? Or is it the more ur aimed to the right the bigger the draw. I've been trying to get better at shaping, seen lots of videos. So I try to use the info and put everything together to get it. Every time I draw a driver it's a huge draw, more then what I want so I'm just trying to get it right so I hit it every time.
Good question, it is a combo of the two that is key. I cover this in detail in my latest book, The Bad Lie. www.badliegolfbook.com/
Is best to close the club face before takeoff. Thats what I do with my iron, I slightly close it to get a draw
A little shut face to the target is not all bad when wanting to hit a draw...just don’t over do it
I have a weak left hand wrist, hard for me to 7 iron and long irons, so l had to get hybrids, what grip can l use for iron's.
Deep dive? Agree with everything you say but you never mentioned the club face path at impact. That's pretty important. Do everything you say but have an open club face at impact and you've got yourself a massive push. I ought to know I make that mistake all the time. Club face has to be square or slightly closed at impact, not just during takeaway.

How do you hit a draw with Teton driver?
Great video!!
Thanks! Which part did you find the most helpful?
I never had the thought of raising the handle (elevating the left arm) before. Great way to keep the right elbow in and swing “in to out”.
@@stevesheppard3941 you got it!
Love the tips but am a little confused on the last one concerning making sure the butt end of the club points outside the target line on the followthrough. I see you do this BUT as you finish your followthrough you reverse the direction (with a twirl) and the butt end finishes to the left. Why not just keep the butt end on the finish of the followthrough to the right by bowing the right wrist? Seems easier.
You are keen with your awesome. 👊 The club twirl is after the shot and an old habit. The key is to have the butt end outside the target line in the finish. Make sense?
@@USGOLFTVshow Yes, it makes sense and I notice that the vast majority of golfers do the same thing as you (for comfort, I guess) so it must be good. For me, it's just as comfortable to lay the clubhead to the left on the finish as to the right so that's what I do--besides, the ball is long gone way before you lay the club to the right or left on the finish so it doesn't really matter does it as long as the butt is facing right (clubhead leaning left) on the first few feet of the followthrough.
Now, for what it's worth, you are now my favorite youtube golf instructor and even though you always say you don't mind if someone disagrees with you (I hate the "it's my way or the highway" instructors) I have found very little I disagree with you about. FWIW, I now consider you my favorite instructor because you are very easy to understand and you are super responsive to your followers. I hope that as you get more popular with hundreds if not thousands of comments that you will still maintain the same level of responsiveness, but if you don't it will be understandable.
One more question please. Who would you say your instruction compares to? With a vertical, steep and upright type approach I'm thinking Don Trahan, Shawn Clements, Mike Malaska, Dave Seeman, Jimmy Ballard, Gary Edwins-right? Am I correct in this assessment?
I'm 65 and in the last 5 years I've had both hips and both knees replaced. As a result I've list some distance. I notice this mostly from 7 iron thru all my wedges. I also seem to push these shots a little right. Chipping is my saving grace. Any suggestions to help? Thanks.

Closed Stance usually makes me Draw every time.

Any tips for someone like myself who pushes the ball right? I don’t really slice, I just seem push it right.
Good question, the ball starts primarily based off the face...make sure your clubface is not open at address or in the takeaway....that would be the first place to look...let us know if that helps
Saw the picture of the hoop at the start. Looked like you would hit it off the toe. If you have a tendency to hit high toe driver shots, should you start off with the ball more towards the heel of the driver?
Brian, good question, you certainly could...I would add that shots with the driver are better off the high toe and low heal...toe shots go further and spin less for more distance, however they can also hook more than when hit off the heal...
How does this work with your "experienced golfer" swing?
Kurt, thanks for asking. Many of the same principles in both. Works well 👊
Where is the club face aiming?
To help lower my shoulder I think of a movement similar to skipping rocks
Great visual....thanks for adding to the conversation...you are spot on
Good. If all else fails, sell the clubs and take up checkers or sit and watch the weather channel. 😂😂😂
