As an electrician I gotta say I went through two of the Milwaukee locking bit holder and they didn’t last long. I switched to dewalt and I’m very happy with it. It’s slim and durable.
Great information. I have accumulated bit holders from Milwaukee, Dewalt, Bosch, Makita and a few others. They all have strengths and weaknesses. It is always good to watch your reviews.
I've got the Wiha Centrofix. I do like the slim profile of thst Dewalt though. Dewalt also makes that pivoting bit holder, which comes in clutch sometimes.
The dewalt is my favorite. They do or at least used to have a higher failure rate than the standard build locking holder. They might have fixed the problem. The black collar is or was a piece of aluminum bonded to a steel underlayment. That would seperate. Still usable with some difficulty. My favorite of the standard builds is made by bosch and has a blue locking collar.
My favorite bit holder is the Milwaukee Locking bit holder 73 mm. It's sold separate, or in these handy bit sets, like the Shockwave CD Set 32pc for just €16 on Amzn The big advantage of this bit holder is the one-handed operation. Pull the ''ring'' back and the bit clicks lose, and is easily pulled out. The new bit pushes in easily, and is locked securely! Super easy!
I like this bit holder from DeWalt. It's thin, you can get into hard-to-reach places. But over time, due to impact loads, the black button for releasing the bit falls off, and that's bad. So the Milwaukee bit holder is for every day, and the DeWalt is for tight spaces.
That’s a good point. Yeah I think that’s where the DeWalt can fail. I’ve heard some people who have had no problems and others who have gone through a few. Always good to have a backup. Thanks for posting! 👍
@projectpinehills Yeah, you, Morgan’s Maintenance, and Project Farm are the only channels I trust for unbiased tool reviews. Almost all the tools I’ve bought the past 6 months have been recommended by you guys. 👍
I've got several different types of DeWalt bit holders. .they've all been really good..I have several brands but the DeWalt are what I look for the last few years..they're just good and trouble free for me The 3" bits are the jam though. .totally take the bit holder out of the equation
I've been using the Dewalt for over 3 years, personally i think is the best, also, I have no complaints about its quality, I use them constantly and they last for a long time. FYI, it is sold at Lowe's but not at homedepot, and the price is about the same than most bit extension
From my experience the dewalt is my favorite because it’s slimmer and locking at the same time. The milwaukees locking ring ones are ok, definitely better than the cheap ones but my issue with them is the Milwaukee’s tend to almost lock he bit in the ring and you have to get your pliers to pull it back out
Are these new? As of today here in Hawaii, I was at Home Depot and didn’t see these locking Dewalt ones. My current one (non-locking) is a 6” Makita and some other really large unknown brand to it way too bulky. This Dewalt looks perfect and doesn’t appear to be much thicker than my Makita holder. My favorite locking mechanism is the Wera Rapidaptor family, but they are also a bit bulky. Most of my drivers are Dewalt and I find the built in 1/4” hex collet to be one of the best.
They have been out for at least a year. It doesn’t look like Home Depot carries them. I have links to them in the video description. Thanks for posting! 👍
Dewalt has the same locking bit holder as the Milwaukee one you showed, dewalt has both types of holders and both are good for different applications and the Milwaukee is just as good as the same one from dewalt
Defently one of the better ones. Wiha makes a even slimmer one (slimfix) but lacks the longer lengths. It always leaving us wanting something slimmer. These dewalts have a tendency to fail around the collar from time to time. There available locally and cheapish to replace at least.
Those are great holders but they need a 4 inch or 4 1/2 because I’m always driving stuff in Electrical metal boxes are that small one doesn’t always do the trick.
FYI, Ryobi sells a set that comprises of a 6 in. and 12 in. Magnetic Impact Bit Extensions for $8.87 (Home Depot). The magnet is strong enough to keep the bit in place, but not hard to yank out. Good buy.
I just think you found a bad use case to justify how one is better than the other while its obviously not advertised to deal with that particular use case. I have those self pulling spade bits from Bosch and in set you get an extension with two grub screws to secure it. I believe Bosch made that extension to have grub screws intentionally. Imagine how much a spade bit in a long bit extension would wobble, especially if extension is in impact driver rather than in drill. Anyways, I don't say Milwaukee is better than DeWalt. Im just sayin the comparison method is wrong. As a side comment, I see some people liking DeWalt cuz its slimmer, I personally like Milwaukee one as its NOT slim and I can grab that unlocking bit with gloves for example.
If drilling a hole, I'd use a drill and not an impact. The impact was just handy for illustration. That was just one observation, the smaller bit holder helps when putting in pocket screws or any screw at an angle. The Milwaukee does lend itself well to one handed operation. They are both great bit holders. Thanks for posting!
I feel like it’s an odd comparison when dewalt makes a locking magnet too. I have both mil and dewalt lock hokders and both work just about the same, prefer dewalts, milwaukee is a bit more annoying on the release.
I’m not sure what you’re saying. DeWalt does make a locking bit holder that is just like the Milwaukee. I’m saying that I like the DeWalt slim bit holder design.
I didn’t finish watching the video yet, but you keep saying locking bit holder (1:19) and (1:42) when you show the 3” Milwaukee (non-locking) bit holder. Looks like it is only magnetic.
@@projectpinehillsok wasn’t sure if I was missing something because I didn’t see a locking mechanism on that one. I have seen the more robust Milwaukee version that you later showed that has the locking mechanism, but as you mentioned, it is much larger in diameter.
Right. I try to catch everything in editing. It would be nice if YT allowed editing after publishing. I need you to review these videos before I publish them :) Thanks for posting!
@@projectpinehills don't know but I had this from eBay,I had all impact bits set with this holder and there was one more cool feature on it, it was like sleeve on holder to slide in and out to prevent slipping bits out of annoying screws like flat head screw
@@projectpinehills no the long bit not the bit holder them long bits are horrible DeWalts sucks too they break very easy but that DeWalt bit holder is what I use now and havnt looked back best one made
Milwaukee hand tools and accessories are absolute garbage. It's like there Shockwave bits. Trashhhh. The best hand tools or accessories that they makes is a inkzall marker😂

Nice, cause I recently got the same multipack dewalt
@YELLTELL good deal, thanks for watching!
Plus you need vise grips to get the damn bit out
You had this exact same milwalkee one? What was bad about it?
Great information. I have accumulated bit holders from Milwaukee, Dewalt, Bosch, Makita and a few others. They all have strengths and weaknesses. It is always good to watch your reviews.
Yeah there are way too many options for bit holders. Thank You and thanks for watching! 👍

I was alwaylooking for a better locking bit holder that wasn’t so bulky and the Dewalt has been my favorite so far.

Love them never had a problem or a bit coming out long one for hard to reach places and short one for more control there great
Thanks for posting, good deal.
I always carry a Milwaukee and Diablo locking extension, but prefer to use socket bits with a 1/4 inch adapter for ease of switching

I mentioned the Wiha. Bummer they don’t have longer lengths.
I love the 6' DeWalt, its a workhorse. I'd like the other two lengths someday.
Thanks for the feedback. I like that size bit extension in general. Often needed for access. Thanks for watching! 👍
I have that 6 inch Dewalt. Used for a couple years now, it's the best one I've had.
@mikeredhead2894 thanks for posting that’s good to hear.
question.. which bit holders could you also hammer on the far end of the shank.. with out breaking any magnets
That’s a great question 😁
Irwin makes a good locking bit extension too.
Yes they do and I have the 12” Irwin. It’s a little larger than the Milwaukee. I meant to include that. 👍
