I was in a Costa Rican hospital where my parents lived having just found out my mother had terminal cancer. I called my boyfriend of 5 years and told him we had to get married because I didn’t want to get married without my mom. He bought the ring while I was gone. I got it the day he picked us up from the airport. I planned our wedding in a month. We only invited 50 people. My mom passed away 11 months later.

I've attended two bachelorette parties that met with the other party later in the evening. One was my favorite story because they kept it secret from the bride and groom (and most of the party members). We had our own separate parties at other locations, and then moved on to laser tag. They planned the arrivals so we wouldn't pass each other in the entrance and we (the bachelorette party) were told we were playing against a group of Eagle Scouts (so we were expecting taller dudes). Then, in the dark, slowly but surely you'd hear shouts of excitement, as everyone realized we were playing the other partner's party. It was a total blast. 10/10 would recommend some sort of similar set up.
OMG THIS! I so want my future bridal party to do this!

I'm really annoyed at the fanbase for asking about Eugene getting married. Newsflash... not everyone needs to get married to validate their love and feelings for another person. Stop assuming and stop asking.
This :/ I know people are excited and want another dose of vicarious serotonin, but we really shouldn't be weird and act like eugene has to get married just because everyone else is doing it.
Yea I feel like at this point they might be saying it just to get like on their comments :/
yeah just because they all got married dosent mean he has to also
It feels like out of all the guys, most of the audience want a piece of Eugene's life the most. Not sure if it's a "plz tell us about your gay life" thing, (though I feel like sometimes it is and it grosses me out to think someone might fantasize the homosexual aspect or put it on a high, assumably wholesome uwu pedestal) but please chill and respect someone's privacy, y'all
Scrofar agreed it’s not cool to sexualize gays gays (keep in mind we are talking about real living people)
I really appreciate that Zach let the when and how be the surprise, but not the engagement. It’s so important that you have these conversations with your significant other, and know that you both have the same vision of your future.
People should not get engaged out of the blue. There should be several discussions about marriage, if planning on kids, religion, family beliefs, finances, etc.
Couples who don't discuss are not mature enough to be married.
Letting the when and how of a proposal be a surprise is literally how every proposal should be. It's so terrifying that there's a giant misconception that something as important as asking for someone's hand in marriage is a surprise to one partner of a relationship. Engagement itself should never be a surprise to anyone. Marriage and family are important things that must be discussed and consented to by both parties.
A proposal should be a surprise, an engagement shouldn't be!

YES THIS SO MUCH. I'M OFFENDED NO ONE MENTIONS THAT BEFORE. Apparently he also composed the music for their tour. Well, he studied french horn. I suppose his musical abilities have to be great.
My parents have a pretty perfect engagement story. Dad scheduled a date on the anniversary of their first date at the same location. It had gone from a hot dog shop to a coffee shop in the intervening years, so the waitstaff were confused when he asked to reserve a specific table for 6:00 on Friday night. "Sir, this is a coffee shop. Sit where you want." "I'm proposing to my girlfriend. We had our first date at that table on that day." One of the waitresses said "Aww, can you do it earlier? My shift ends at 5:00!" He told her to buy a cup of coffee right before 6:00. On the date, he handed her her anniversary card and after a long paragraph about how much he loved her there was a sticky note that said "Wait. Special preparation required." He got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and said "Ok, take off the sticky note." "Will you marry me?" was written underneath.
So cool!!!!!!!

Professional wedding photographer here: you don't HAVE to take engagement photos, but it's super helpful to learn how you and the photographer vibe together before the stress of the wedding day (plus extra photos of you two together!). I usually recommend that your wedding photographer be the person that takes your engagement photos just so you have that time to meet each other and work together beforehand.
I also LOVE that you talked about smaller weddings--I am so here for mini weddings and I hope they stay around even beyond just corona times!
We weren’t going to do engagement photos when I was getting married. And our photographer explained it’s a good way for them to get to know us, our likes, style when shooting, and also to get a chance to photograph/edit us before the big day. And I was like MAKES PERFECT SENSE SOLD!!!

I love seeing Zach and Maggie this happy, a small kernel of joy in this pandemic that is providing a lot of light to me 💕
The Becky story reminded me of the time that the doctor's office called me to congratulate me on my pregnancy and asked if I'd like to come in for an appointment to discuss my options.
I was most definitely NOT the correct Brittany, and the receptionist was correctly horrified at her mistake.
Really glad Zach and Ned did not ask for Maggie’s parents’ or Ariel's parents' permission! Also enjoyed hearing that the guy would not have minded their wives keeping their maiden names. We stan some good feminist men!
I’m sorry, I’m just curious. Why is it a bad thing to ask for the parents blessing? I’m not trying to be rude but I always thought of it as a cute thing. Idk please educate me on your point of view? I want to hear it🙂
@@shezs.2322 Asking for their blessing is fine in my opinion. But asking for 'permission' makes it sound like the person is a piece of property that belongs to them to give away? Very traditional view.
@@shezs.2322 I personally agree with the way that Zach explained it. A woman can make her own decisions. Some people say that it shows respect, but to me it seems more disrespectful to the woman because it makes it seem like you value the parents' (and especially the dad's) opinion of you over the woman herself. It kind of minimizes her agency as an individual and in the relationship. A lot of times it's also just a formality. Like if the parent says "no" would that stop the guy from proposing? Of course, if you are close to your parents you want them to love your significant other and approve of the relationship, but by the time you get to engagement, you probably already know how the parents feel. Everyone is different, and if it's something that's important to you, that's okay! It's just refreshing for me to hear them not do something that's traditional for the sake of tradition.
Anna Flanders agree!
I actually wouldn't of mind if my husband would've asked my dad for my hand I'm very traditional though

ME THO

"we could've been anywhere in the world" got me bAWLING
Here's the thing about getting married in this day and age... you don't HAVE to do anything. Some of the traditions around marriage are so dated and heterosexually centered, it just doesn't fit all couples anymore. Also, the wedding industry is crazy town banana pants and in some cases it just isn't financially responsible to spend exorbitant amounts of money on one party. We were engaged for 2 years, got married at an express window at our county building with our 2 year old in our arms. Then a few months later we had a huge ceremony and party. It was perfect for us.
I'm not even in a relationship but I know when the day comes I want a simple ceremony and then just a big backyard party with fun food and dancing and just easy going and fun. People get so stressed out and worried over family expectations and I've had friends who didn't even enjoy their wedding day because of the stress and I wouldn't want to start a marriage that way. I am glad more and more people are going away from the traditional wedding concepts
I agree that you don't have to do the tradition when you are getting married. If you and your partner don't want a traditional wedding that's ok. If you and your partner don't want to go through the tradional way of proposing, that's ok as well. However, i do belive that if people want to go the tradional way, that is also aceptable. We need to remeber that those "traditions around marriage that are so dated and heterosexually centered" are still important for a group of people and, we need to respect that. More than that, there are couples that are not heterosexual but still decide to have a more "tradional" proposing and wedding ceremony because they want to. I think we need to stop this view of this tradition as something we have to do and more of choice for everyone.
@@Mariajose-qt5ey I agree with everything you said, but nobody here said that you can't have a traditional wedding, just that you dont need to have one if you don't want to.

Eugene's sister and I have very similar engagement stories. We got in a bit of a shouting match while pumping fuel. I didn't actually know he was serious until a day or two later when my dad called to congratulate me. I picked out my own engagement ring. It was $20 and we got married in a parking lot with two witnesses and an online minister. No photos. Do what is true to your story ❤
Congratulations.
Congrats! ❤ You do you! We had to make up a romantic proposal story involving our cat. It was "Hypothetically, if we got married, let's not do this." "How about make it for real?" "Wait...are you serious?" "Yeah. Let's get married." It took 3 months choosing my ring, and my fiance then sweated bullets asking for my dad's blessing while dad cut through his steak with a sharp knife.

I told my fiancé/future husband that he could ask for a blessing from my parents but not permission because I'm my own person, not property. Happy for Maggie and Zach, good luck with your wedding plans.
Maggie’s excitement in “You Can Sit with Us” version literally brought me to tears! Side Note: In Alabama, we’d refer to it as “asking for her dad’s blessing.” Permission does sound icky.
23:52 Eugene was on the money. When my husband proposed to me, prior, he was a complete asshole that day. We were on our way to the airport (at the time I was a college student training to become a professional pilot, so we were going to my local airport to take graduation pics). Before we left my apartment, my mother called me, and he kept rushing me off the phone and also refused to stop and get food before we went to the airport. Okay, when Ned switched to talking about BabySteps, I realized it's so they can both monetize the pregnancy _and_ get free stuff to test. This is so Yale.
Ned's proposal story is just sad now... 😕😕😕
Thumbnail conspiracy theory : Did Maggie leave out the Spiderman part of the proposal that Zach's gonna tell us today? Would be pretty on character for Zach. And maybe she wants to erase that part from her memory.
Maggie was emotional so probably it's likely that she didn't even noticed. Idk that's just a theory, a youtube comment theory! Thanks for reading
26:24 this was always my dads wisdom and im glad to hear it from others, it doesnt matter when or how it matter more about the people and their love, this carries on not just for the engagement but the wedding as well so many ppl focus on the wedding which is just one day, but never put that kind of effort into their marriage. Hearing this just makes me happy that others know this wisdom too 💕
im happy that ned is not gonna plan zach's bachelor party now.
My husband purposed to me on the pier where we had our first kiss, it was a surprise but not a surprise, I had been hinting for a while. When he purposed he didn't exactly ask the question he just said he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and he said so what's your answer, and I said you didn't ask the question 😂 it was so perfectly us, we got married at a court house because a hurricane ruined our wedding plans and destroyed our venue. I am so glad we did though because those two moments we're just for us, no family or friends, it made it really special.
