- In this video, I'll show you how to design a main board for the PS4 controller. I'll walk you through the process of measuring and finding the right size for the circuit board, and the techniques that I used.
This is part 1 of a series of multiple videos.
If you want to support me, you do your best by buying one of my PS4 USB-C circuit boards.
Here is a video on how to install it on a new PS4 controller. • PS4 USB-C. They wouldn...

Very excited to see where this goes! Love my USB--C already.
Thanks! Super cool! This is gonna be some cool stuff. USB-C was a tiny start :)
Do you have the diagram to a JDM-055 ps4 controller mother board, I need to know where ground and all the directions are located for the left stick and right stick. I am moving the right stick to the left of the controller and I am connecting the left stick to an arcade stick. It's for a game I speed run and hold a record in. Trying to build the right equipment but I am in experienced. taking it real slow, do you have any info that could help me better understand the board I am working with?@@MariusHeier1
THIS IS SICK MAN !!!!! WHAT THE COMMUNITY NEEDS IS MORE PARTS AVAILABLE FOR BROKEN CONTROLLERS...H3LL EVEN BOARDS FOR OLDER CONSOLES WOULD SAVE TONS OF CONTROLLERS FROM BEING TRASHED !!!!!
Yes it will. There are millions of controllers laying around that we shall resurrect!
I just ordered a usb c board for my controller about a week ago i cant wait to get it. Your so underrated for sure
Thanks for your kind words. Lets hope it arrives fast :)
Just got mine before the holidays. Build an extreme rate pro controller and had to have the upgrade port! So worth it!
@@GrapplerS10 same here i have the extreme rate back buttons and i love it just need a usb c and it’s complete
@@xavos5783 yeah I have the one that’s just the back buttons already. Might convert that one too. Decided I needed the full treatment with the new one. Full clicky kit and extended thumb sticks. Gonna finish off this weekend. Can’t wait!
Whoa, this is really cool! Can't wait to see the final result!
Same here. I been wanting to work on this for 6 months..now its time!
I would really like to have Hall effect gimbles on my ds4. I have no clue if it would be possible but since your making the main board I think it might be worth a shot.
Its gonna happend sooner or later :)
I second this idea! The steam deck have Hall effect “module boards”. Not knowledgeable enough but they seem to be drop in converts for resistance sensors. But be usable since they convert with ribbon cables. Just would need to work out mounting and such? Maybe?? Lol. I’m a backyard engineer. I guess everything works till I break it. 😂
@@GrapplerS10 Hey. I know about them. But they are pretty expensive. Ill make my own. ;)
@@MariusHeier1 the modules are like $25 on Amazon. Seemed reasonable to me to get the hall and processor board.
Maybe the all package(Hall sticks, main board, usb-c board) for like 60€/$/£ i would buy it for sure.
Update on this project coming soon? Very excited about this as a fps and platformer controller.
Cool, but the end product make it black like usb-c board looks amazing 👍
I wish the ps5 could connect to to the old ps4 controllers playing ps5 games. I like that controller more.
Agree. Will work on this in the future!
Some drop in micro switches would be nice 😅
I hope you crack the encryption of the wireless communication to the PS4 by dumping the main ARM based firmware and reverse engineer it. Another option would be an update to have Bluetooth 5 or even 802.11 Wireless for lower lag. Or remapping of buttons on the fly. As long as it still works with the original ps4 it's good.
I play on playstation my self so this needs to happen no matter who ends up doing it 😁🤔😉🙂
Is this board coming out? Also do you have custom clickly buttons for ps4 that;s for sale?
as a fighting game player I chew through ds4 controllers every 4 to 6 months so i mostly use units i fix myself. Seeing the possibilities this project has has me all excited for te ultimate competitive controller
One thing that i would find most uselful is to reduce the controllers wired input lag (gor some reason bluetooth has less input lag)
Im working on the worlds fastest controller. How do you use the triggers when you play? As of on buttons or more like an accelerator in a game?
@@MariusHeier1Definetly as buttons. Trigger travel is virtually useless on most fighting games.
One quick fix I do is drilling a little screw on the trigger plastic so it works as a trigger stopper. Cheap, effective and easily replaceable part. It won't give you regular button feedback though hahaha
I would absolutely _love_ if you could somehow re-add pressure sensitive face buttons. I feel that was the biggest loss from the DualShock 3. I mean, if it were possible.
Yeah those are pretty cool. You can do that with hall effect buttons now. Even in multiple direction. And twisting/rotating.
When is PS4 USB-C coming back in-stock? My Dualshock 4 Micro USB port is literally starting to break and I have to keep moving the charger for it to work. I don't want to order anymore Micro USB too so I don't want to buy a circuit board of Micro USB and I really need this. Please! I've been waiting for the item to go back in stock since July and it's still Sold-Out. I live in Canada.
please make a controller with hall effect anolog sticks. if you can you should also put back buttons as keyboard switches that can be programmed
Working on it. And recording it now. Do you mean actual keyboard switches. Or switches that will trigger keyboard presses on your computer?
@@MariusHeier1 actual keyboard switches. If they can be hot swapped too you have a multi million dollar controller. Also the response time. If it can be over clocked🔥
@@Kofi7 I'm making my own circuit board, so you select what switches you want to integrate. Its gonna be as fast as the hardware and software allows. Which probably gonna be a lot faster than the corporate ones.
You are awesome man! How is that project going?
Making the board today. :)
@@MariusHeier1 good job! Proud of you
Anyone know the name of that yellow, thin button at 1:07? I wanna fix my ds4 but idk what that button is called, thanks in advance!
Looks like a fun project. Is there any benefits over the original board?
It will probably depend on the user. But to me: The biggest benefit is it can run custom software. And it should be blazing fast (input lag), and can very easy have multiple extra buttons/inputs/outputs. And at some point it will have hall effect joysticks with no script
@@MariusHeier1 sign me up then :)
@@ADHDbuilt I think i should make some sort of wait-list. Would be usefull for me to see how interested people are in getting some of the stuff im making. Just a normal email sign up thing. Without any cost or prepayment
@@MariusHeier1 I've already purchased your charger. So you should have captured my email. Omnisend or similar will have a free option for the quantity of emails you'd be at so far.
@@ADHDbuilt Thanks for doing that! Thanks for the tip
Does a jdm 001/010/011/020/030/040 work on a 5th gen ps4 controller (the ones that should have jdm 050/055 standard)?
Jds040 works but has a connector on the other side of the pcb so the cable ends up being super short.
I already ordered a usb-c board.
This may be my next purchase.
What are the benefits of this custom board?
Plenty. My favourite is to have control of the software. I will be talking about this topic in some upcoming videos.
@Marius Heier well thanks.
I look forward to watching the video.
I also noticed you were working on new joysticks for the setup.. is this something that would come with your board as a set?
Because if that's the case, I'm gonna a go all out and rebuild my stock controller with all of the parts you have for sale. Maybe even rebuild my aftermarket controller as well. It's still a ps4 branded controller, but it's a much more pleasing color. lol
Is that what I think it is? Are you finally converting the PS controller to hall effect analog sticks?
Yeeeeeeez! That's correct
@@MariusHeier1 subscribed. I also own a broken ps4 controller and want it to be converted since I think I broke its mainboard because I was using a heat gun rather than a proper rework station when trying to remove the sticks.
Although I'm already using a Gulikit controller, support can be spotty at best.
@@MariusHeier1 i look forward to the next video. Some youtube algorithm gods recommended you out of nowhere after giving up trying to restore my old controller last year.
@@triadwarfare That's good to hear. That I finally get some love from the RUclips gods ;) I figured many people got a spare broken controller. So might as well repurpose one like that.
You ever finish this? I think I screwed up my board on my ds4 when I tried to change the joysticks
Yes. First demo will be here next week :D
@MariusHeier1 great to hear. I also have 2 boards with damaged ic chips. Want to resurect them.
2:02 is this you make your own joystick?
That's in the next videos
@@MariusHeier1 CAN'T WAIT 🤯🤯
Make the controler joystick availeble
If you make your own 3rd party controller im ordering
Im making a new board for the ps4 controller. Its so expensive to make the plastic stuff. But you never know
How are you going to be able to connect it to a playstation, are you going to put new silicon or reuse parts from a controller
Im not at that part yet. But its probably possible to use something from an old controller.. but maybe not hard parts
@@MariusHeier1 ah interesting okay also i have an idea on making a xbox controller with ps4 components, like making a board that can fit in a xbox controller, that uses chips from a ps4 controller, you think thats possible?
@@zipzopbeesopdro Its probably easier to just remake the entire circuit board. I think i seen the xbox usb descriptor somewhere. The controller im making can be used for anything. As long as it has the right software/code.
@@zipzopbeesopdro You gave me an idea to explain this stuff in a video. Its probably usefull for people to know.
@@MariusHeier1 sounds good no worries
I have an idea shamelessly stolen from the custom keyboard community : Can you make the joysticks hotswap so it's easy and quick to change them to fresh ones whenever they start developping too much stick drift ?
Or. I can make hall sensor sticks. :)
@@MariusHeier1 I thought about it ! But not for the dualshock 4 but the Dualsense since it has a front trim that can be popped off, no need to take it appart to access the front of the MoBo to pull the sticks out (or even the Edge since the modules are meant to be removed). But I mean yeah a USB C, hall effect equipped, with click face button and rear paddles Dualshock 4 seems like a dream. I could revive my drifting controllers or improve my current one
But after a bit the price goes up and up :(
If I had enough know-how and budget I'd love to try myself if I can mod an official DS4 with sockets to host the pins on the joysticks and make hotswap from an old controller instead of making a whole new mainboard.
@@konishiwoi Trow me some link on those hot swappable sockets, like pixs. And i can see if i can trace them down. Exactly. And a lot more powerfull microcontroller to make it faster. 800ma charging. So you get the max amp charge rate trough the usb as well..not only the audio plug thing.
@@MariusHeier1 Here's a video showcasing the process on a keyboard which is basically what I have in mind : ruclips.net/video/RB1Wm8y2Cw8/видео.html
In its description you can find links to the pin sockets used. I took a quick glance and the website has more of al dimensions.
Which brings me to the main issue I fear : I don't know any of the dimensions (PCB thickness, bore of the hole, the pins' size etc) that would be needed to know if 1. it's even doable or not and 2. If yes, which pin sockets to get.
I believe those sockets are called Mill-max sockets
@@konishiwoi that is awesome. Ill try to get some to test.
How does one begin the process of learning this skill set, to be more specific may you suggest a starting point for me. I am currently working on a peripheral and I have gotten as far as making it work with a DS4 pcb but I want to better understand pcb's and the development to take the project a bit further. Learned what I needed through modding forums, found I have an interest but these forums only serve to help with simple mods.
