    It is important to watch the spark plug tube seals when installing the valve cover. If you cannot see the top of the spark plug tube all the way around then the seal is out of place. Gently lift the cover, recenter and wiggle the cover as you press down and the seal will go over the tube properly. I had two out of place and both tubes filled with oil.....thank you Sir for the video!

    I had trouble getting new valve cover bolt gaskets/seals on the bolts (tore through 2 of them). I ended up boiling water in a mug, then dropping the seals in the hot water for a little bit of time to make them more pliable. Then I applied a little dish soap on the center. I put the bolt head in a vice so that the thread end was up and applied pressure to the gasket/seal, mostly to one side of the gasket/seal, to force it on at an angle and it was successful. - just offering another method if you can't get them on as easily as shown in the video.

    I put mine recently and it doesn't leak from the front but its leaking bad from the back and I cant see if its because I torqued it wrong or the gasket is not in place, do you suggest i take it off and try again?

    I replaced the gasket, torqued the bolts, put RTV on the round corners but it still leaks, small amounts but coats the engine, new gasket, do you recommend RTV around the entire area since it still leaks?

  • @kneebarx

    hardest part was trying to remove the spark plug seals. if they are dry rotted the easiest way to remove it is to use a screwdriver to lightly CHISEL it out. BUT NOT from the bottom backside you have to do it from the TOP side looking down

    Is the silicone a priority or can I fix the gasket without with silicone? I don’t want to have the fix another oil leak if that the problem

    The first two acorn nuts on this cover snapped right off as I was unscrewing it. I was trying to go slow on the second one too. This looked so simple to do. Now the nuts flew who knows where. Will this be a problem in the long run?

    • @HowtoAutomotive

      rashed alzahrani it’s only use in the corner to fill in the gap‘s that the gasket will not cover.

    Excellent video but not as easy as it appears in this video. I had trouble with a couple of things. First, were the washers on the bolts that hold down the valve cover. You're supposed to be able to pry out the rubber washer and take a side cutter nippers and clip off the the washer and then the washer will slide right off. NO WAY! I had to use tin snips and two pair of pliers to pry the washer off of the bolts.
    My second problem was with the spark plug seal gaskets. Mine where Hard Rock. They did not want to come out. Actually, I was a little worried because when I tried the method of using a screwdriver that you jam down in there and then pry it up, and it looked like I had bent some metal. Chalk it up to a novice. There is no ridge of metal that the gasket seals sit in. So keep that in mind and don't freak out like I did.
    Plan at least 4 hours for the job. Hopefully, you will not have the problems that I had and you can do it in far less time.
    Other than that this was an excellent video. Even better than 1A Auto's video on this job.

    I went to take my tube seals out and they are completely rotted. It just broke into a few pieces. There is still rubber in the top rim in the grove and the entire circle in the middle along the walls. Any suggestions on how to remove? Tried using flathead and hammer even a box cutter blade to remove from the grove at least and nothing.

    • @donaldhedrick2889
      @donaldhedrick2889 3 года назад

      Mine were the same way. I tried cutting, tearing, scrapping but in the end
      I did exactly what he said and used a small flat head screw driver tapped it down with a hammer and pried them right out.

    DO NOT put the wiring harness on before you install and tighten the valve cover bolts. You don't want anything that can pull the cover out of position before the bolts are tightened.
