7:26 100% on the money man. It was a lose lose situation. Either released the GH6 when they did, and get people complaining that it’s the last camera they released that didn’t have phase, detect auto focus, or push it back another two or three years on a camera that people already said, came out too late and have no one care at that point.
Yeahhhh it was for sure. I remember watching some people’s Tokyo videos and they said that Lumix was working on Phase Detect for a long while before putting into their cameras. But yeah it wasn’t ideal timing
If they have waited, people would have lost fate in m43 and think Panasonic is not investing in m43. Besides this they need as fast to get revenue for the investment they made in new dual gain 25Mpx image sensor and new image processors.
I got a gh6 on a whim to go with my s1h and bs1h. Mainly used it for social media content. Then I started noticing the footage tended to have a lot of color noise so I kept it mainly has my open gate social media cam. Loved it for that. I got a g9ii and well I’m tempted to sell my gh6 and get a second g9ii but when I do 2 cam social media stuff using the b cam is on sticks and in manual focus which AF is the only reason so far why I grab the g9ii over the gh6 right now. Idk 🤷🏻♂️ I’m thinking of just keeping the gh6. If I was more into photography I’d definitely get a second g9ii but since I’m 95% video for now the gh6 & g9ii do what I need for smaller projects and social media stuff. They both keep up with my s1h & eva1 so I think if budget is a concern get the gh6. If AF is a must, then g9ii. But they are pretty much the same cam besides AF in my opinion.
In Gh5ii I custom the front button -record the video ‘ it’s not a privilege in gh6)’ also too high iso In vlog profile’ but definitely good camera for a money. Waiting for gh7
True but that is two buttons I like to use specifically for stabilization. And the button being on the left side of the camera still is more convenient than the right. And I think I cut it out from this video but yeah you can customize any button but that is another button you don’t have to customize if it has a front record button ya know :)
GH7 could be a killer camera , Panasonic has been sharing \licensing its tech with the L mount alliance partners like Leica and Blackmagic and its high time we see the benefits materialize in Lumix own cameras in a proper way. having BRAW internally or optionally straight into SSD is sooo needed ... . if it takes a toll on the battery life i'll power it off external battery .. no issue. and no HDMI lag for monitoring or streaming please.. plus proper streaming support via USB (UVC) along all their other innovations in IP streaming for when its needed(multicam setups) for single camera a UVC connection is all that is needed . no need to mention their newer autofocus like on the g9ii which is very good. they already have the best stab.. I like to see improvements in low light (higher ISO) but really if we get all of the above I think many people will be more then satisfied including myself. and for the icing on the cake .. Internal ND !!
I have the GH6, G9, and newest G9ii, I have the EF M1, the EF M2 II, and the Metabone speedbooster xl x64, and with all lenses that i tried, 18-35 from sigma, tamrons g2 24-70 2.8, canon 24-105... I can see that so as today, with the latests frimware both on camera and metabone and viltrox adapters, these are the conclusions: Viltrox M1 with G9ii (there is no lens no speedbooster, is just the adapter. Autofocus does not work when filming, niether the af button to change automatically focus, only manual. But when taking pictures, or not filming, autofocus works and the button for ae lock and shutter button works, both in film mode dial and picture. It is strange, sometimes filming in autof to the sky and then returning leds you focus just once...This might be a bug because in MF the button for focusing niether screenAF does not work. GH6 works better, button always responsive and quick, but auto focus works but really bad, stays happily out of focus and suddenly maybe it focus or tries to change but doesnt work. I use to focus with af-on/aelock button with my thumb and then manually focus when needed, so in this case gh6 works better. Viltrox M2 II with G9ii (x 0.71) This one is also strange: Autofocus does work sometimes but veeery slowly, slowly annoying, both in afs and mf if you want to focus rightaway it will not, you will have to wait until (smooth slow) focus arrives if it does..., and it might be like 4-5 seconds its tedius or never happen. Face auto focus or animal in video is also sometimes ok, but i dont know on what depends, the guy that made the youtube video testing hag a metabone 0.71 but did not always work, and the more light you have also, but will not relay at all, gh6 does also work kinda but also will not relay on its autofocus (because gh6 as rest of lumix mft cameras it will ghost or loose focus or focus backrground, jump, etc.) In the g9ii Pointing to the sky and back makes it easier...but again i will not use this for video at all. Video is impossible for me cause I need at least a button to autofocus and then manual focus...Tried different lenses or even different firmware and only 4.0 from viltrox kindaworks, lower firmware will not autofocus at all on video niether pushing focusing button (also happens in M1). For taking pictures autofocus does work good, just like the m1. And for the gh6 it does work better also: if you touch to focus or focus whith the button in afs or mf it will work perfectly (not smooth but snappy and accurate) for me is a win. Also in pictures works as good for both. Metabone xl x0.64, with g9ii this one works very simillar to the rest of m43 lumix cameras (i tried on gh5, g7, g85, g9, g100, gx9) autofocus does not work, focus will not follow you when filming, only buttons and touch to focus work, and the gh6 aswell. When not filming camera automatically catches focus with what it has in front but when filming it just locks the latest catched focus and from there you will need to push button to refocus new subject and also manual focus. For me is the most reliable and consistent, and I guess that the x0.71 metabone will also be like this, at least if you have the g9ii. If you have the gh6 or g9mk1 or other ones you could choose whatever combination you like. Conclusion: G9ii was kind of lame with adapters (for now i hope), cause if youre run and gunning for video trying to relay on autofocus i will only recomend metabone, but looks like gh6 is better in the rest areas. I will only recomend g9ii if you only have lumix lenses or maybe olympus (i only own 3 lumix mft lenses) or if you have metabone (not viltrox for the moment). It might have something to do with the phase autofocus... For me at least as i 95% of the time use adapted ef lenses, i would recomend gh6.
I'd love a G9 II but it's just too expensive. I can get a GH6 for £800. Autofocus won't be worse than my G100 surely. All I'm hearing in my head is I should just sell up and go to Sony instead for something that works in my price range.
No, no. Overall sharpeness is the same between the G9II and GH6, I used them a lot to make comparisons, I pixel peep a lot to zoom and pan and they are exactly the same in 4K, but in 5.7K the GH6 details are less rough than the G9II, image is almost as good as the 4k of the S1 and S5. However, only a few people speak about it but the GH6 has a serious AF-C accuracy issue in video. You can see it on my AF test. When using frame rates below 48fps, the focus is most of the time totally innacurate in 4K,C4K and 5,7K, making the footage really soft even with static subjects. You can see when cropping to 1:1 the focus is not accurate at all. The weird thing is before pressing the recording button the focus is accurate (you can see it while using fn button to zoom inside the image), but as soon as you press the record button the focus is lost. This is why I never use AF-C with 24,25 or 30fps on the GH6, I simply use manual focus or AF-S while recording. Neither my GH5 or my G9 performs this bad, they maybe are slightly slower but they are absolutely not out of focus like this. The only lens I have which works without issue at these frame rate is the 25mm f1.4II. Every other lenses I own like the 12-60mm, 10-25mm, 25-50mm, 45-175mm, 100-400mm, 25/45 Oly f1.2 etc have the issue. However, when using fast frame rates like 48, 60,120fps or when using Open Gate 5,8K, the focus is OK most of the time. About the colors, I think it's a matter of taste, I love the skin tones and colors of the GH6.This is the main reason why I still keep this camera.
Great video man. Panasonic continues to make baffling decisions. Fuji can't make X100VIs fast enough, yet this type of camera is what made M4//3's so popular in the first place. Where in the world is the GX10 or GX95? When your customers beg for a feature for 5 years (PDAF), and you ignore them, the GH6 with a streaking sensor is what you get. The only change Panasonic needs to make is to give the GH7 the sensor from G9ii and you have a winner, simple.
Thanks for the video, Matthew. I am glad you brought up the striping issue, as that is one thing I am pretty concerned about. I know you shoot a lot / mostly video, but have you tried af-c when shooting stills? I have the original S5 (and an S1) and the Panasonic 24-105 f/4 lens, and I get a LOT of backfocused issues, where the camera just decided to focus on trees or plants in the background instead of on the people in the foreground. It drives me crazy. Anyway, thanks again.
How about dyn boost which is almost useless because it has rough iq and too much noise. Also cooling fan is very important difference vs g92. I think if i change my gh6 to g92 it might overheat because i shoot almost always 5.7k 60p.
Depends how long you shoot in it. I’ve shot for almost 4-5 hours straight with the camera on the entire time (powered by vmount) in direct sunlight around 70F degrees with no over heating. Recording on and off through the entire time recording about 200gbs in 4K 60fps
Ok thanks. I know g92 records 4k without overheating. I Wonder if there is much difference between 5.7k 60p vs 4k 60p because 4k 60p is oversampled from 5.7k. Maybe 4k 120p is more difficult.
Based on Emily for Micro four Nerds. She tested it and I believe got 20-30ish minutes at 4k 120fps before over heating. Again depends how long your record and your environment. If you are inside or not recording for long periods of time you will be fine.
Hello my best compliments for the video , the GH6 is a very interesting camera , I was undecided whether to buy this one , or S5IIX , the job i would do would mainly be short films, I thank you in advance if you can answer and congratulations new to the video.

Nikon of course, but for certain they might be better off trying to launch RED CODE RAW as a universal RAW codec to capaitalise of the remaining patent.

My answer yes if you want to learn the basic of videography. No need to watch your video.
lol okay I mentioned a lot more about who specifically might want to spend their money more wisely too😬
if you want to learn the basics of videography you can use an iPhone 3GS because better moves have been made with far less technology.
You can learn with BMPCC4K it is cheaper
