GTO vs. Reality: Humans Do NOT Act Like Poker Bots in Live Poker

  • In this video, CLP poker coach Nate (N8Ball on Discord) fires a triple barrel bluff in a spot where GTO would have give ups due to the fact the the villian should arrive at river with a lot of top pair. Nate makes the case that live cash game players do not play anywhere close to GTO. His logic is that many live players simply don't call off appropriately when the pressure is on.
    If you can "live node lock" that your opponent folds top pair then over bluffing becomes profitable. Bart explains how top pair/top kicker is twice as likely in this spot due to Nate's specific hand and that you've got to be careful not to take street poker too far at the lower stakes.

    i would lean towards a give up here in the long run because i think the fact that this guy tanked for a long time and folded means that he probably had ATs or T9s and caught the backdoor draw on the turn and now he is really torn because you've polarized yourself and he isn't giving you that much credit for a strong hand at this point. so you just happened to run into a precise part of his range, probably the absolute bottom of his range at that point.
    i believe if he had AQ or KQ he would have just tossed in one chip after tanking so long.
    he must have been torn between "why would he bet so big, he probably doesn't have much" and "oh maybe he is going for max value because it's obvious where i'm at"

      yes, now in V seat...with that kind of river bet sizing I'm never folding AQ, nor KQ here.Although, why AQ/KQ keeps calling (Flop n T) rather large bets?? I'd either raise or fold. Smaller kickers (J, 9, 8) just must've folded the turn. V was set to lay down the winning hand.

    I think we have a terrible hand for bluffing this river.
    We block a lot of the flush continues on flop and turn, gearing opponent to having 1p+ hands.
    When we take larger sizing too and still get called, I would be very wary of bluffing this river.
    Villain has filtered out too many flush continues on the flop with our large sizing and is heavily geared towards Qx when called on turn, except for hands like ATss / T9ss, maybe some AsXs
    Getting people to fold out strong top pairs in live poker is -EV imho

    • @tipsy09
      @tipsy09 4 месяца назад

      ......especially on a board like this
      so does this mean that, unless you're up against a nit, if you have AQ here, we should be mindlessly calling down here all the time?

  • @rowdyrancher6471

    I'm having a hard time understanding why this jam is not a very + EV jam. Our perceived range that fires 3 streets is AA, KK, AQ, 10s, AJ-10ss, AKss, and KJ at some partial frequency (I don't know how many players would fire turn and river for that sizing without the redraw to spades). Our range is much more value heavy than not. We have 27 value combos and 11 bluffs if we assume KJ does this at 50% frequency (imo it does it much, much less). Opponents value range contains 10s, Q10 suited (3! pot not sure how many offsuit Q10 he has), AQ, KQ, and QJ and some sparse drawing hands that hang on. Given our perceived range I believe that KQ and QJ fold and AQ calls at low frequency as it only chops with the AQ portion of our value range. So 5 combos are always calling and 18 combos fold and 12 combos call at some low frequency (I would guess 25% so 3 combos). This is not including the bluff combos opponent has. How is this bluff just not printing?

  • @NorCal_Poker
    @NorCal_Poker 4 месяца назад +2

    I think the jam is strictly based on the type of opponent. Stations: check. OMC’s: jam Unknows: go with your gut

    On the turn, if it’s the 6 of hearts, I like a check-back for hero to realize equity. When it’s the 6 of spades I think hero definitely has to keep bluffing, as he’s picked up more outs, and because he has a lot of hands he wants to bet for value the same way.

  • @teeraw4575
    @teeraw4575 4 месяца назад +3

    This hand definately feels like a give up blocking both flush and straight draws that will call call fold but really just comes down to if you think villian is going to be overfolding in this spot then jamming obviously becomes the best play. Knowing the player type becomes much more important than playing theoritically sound in spots like this because some people are incapable of folding top pair here and some will level themselves into thinking hero only has AQ+ and they ll fold anything worse.

    One thing I've picked up on and learned from these is how often it seems the goal is to have a pot size bet on the river. Is that always the goal? To try and pick hands that will play for stacks and structure it in a way to have a pot size bet at the river? Or is it only certain hands or certain stack depths? Is this more of a cash game style or tournament also?

    Great hand! Don't know about in-game but from the safety of my apartment I would've give up on on riv cuz chances are he's not folding a Q. For a moment I thought maybe we're also targeting AK but even if he somehow gets to riv with that holding, it's pretty much the only thing we'd get to fold and since we;'re blocking straight draw...CHECK!

    Fun hand. Pretty standard up until the river, other than Nate taking pretty large sizing. On the river, I think this play works pretty often on lower quality players.
    As to the reveal fun? We almost have one without seeing the cards right? V never really has Q9 or worse right? V did not have QT. Did V really fold AQ here?
    I think we can say that Villain had 1 of 2 hands. KQ or QJ. QJ is probably "supposed" to be a fold here. I think KQ is "supposed" to call.
