this was both SUPER helpful re: how to save money on all these equipment but also really informative for the beginner photographer (like myself) on how these things even work, and the techniques for using them. thank you so much! really appreciate the help! :) ❤
Oh wow, this tutorial is really great! I want to try my hand at product photography, and my natural impulse is to go online and buy a bunch of lighting equipment that I'm not even sure how to work with. That would cost me a lot, and who knows if I'd end up using half of it. Now I've learned how to DIY the basics, so in the very least I'll learn more about my preferences, and if later I decide to buy, it will be an informed purchase. I also LOVED your very visual explanation about how to use everything. THANK YOU!!!! (My ex-husband was a very technical, pro photographer, with tons of expensive equipment and sharp knowledge. But I learnt very little with him, as it all sounded very daunting. Your manner of teaching, on the other hand, is very approachable to beginners.)
I'm starting to downsize & eBay things. I want to take great pictures to attract buyers. This tutorial is SO helpful for keeping my costs low & avoiding buying more "stuff". Thank you!! 🤗
I loved this video. So much info… I’m a newbie and love to take pics my kids.. in addition to that, I’m in a mission to take beautiful photos of my macarons because their just so gorgeous! I’ve always love photography just don’t have time to practice a lot between work and kids. Thank you for the info!
Dear Gemini Connect. Just when I thought I had used up all my lighting ideas, you came along with such brilliant suggestions, I cannot thank you enough. You are bookmarked, and subscribed. I struggle with jewelry photography, I would love to see a video on that. I will be back.
I'm an onlineshop owner. It's kinda tricky to take good photos for my products and this tutorial for easy and super cheap DIY was very advantageous. Thank you
So awesome! I had the right clips, Harbor Freight and inexpensive, and made everything you talked about in 15 minutes. It all works and I just got 'upgraded' in my "studio". Thank You. I see what you mean about the reflection on a wine bottle, difficult.
Thank you for this informative video. For someone looking to enhance product photography, I didn’t want to spend a lot for a soft box light. I’m going to to try your diy tips.
Thank you so much for this amazing video. So much great info and trick. Thank you! A beautiful woman always a plus 😊 I was glued to every word. Thanks for the info it helped me big time! I can get some diy stuff going and clients in.
Graphic Design student here and this video is so helpful!! I really enjoyed how you explained different terms as well as describing a variety of backgrounds. I have a couple projects coming up, but the tone of you voice literally relieves anxiety!!! Will sub and come back for more✌🏼😌
I like the idea of using LED light as source of fill light, since I''ve tried using strobe only, honestly I never seen the diffuser which is attached to the LED light, the square one.I thinks it's gorgeous. And I can see the differ effect to the result.Once again thanks for this useful tutorial, such as short&vividly clear. Thanks
this was so great, thank you. i was looking for more tips about beauty lighting stuff, for youtube and instagram... but I watched the whole thing because you were just so concise and informational and made everything so simple. Now I know how to make a snoot! And I've never heard of a snoot!
omg I love this video tutorial. I use all modifiers you highlighted and more !!! I'm semi pro.been shooting for 11years. But i took away a load of information . I am building a DIY Led strip panel . and that is how i happened on your site. I know now how i can quickly build an encasement for my dimmable strips. and I know if i need to put something together in a pinch your tutorial will solve those issues. ."your personality is brighter than the lights"..I thank you so much very informative.
Hi! I didn’t see the LED light panel in the product link, just the soft box. Could you share where you got that or some affordable options for LED light panels with the dimmer/warm/cool controls? Thank you so much for sharing these! :)
Expensive = Westcott. Cheap = 99-Cent Store foam board. Professional should be how it performs, not what the manufacturer claims. Your mods are more 'professional' than Westcott's Rapid (anything) Great presentation (belated) Thank you!
Nice and informative tutorial, I would like to know which dslr camera would you recommend for beginner stroke student to the game. who is looking to mostly use a camera for product photography stroke still life (with the end images needing to be blown up reasonably large)?? thanks in advance.
Great video! I loved your explanations and examples. I would love to learn more about working with silver or jewelry in general. Do you happen to have any good tips? Thanks!
Thank you! Jewelry can be tough because it is shiny, can have reflections, and often needs a prop to stand it up (think a necklace or ring). Consider getting jewelry props/holders, and making sure the light is ultra soft and diffused to avoid reflections.
Depends on what you're shooting and the effects and light quality that you expect. But the same tips from the video apply. Use the flashlight or headlamp as your key light and modify it using a DIY softbox or reflector for less harsh light.
@@Gemini_Connect ooh thanks as I was curious as I wanna trying taking a pic of a doll with a creepy aesthetic so I was wondering what type of light I would have used and where exactly I would use it on as I want the black background to be only dimly lit and not super bright
@@Kristian179 I would enclose the subject in black -- black background, under it, and on the sides. Use a super soft light ( ie a flashlight or headlamp with a diffuser or softbox. Play with the distance between the light and the subject, the flashlight with the diffuser, wtc.
LED lights are not popular with product photographers - they often have gaps in their colour spectrum. Apart from the output the problem with speedlights over strobes is the lack of modeling lamp.
Hi! Thank you so much for this video. I tried making 2 Diy softbox with the parchment paper. But the picture isn't as nice as I want it to be. What could I be doing wrong? Please help. I used 2 rechargeable lamps not flash light
Not sure without seeing the results. Could be weak lights, lights not close or far enough from subject, not enough parchment paper, camera settings not right...a lot of variables.
Thanks for the tutorial. Do you prefer an AI tool to automate the product image editing process? I found Autoretouch very useful. Need your opinion regarding this.
Wao. This video was so brightening! Thanks for all the information!
Glad you enjoyed it Wendy ❤️

Anything Sony (ie the a6000 line, or A7 series if you can afford it). Sony has the biggest lens selection out of all the mirrorless cameras.
Great video ❤️
thank you very much you are the best
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it.
Please make a flatlay lighting setup tutorial too please. This was so helpful. Subscribed.
Good idea!

Very good tips! I'm gonna use these hacks for sure! Been planning to get into product photography for a long time ':D.
Nice, hope they work out for you!
Well done. Where can I get a snoot?
Amazon!
Hi! Great video! I just wanted to know the soft box you use (the rectangular one) how many lightbulbs does it have? How many watts?
Thank you! This is a great help. May i know if this is also possible for 2D Painting? thank you. :D

I was thinking just to buy powerful soft LED bulb and build myself
do you have any tips on diy ing very cheap light sources, like maybe a headlight or a flashlight or something?

may I ask? What brand of flash do you use? whether it's MANUAL or TTL flash?
I use Canon speedlight, usually manual mode, but sometimes in TTL.
