It just hit me. When I read about DP history, all the lineup changes in the 70s... That seems like a legend, like a huge drama, epic story... And yet, I come to realize, that it was only 6 years between In Rock and their last show with Tommy Bolin! Just think about it - imagine In Rock coming out in 2018 and in 2024 Tommy would be leading them into an 8-year slumber.... To me that part of their story seems like a long, loooong period - and yet, for people who lived there, it happened in a span of only 6 years. Some of the line-up's lasted for only a few months..! How time flies...

For anyone that knows anything at all about Tommy Bolin, this was not how he played. He was an innovator, a creator. I love Blackmore's playing, and Ritchie was a better DP guitarist, but Tommy was the Master. If you need to know why he couldn't play this night, do some research. It's not pretty, but it happened. Anyone can copy someone. Bolin wasn’t going to copy anyone. This is a different band than with Blackmore. Move on! Bolin did not copy Joe Walsh in The James Gang either they became a different band. You either dig it or you don’t simple as that. BTW Bolin gave us You Keep On Moving a Hughes- Coverdale song that Blackmore hated and rejected for the previous LP. It would have never seen the light of day with Ritchie.

Tommy Bolin had tons of talent but it became wasted talent because of Drugs. Does that take away from his talent? I don't think so. Go find Teaser by Tommy Bolin. This version of Deep Purple while not to bad is to far away from what I think it should be. Thankfully this version did not last long. It had become something of a ghost of it's past. Everyone went their own ways after last show March 15, 1976. Out of the ashes of DP we got Rainbow the band, Gillan's band Gillan, along with Whitesnake kept them in the game. In 1983 we got the Mark II Purple again! This show is good for historical reasons among other things. I've been a fan since the their first album on Tetragammeton Records called "Shades of Deep Purple" (1968). The band still plays on with the 2013 album "Now What?! The album with the stellar song "Vincent Price" sounds as good as anything done by the band. I'm proud that my favorite band in December 2015 announced that they will be inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2016. About time!!!

Too bad about Tommy Bolen, he pretty much broke the spirit of Deep Purple. And then proceeded to break up the band. Ritchie was just plain hard to work with. Sabotaging his his own team. Then starting Rainbow to directly compete with Deep Purple. Out of all of the guitarist's in Deep Purple. Steve Morse, has brought stability to the band. Great musicianship. Steve Morse is definitely the best man for the job. Much respect for all the members of Deep Purple. My personal favorite is Steve Morse. And I'm sure the other members of Deep Purple would agree with me. Steve's been with the band for over twenty years now. Longer duration of time, than the other two guitar slingers combined.

Tommy is currently sitting in Heaven trying to decide between Grace Kelly and Liz Taylor, who are at present doing a lesbian strip routine to amuse him.

Not a very good representation of Tommy's talent......lots of issues during this period Blackmore and Gillan were sorely missed Having one person scream is bad enough let alone these two Too bad there is not better recordings of this line up

Hi Paul, did you know there is a recording of MK4 live at Long Beach 1976?
It's a much better performance than this.

Bolin was a wonderful guitarist, just not for Deep Purple. All due respect for Morse and Satriani (others), but Blackmore was the perfect guitarist for Purple.

    "A place called Montreaux"
Right Dave and how many of THIS band were there?
Not you, Hughes or Bolin for sure.
So that leaves Lord and Paice?
