FOR EVERYONE ASKING WHAT THE HECK MATERIAL THAT WHITE BACKDROP IS, SEARCH FOR A "WHITE PERSPEX SHEET" OR "WHITE ACRYLIC SHEET".
They actually come in many colours and many building material supply stores will sell them. I'm sorry I didnt clarify it enough in the video. Thanks everyone for your wonderful feedback. Makes me feel good that I can help a lot of people 👍🏻 more videos coming.
I purchased a product at Menard's called Polywall Utility Panel. Easy to cut and worked out great!
@@fletchflips1017 Great
The lamp you put next to the product, does that emulate natural light as if it were shining through a window? I don't have alot of windows in my house so no natural light to take pictures with.
@@knowledgegizmo7934 A white florescent or LED light most closely approximates the colour of natural light, yes. But then you need to "modify" it by softening it so you can get different styles on the subject you are photographing
Thanks for adding that detail and for the great video! Can you make a video on how to take photos from a birds eye view?
The difference between you and most of the photographers on the planet, is that you know how to teach. Very well done.
Thanks mate!
Yes, superb teaching style!
Agreed. Good job. Thanks
Agree with you wipeoutking!
Agree!
no music no bullshit no funny acting just straight to the point just the way i like on youtube!!! subscribed right away!
Wow, thank you!!!
Same here :) Won me immediately!
Same here! So simple & effective. Very nicely put together Luke! Loved it.
Absolutely. Absolutely loving this!
Same here, no overacting and he was looking like Thor's loki
I subscribed because this is straightforward, no annoying transition, no annoying music, spot-on humor, and very clean from start to finish. Great job!
Wonderful. Great to hear. Thanks
That is literally the best tutorial about photography I've seen on youtube. I'm an amateur and you have made the basics crystal clear, thank you so much!
Brilliant to hear! You're welcome
@@LukeAyers I 100% agree! Thank you on behalf of my fellow poor college students dabbling in photography

Ohh, look at that: Jan Plexy is REALLY BORING, isn't He?
Jan obviously has a lot of time on his hands
Jan Plexy ........are sure you are looking?
This is how teaching should be. Simple, to the point, give visual examples to prove you actually know what you're doing, and a positive! Subscribed.
Awesome! Thanks very much!
You're correct, ma'am. No BS... CONCISE and THOROUGH WITH NO PRETENSE. Love it.
Hacking in general seems like a mole for plutosecurity1on iG to clear.. He is just so good at the whole stuff
Absolutely love how direct with a good dose of sarcasm you exhibit in this video, so refreshing, it feels like a friend being patronizing taking you through the basics like you didn't pay attention the first time, but they technically ARE giving you the time of day.
One of the extremely rare, no BS photography tutorials out there. You really have a knack for teaching and know what you're talking about. Thanks and Wish you the very best, Luke!
Thank you
When he said dirt cheap - I knew I was watching the right video
Haha 😁👍
Right ! 😂
So true
I know right... There's so many different definitions of 'cheap', like when they say they are gonna show you some very cheap gear you can use, then they go 'this is only 300 bucks'. I suppose it is all relative.
🤣🤣🤣
I love your personality. Its very "calm the f%&k down susan, its not that complicated" I'm totally here for it 😂
Haha, thank you
@@LukeAyers
Hell yeah. Love the attitude
@@Mrkevi123 Thanks bro!
Wikked Media lol yes!
Lmao
Did you ever know that you’re my heroooOooOoo?
No for real, this is so bloody helpful. I bought a $20 light tent online but this is actually showing me how to use it and how the lighting should work. You’re a champ. My jewellery says thanks, you made them look cute
Awesome, I'm glad 😊😊
I've seen a lot of photographers but none that teaches how to do it dirt cheap and easy. You have a massive talent for teaching. A highly unique technique of silently analysing the different possibilities and teaching them to the viewers. Bravo! I don't leave comments on RUclips videos. But this one definitely stood out!❤️
thank you
1:03 reason for curve background

I just put over $120 worth of lighting equipment into my cart and thought "Let's give it one more try for a good video on how to do this cheaply." and here you are! Thank you so much for saving me this money! I really appreciate this video!
Brilliant! I'm glad it helped!
He saved me money too. lol
I bought a whole studio set-up and still couldn't get the pictures that I get with my phone, a white background and light from the window.

Absolutely 💯!!!!
Absolutely amazing video. With perfect amount of satire! Love it!
Awesome. Thanks
The best photography tutorial i have ever watched! Simple, short and to the point! Thank you Luke!
Awesome mate. You're welcome

Luke,
This is one of the BEST tutorials I've seen. Simple, to the point without the blah,blah,blah...
Thank you so much for this. I'm a semi -pro photographer but, I'm always looking for simple, cool hacks lie this one.
I'm subscribing.
That's great to hear. Thanks.
Thanks Luke...very informative and simplistic....LIKE!
amthunder1 So you didn't want to hear about where the shoe came from and what kind of material etc etc etc. blah blah blah lol
Totally agree, so simple and basic. Someone wants to hire me to photograph her products, and I have never done it before. Some of these videos are complicated and overwhelming. You did an amazing job of bringing it down to my level. :-)
Hi great vids. I was looking for more in your other videos but you only have this tip video.
Finally someone who can just clearly explain lighting- THANK YOU! So tired of people who talk and talk and talk and get to the point of anything. This is the kind of video that you can learn something from. Thank you.
Thank you, mate! Much more coming!
Professional studios would hate him, a secret revealed!
I agree with you. I was saying this to my self hahaha
Nah. We are busy shooting shoes, clothes and everything else. We get a lot of clients who say they tried to do it themselves but realize it's much harder then they think. I.e color shifts, composition and putting it on a pure white background.
@@NicBarella Is it just me? I don't like standard white backgrounds, they don't add anything to the photo, they add no emotion or environment. They look cheap in my eyes as well.
@@realityandnaturepill it depends on the type of mood you are going for.
You have completely demystified the basics of lighting and corrected several problems I've been having. Spectacular!
Thats awesome mate. I'm glad to hear
"You're basically writing with light"
love it
Thank you 😊
I watched this to the end, nine absorbing minutes of how a single light can lift a product. Great teacher.
I studied photography in college and this is the best instruction on lighting I've ever had.
Awesome, man!
I don't normally subscribe at just watching a video for 3 minutes, but sir, you just earned my respect!
Thanks mate!
No clickbait here, much appreciate your easygoing professionalism, well done, very well done!
Thanks a lot, buddy!
WOW!! From someone that really is starting out in product photography and lacks even the basics, this was very refreshing :) I appreciate your knowledge and straight to the point attitude. Through out the video when you would "blah blah blah, you don't need to know that" I love it because that is exactly what the other videos would sound like to me after a few minutes. After watching your video I feel confident i'll be taking some pretty good photos. Thank you!!
Brilliant! Glad to hear. Thanks and you're very welcome
I need him to teach me everything in life the way he teaches in this tutorial.

I could not figure out what "Baking Paper" was. Finally found it.
"Parchment paper, Baking Paper, or bakery release paper are cellulose-based papers that have been treated or coated to make them non-stick. They are used in baking as a disposable non-stick surface. They should not be confused with wax paper or waxed paper, which is paper that has been impregnated with wax."Wikipedia.
Thank you for the simple, informative and effective tutorial! ~God Bless~ Colorado, USA
Yep, When I moved to the USA 10 years ago I had to google or ask people everything from British to American sayings.
I am a pro photographer, Finally a video that does NOT waste his audience talking 50 minutes about camera settings! Bravo good tutorial for product photographer beginner, with simple setup (as it always should be).
Very well done! Me being a beginner photographer, I've learn a lot from this video. The 743 thumbs downs are HATERS! This man is a great teacher!
Thank you very much 😁
This instruction was just what I needed. No expensive equipment and to the point. Thank you for your efforts.
Brilliant! Thank you
I don’t know how you popped up but this is exactly what I needed today! I am starting to sell stuff and always struggle with shadows. I have seen people make light boxes but this seems so much easier! Thank you! Perfect timing! Now to check out your other videos.
Awesome Sheri! Glad it helped!
I would show up for his class everyday.
yeah. Very handsome and that voice.....
Wow I usually don’t leave comments but this was so helpful and straight to the point and easy to understand. Subscribed!
Seriously, dido! This is my very first comment left on a RUclips video. Lol Thank you so much!
Thank you Jess!
Thank you for this video. You have a very unique, largely humorous, engaging way of teaching some professional tips and tricks for at home product photos as per the title of the video. Exactly what I needed before doing my very first at home product shoot. Thanks again!
Fantastic to hear, Chris. Thanks mate
You know after watching this I think I just might be able to do this.
Awesome to hear!
Again, I learned a lot. You're a natural at these tutorials. Have you thought about a tutorial on indoor/outdoor/mood setting etc. for video lighting?
Are you everywhere on RUclips? Been following you for ages and bought your little miss Sally plans! How good is this tutorial too.
Omg I love this very simple video to explain how to 'create a light box' .. dirt cheap ! I love this man ! No gimmicks, no awful music, just simple to follow instructions ( which are very motivating ! ). I had just added $$$'s of equipment to my cart to buy several light boxes..no more need for this ! I've got all the equipment right here at home.
Awwwwwesome
Hey Luke, I see you made this video over 4 yrs ago and don't know if you still are looking at your comments...but here I go. You gave us two options (1) diy and (2) hire you... I like the second option. All kidding aside, your simple, no fluff instructions were the best I have ever seen on youtube. Thank you so much...Now, I"m off to look for what I need to duplicate your Easy, cheap and good looking what ever it is called. I don't even have to leave the house. Again, did I say thank you?? Hugs.
That's awesome Carole. If you're interested you can check out my photography course thephotographycourse.thinkific.com/
Very well taught, no shouting or screaming or showing off, thanks for this calm tutorial
That was one of the best explanations and demonstrations that I have ever seen. you kept it so simple and inexpensive. Thank you.
Totally the best 😍
Thank you very much!
This was super fun simply explained and informative! Really appreciated the simplicity and how you show the results and differences :) Makes it so easy to follow along!
Awesome to hear. Thanks
I love how simple you made it to be, get the ideas across. It definately opened up lots of possibilities!
I spent $1450 on a graduate level documentary class to learn what you just taught in 9 minutes for FREE. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and accent.
Terrific video. I love how you demonstrated that items you likely have around the house can be pressed into service to get the shot without sacrificing quality.
Thanks buddy!
This is the most excited I will ever be about product photography
Didn't ask anybody to subscribe, or press the likes button. Just straight to the point. Very good
Exactly, thanks man
Can u also do a skin care routine .. ur skin is glowing man 😂😂😂😂 im jealous. ..
Hahaha, why thank you
Or is it the lighting? bwahhhh
P. H Both. Luke has amazing skin in face and arms. And obviously he knows his job.
He’s keeping it a secret 😏
It's more likely his lifestyle and diet, rather than what chemicals he uses on his skin
That's really awesome. A person who has absolutely no clue about photography and lighting can even take product photography after watching this video. God bless you.
Thank you, man
What a great video. I couldn't stop smiling through the whole thing. So cute... And his info straight to the point. :) Thanks Luke!
You are welcome 😊😊
I literally was looking for some techniques on how to photograph shoes for my grandpa's shoe store. This couldn't have been more handy, thank you so much!
Once u mentioned “lighting” I knew I got the right teacher. Art is all about lighting thanks😉

Best video I've seen this year, and this is still January
This guy should be a professor. Thanks for explaining so well. You sure would have helped so many people take great pictures of their products which in turn could have helped them start/increase their sales. Much appreciated.
Haha thank you
you are like the teacher I've never had. so calm and straight to the point. Look at that!

I started a food page on IG And I'm here to sharpen my photos quality and general "cleaness " I've never been so satisfied with how informative a video is. Thank you sir.
Wonderful. You're welcome
Its really helpful. Thank you. I was looking everywhere to know basics about product photography and then I found this video . Simply Awesome.
This is THE most useful product photography video I have seen yet! Well done, thanks so much! I stapled the parchment paper between two frames of poster board so I can hold it easily at any height and angle.

Very informative, easy to understand and apply with things I already have. Really appreciate the light demo. Thank you.
Loved the idea for the softbox with the shoe box, gonna try this tomorrow!
Well done! I've been taking photos for a product and have had a time of it because my background looked different on every one of the 10 product colors--ready to call it a day but I saw this! Thanks Luke!!
Great! You're welcome
You’re amazing! Simply the best tutorial video in RUclips❤Thanks so much! I just subscribed!
Thanks, I used your tips and got awesome photos! I used 2x $10 flexible arm desk lamps with cool white LED bulbs, found a clean cardboard box in a dumpster and cut out 2 frames with baking paper, bought a white poster board, and shot on an old iPhone SE with a paid camera app that has full manual controls.
You smart woman. Well done
omg well explained DIY and I love the way he stays so chill through the whole video
😁😉👍🏻
What a tremendously simple approach to something so utterly technical and seemingly difficult. Than you for sharing and teaching.
My pleasure! Glad you got something out of it x
Luke, I take photos of hydraulic components for my company's on-line catalog. I position them all over the place to try to get good light, and then I still have to Photoshop the crap out of them. Wish I'd found you a long time ago, I could have been taking much better photos, without over-editing them. You make it seem so simple - because you obviously understand what's necessary. Thanks so much for the good instruction!
That's great, mate! Thank you for telling me.
Best presentation I have ever seen on photography. Luke has been granted a gifted talent on how to instruct. Very well done!
Thanks mate!
