I read almost all comments and nobody wrote something about the piston. So here we go, what if the pockets on the piston it was in the right place, what would have happened?
Tasos, PLEASE HELP: I had the same issue and my mechanic fixed it exact same way. It runs well, but soon after the fix I started hearing a minor chain noise at cold start up occasionally. I don’t think it is the adjusters. What could it be? What should I ask him to recheck for?
Same result I imagine Tasos- the pistons relief cuts are for clearance in normal operating conditions and not when some knucklehead allows the cams to get out of timing. I imagine that the level of piston to valve interference throughout the combustion cycle is much more than the few millimetres that the valve reliefs give. Any risk that one could bend a Conrod in these circumstances without damaging the crown of the piston?
@@markraumer2336 since there's is no dent on the piston means that the valve barely touch, if the relief cuts was in the correct place we will not talk about that now.
Dude put the hood up into the service position! One of the best quirks Mercedes Benz has! It pains me to see you straining your back! Great work though! Keep it up!
I'm in the market for one of these in Australia so it's encouraging to see that a 200k engine looks so good in the bores. As long as the owners carry out regular servicing there is no reason that these motors can last a long time. It looks like the only Achilles heel is the cam adjusters and wear on the cam lobes and buckets. Adding something like a LiquiMoly anti friction oil sounds like a good option. Great video man. Thank you.
Thank you for posting this! I was always curious what would happen if the camshaft adjuster completely let go and caused the timing to be off what the damage would be. I have also been curious about getting the head machined when replacing headbolts and your explanation was very thorough! Great content as always!!
My question on the head maching as well. As far as bolts. Say if oil and coolant mixed due to broken head bolts and head needed to come off one simply needs to check with micrometer to determine head trueness. Could not find that anywhere for m156
that cylinder bore surface is ultra hard, amazingly minimal wear after 200K kilometers! MBZ went backwards with the M157 and that softer coating in the bores.
Man great videos. I just watched all the ones when you did the rebuild on the m113k engine. Full of knowledge. Respect from Chicago. I'm about to start dropping the engine on my cls55. Thank you
Awesome video. I recently rebuilt a k series. Skip timing bent 8 valves in the head & did main bearings & rod bearings. Today was my first drive. Love the feeling of accomplishment .
I have the same c63 that is continuing to misfire. Catalytic converter was clogged so dealership replaced that along with intake manifold. Removed the secondary cat and installed long tube headers at a shop and also applied a tune. The shop test drove it and it still had a misfire. They took off the tune to test it that way and still misfired. What are your suggestions on what our next step should be.
The check engine light has to be the teach in procedure for the adjusters being needed, done via Xentry. I was just curios exactly how much smoke (antifreeze burning) did the car make, once you let it run? You must have spent time with compressed air removing antifreeze from the head bolt threads, especially since you didn't drop the antifreeze from the block. The red stuff on the bolts was assembly oil, or ATF? which assembly oil did you use?
I recently replaced the conrod bearings in my Caterham (2.0L Duratec) but I reused the bolts, now I'm really scared that the bottom end will go... 200 miles on it with no issuess so far, should I order some new rod bolts for pease of mind.

The valve clearance on the piston main design is to make clearance for valve closing timing 10degree BTDC on all engine... Even on race application, this is the standard used... That's an aftermarket hood. Maybe--maybe--there's something different with the hinges that doesn't allow it to go past where we see it.
